Jannik Sinner tested positive twice for banned substance but investigation finds no fault

He's probably juicing himself. But we will never know.
Was gonna say... Alcaraz who held the longest time spent on court at a tournament ever until Sadlad at AO this year, narrowly edging out Anderstork from Wimbers 2018, and the latter was buffed by hours of servebotting in fifth sets. As you say, we'll never know, but I'd say at the very least he's more sus than Sinner.

Can he refuse?
Djokovic did so before his Davis cup match against Norrie last November.

He gave blood samples after the match though, roughly 4 hours after the initial request. I could not find whether urine samples were provided or not.

Troicki was there.

I don't know if any thread was created in November. Last week a cricketer from Sri Lanka got banned for doping and that old news popped up on a page.

Actually a guy like Sinner is a lot more likely to be doping. And turns out he is.

Was it the "clear and the blue" that his massage therapist applied?

For those outside the US or too young to remember .... watch out for what the trainer is putting on you!

Did Bonds admit to using The Clear?

During grand jury testimony on December 4, 2003, Bonds said that he used a clear substance and a cream that he received from his personal strength trainer, Greg Anderson, who told him they were the nutritional supplement flaxseed oil and a rubbing balm for arthritis.

the cream and the clear from A-Rod's cousin! Classic

Very low levels of clostebol found. It is supposed to build muscle mass but he has no muscle mass.
His story could be true. But his reputation may be forever tarnished as a possible cheater.
Bad luck for the young Sinner.

What reputation ? Do you think he is a great player in the making? Don't be fooled by the media hyping.

Alcaraz is the only great player in this generation, the next great player is probably yet to turn pro. Sinner is probably a 1 slam wonder or maybe 2 slam type player benefitting from a true vacuum which exists, as @tennis_pro proved in his recent threads, Sinner is a glorified Berdych and nothing more.

If his reputation is tarnished then so be it....

By over the counter healing cream containing coletebol and open wounds according to the story.
For anyone who knows anything about steroid creams, they always provide a warning of not having any on your skin and letting there be time for the skin to absorb the substance before coming into contact with others as there has been incidences that show that cross contamination does occur if the substance is still on the persons body/hands.

This can literally lead to instances of a husband causing virilization/masculinity in their wife or effecting their children in the case of testosterone cream for example.

It's a suspicious but believable story.

Ooooohhhhh

Me having literally just tried to quit GPPD

sad-sorry.gif

Spicy stuff. Doubt this will be the end of this story at all. Like others have said I don’t understand how tf a massage could cause the ingestion of a banned substance… unless certain things happened along the way :sneaky: maybe certain oils or something though idk

The main thing here is he’s been cleared. That is enough for me and he did receive small punishment at Indian wells. I feel I want to give him the benefit of the doubt here.
Sharapova was banned for years for less. Ymer was banned because he simply missed the test. But this dude gets away despite being positive twice lol. People just making excuses for this dopper.

Steroid cream DUH

You don't understand or you don't know

Clostebol builds muscle mass.

This is very unfortunate, but reports suggest he is innocent.

Per ChatGPT:

Clostebol, as an anabolic steroid, offers several benefits that make it attractive to athletes looking to enhance their performance illegally. However, it's important to note that the use of such substances in sports is prohibited due to the unfair advantage they provide and the potential health risks. Here are some of the perceived benefits of clostebol in doping:
  1. Increased Muscle Mass: Clostebol promotes protein synthesis, leading to increased muscle mass and strength. This can be beneficial in sports where power and muscle size are crucial.
  2. Enhanced Recovery: Athletes using clostebol may experience faster recovery times after intense training or injury. The steroid's anabolic properties help in repairing muscle tissues more quickly, allowing for more frequent and intense training sessions.
  3. Reduced Fatigue: By improving muscle recovery and reducing muscle damage, clostebol can help athletes train harder and for longer periods without experiencing as much fatigue.
  4. Improved Endurance: Although primarily an anabolic steroid, clostebol can have some effects on endurance by increasing red blood cell production. More red blood cells mean better oxygen delivery to muscles, which can improve stamina.
  5. Lean Muscle Preservation: Clostebol can help athletes maintain lean muscle mass while cutting weight, which is particularly useful in sports with weight classes.
  6. Minimal Androgenic Effects: Compared to other anabolic steroids, clostebol has relatively mild androgenic effects, which means it carries a lower risk of side effects like hair loss, acne, and masculinization in women.
Despite these benefits, the use of clostebol in sports is illegal, and athletes caught using it face severe penalties, including suspensions and bans.

Why do you think he has been cleared ? Think about it.

If the world number 1 who is a young player and has lot of sponsorships riding on him (Nike) is labeled a cheat then it affects Tennis and many people, maybe thats why he has been cleared ???

Clostebol is a performance enhancing drug.... let there be no doubt about it...... It is an anabolic steroid.

Which is why they wen't with it.

I'm not convinced myself. Two positive tests 8 days apart and they hid this for almost 6 months and only revealed it now because of the point deduction and prize money being taken away go into effect and there would be no way to hide it then. Also as it's been pointed out that maybe this is why he skipped the Olympics because they have more strict drug testing and speaking of the testing, what testing happened at IW that caused this? Was it a urine test? Blood test? Can this so called hand cream be absorbed into the body in such a way it can be detected in those tests?

I have many questions.

It doesn’t look good. I didn’t expect this at all but the details are still a bit sketchy. I’m willing to still give him the benefit of doubt that this isn’t serious unless we got something more concrete. He had his prize money and points stripped from Indian wells though so not great.

Dude they got him red handed

They allowed him to use the cockamamie excuse, but they got him

They would not sanction a player of this caliber without being beyond sure about it

What reputation ? Do you think he is a great player in the making? Don't be fooled by the media hyping.

Reputation in general. Every ATP player has a reputation.
Even if Sinner is innocent, many will view him as a cheater. That is simply how the public perception works.
But will have to see how this plays out. Maybe it will be forgotten.

True I guess maybe the punishment could have been worse. It does look like he’s got off lightly here considering 2 positive tests and also he been stripped points and money at Indian wells. I agree it doesn’t look good from sinner at all and I was surprised.

True. Therefore, why are they letting him off lightly then? As sharapova was a tennis star of the game but didn’t get off lightly. Is it because where she from or not? It just all very mysterious to me.

the investigation states he was not at fault. very low levels caused by a masseuse. he should not be stripped of anything. That is ridiculous.

They should ban him for 2-5 years but they don't wanna do that. If this was some lower ranked young player then I bet their head would have rolled by the guillotine .... In Sinner's case they've have cooked up some excuse to make it look like a mistake ? WTF, lol

Here's my theory: the biggest stars are safe, while they're winning the biggest events. Tennis doesn't want our trophies tarnished.

It's when you have a big name and you're no longer a threat to win big titles that you're in trouble. Sharapova, Halep, Verdasco.

For them to hit the #1 player like this and not just let him say he slipped in the bath...had to have been very deliberate. He made someone mad

The problem with the 8 days apart is what the half life is of the compound, and what the levels of the compound were found in the body. If they were the same levels 8 days apart, HIGHLY suspicious. If it was lowered to a negligible degree, then that would make sense.

Also depends on the levels of the compound found in the body. How much of it was shown in the samples compared to someone using it for performance enhancing purposes?

I am by no means defending this as I do find it more likely he just got caught, but also trying to provide some additional context for people to think about when the general public know nothing about PEDs and look at whatever generalized statements chatGPT says. (You can put in any steroid and it'll almost always give a similar response to the one that was provided above.)

Also, is there a paper trail for this masseuse actually purchasing this supposed cream?

Are we buying this excuse? Seems like a lot of coincidences if it’s true but I don’t know anything about this. Curious if there are any people who know a lot about anti doping.

It's total BS

Hence this even going public at all

It's suspicious also because in the past the "independent" tribunals were extremely strict and it's not really conceivable to me that they could have proven without doubt that Sinner ingested the substance in this way. It's a nice excuse but not provable without a time machine.

So why did they believe Sinner's story immediately but Simona needed to serve a lengthy ban first which THEN needed to be overturned? For those who don't know or don't remember:

The Court agreed with Halep’s contention that her positive test was likely caused by contamination of a supplement she had been using.

How is that ANY less plausible than Sinner's story? If anything it's LESS convoluted.

what is the typical punishment? a a one year ban?
a one year ban would have been devastating to his career. very difficult to be out that long and come back to #1 level.

Did not even consider that until now. That's a huge red flag now this story has come out and he DID get docked the points and prize money so y'know, It feels like he was guilty but they gave him the benefit of the doubt because his excuse made sense *cough* and he's a money-making draw to the sport *cough*
yes deemed too big to fail. same thing w Jordan and the gambling.
