Jannik Sinner to win AO 2024

G.O.A.T.
People have been picking this young fellow to win majors almost since he hit the Tour, but his time may finally come Down Under in 2024.

Jannik Sinner - floats like a butterfly, steals like a fox.

To be clear, I think Jannik will need someone else to take out Nole for him.

I don’t know man. I would’ve agreed if he won the title today but he’s gonna undergo some tough losses before he gets a finger on a major. He’s not mentally strong enough

Why do people put so much stock in the ATP Finals? Stef has won the Finals, Zed has won the Finals, even Dimi has won the finals...how many Slams do they have between the 3 of them? They're still candidates for majors, but their Finals wins are well in the rearview mirror.

It helps rather than hurts Jannik to lose this title if you ask me. He doesn't yet have a big target on his back.

Djokovic will win ao 2024. Only 8 weeks to go. Nobody on tour is close to him unless Nadal returns like lazarus rising and even then history shows he isnt in djokovics league down under.
Djokovic could well do the golden slam next year. If he does at 37, thats mythical status for a millenium.
Sinner is too one dimensional and mwntally weak to win a slam.

Blah blah blah blah. Djokovic, like his fans, lacks imagination.

Thing is he isn’t displaying the right mentality to win a major. If he can’t beat Djokovic in his home country with the most favorable of conditions for him I don’t see him getting over the line in a major. The breakthrough won’t happen until 2025

Sinner is displaying exactly the right mentality. He isn't sweating the small stuff, and in the grand scheme of things, a single ATP Final title for him is small stuff. He hasn't even reached a major final yet!

He gets knocked down, but he keeps popping up again. Look how he limps through matches and then takes an M1000. Reminds me of some other young player back in the day. A fellow who also happens to like the conditions Down Under.

Court speed will play a role, as it did in Torino, so Sinner would be smart to adjust accordingly.

Did you watch the match today?

It may still happen in 2024, just not at the AO...i think it's possible at the Wimbledon next year! We'll see! In any event i'll fancy his chances over Alcaraz' anyway if Novak cannot do it (and i truly believe, that Novak's chance at the Wimbledon these days are 50/50, so a toss up...compared to like 90% before this season!...he has shown his fragility on grass courts nad several other players will be able to exploit them further next year and that includes Sinner probably more than others!) but at the AO i have to agree, can't see anyone stopping Novak there next year!...

Yes. Why are you looking at one match and not Sinner's whole year?
He lost the match that mattered the most. No excuses. The breakthrough won’t happen until 2025. He isn’t mentally mature enough to get over the line in a major in 2024. If he had won today I would believe in his chances of a major title in 2024. But I believe he will fall short.

Jannik wins the match today (his second win over Nole in two matches) he gets himself a single YEC and a huge target on his back.

He only needed to prove that he CAN beat Novak. He wasn't able to do it at Wimbledon this year or last year, but now he has done it once.

He can do it even at this point yes, just not in the Novak's territory in a BO5 just yet...it's way too soon for that...but at the Wimbeldon next year - it's possible and conditions there favour Sinner as well more than any other major!...

Truthfully, Jannik doesn't love the heat, which is why I don't think he will be beating Novak in Melbourne. I think someone else will take out Novak.

I suspect Sinner will love Paris and SW19 the best over the course of his career.

I'm sorry to tell you it's too late for Jannik to win AO23. It already happened 10 months ago and Novak won it. The result may be the same in 2 months bearing in mind the GOATness of the GOAT.

I don’t see him beating Djokovic in a best of 5 match. Certainly not in Melbourne barring a sudden and massive form drop off from Gioco.

Sinner showed a great level this week and should use the momentum to achieve some realistic goals, like finally knocking his AO nemesis Tsitsipas over.

Or it may not be the same.

I don't see him beating Djokovic either. Doesn't mean he can't win the title.

My question to Jannik Sinner, if I were a tennis journalist -- "You just lost your first YEC final to Novak Djokovic...

but-did.gif
"

He’s lost 3 of his first 4 big finals. Is that a good sign of a budding ATG to be?

I never said he would be an ATG. I'm not asking him to be an ATG. If he becomes an ATG, I will be pleased as punch.

I am saying he can win a Slam if he keeps up this great work. And I think he's good enough to do it in 10 weeks, if he gets a favorable draw.

The guy gives you a constructive, polite answer with arguments and that's your response? So basically, you just want this thread to be an echo chamber?

messiahrobins says, "Novak will win ao 2024." As if it were written in stone. It is no more constructive than my original title.

IF Novak wins the AO 2024, people will rightly come here to jest that I gave Sinner too much credit. On this side of 2024, however, I see Jannik as having a very decent shot. I don't want an echo chamber, but nothing is a guarantee.

Sinner has the technical tools to challenge Nole, but as far as mentality goes he still needs to mature. His level today was nothing like their first match in this tournament. Plus he needs to fix his injuries to have a consistent career in the future.

Keep the faith. I still think 2024 is the year. Djokovic can’t win everything! The next two best players are Alcaraz and Medvedev, and Sinner is right up there with ‘em. Then there is a bit of a gap between them and the rest (of Top 10). So, it is plausible to think he can break through this next year.

Exactly. It would be helpful for Jannik if Nadal and Zverev are on Novak's side.

Winning against Novak in a slam is completely different animal. I can't see anyone other than the Australian government being able to do it.

Top4 are very competitive and solid.
I will be happy with Nole getting slam #25.

Did I miss something? Didn't Carlitos do it this year? I repeat that I don't think Jannik will be able to pull if off in Melbourne in 2024.

Yup I meant the AO , Carlos did it but it was a huge mountain to climb which is my point. AO is Djokovic's best tournament.

It is a huge mountain to climb, I am not taking the 10-time champ lightly. That's why I think if someone were to get the job done, they still likely wouldn't grab the title at the end of the tournament.

Novak is no joke, but now that Carlitos has climbed it, it's all downhill ;)

Tbh, I don’t honk it will be the AO. Djokovic is the heavy favourite there, not to mention it’s his pet slam, however I’m more inclined to believe it can happen at either Wimby or USO.

You and others have made a very good point about it being his pet Slam.

This! Cahill needs to work on his physical issues lot more as once he feels confident in his body that will help with the mental side of things. Remember Djoko used to retire and was laughed at until 2010 or so…he figured it out, Sinner will too. I hope he gets a major next year.

Now this is a constructive argument.
