Rochus owns their head-to-head (1-0), and Delpo's never before gotten past round two at wimby, so it will take some of that mental strength for which Juan's known to get him thru to round three!

It's the third match scheduled on Court No. 2 Wednesday.

How do you see this one?

Don't mean to be offensive Love_Game, I know you love your tennis more than anyone, but does this match really merit such commercial value simply because Rochus leads their head to head?

There shouldn't be an issue one way or another for Del Potro, he may lose a set but is this really going to generate discussion? lol

No offense taken, TM! ... It's really more about whether Delpo attains another goal in his career by making it thru to Round 3 at the grass grand slam ...

I guess it depends on whether youre a Delpo fan. If you are and saw the finish of his match vs. Cipolla (the guy who beat roddick @ Madrid) today, you will have seen something scarey occur (these damn unsafe grass courts) ... namely ...

Delpo's feet slid straight out from under him, causing him to hit the deck with his hands/wrists breaking his fall, especially the right hand, arm, wrist! ... and after he got up and was toweling off, he was wincing and massaging that right wrist ... concerning for Delpo fans!

"owns" seems like a weird choice of words to reflect only one match.

I would expect DelPo to win this, but stranger things have happened.

youre right. it is weird. I should have put it in quotes, but I was too lazy! :p

That match was the first Delpo had played since his 4th round exit from the AO 2010 ... after his wrist surgery in ?April? ?May? ... Bangkok after the USO ... it was HC which of course is Juan's favorite surface ... I wonder how much Rochus likes grass b/c he did very well at Newport last year, where he lost only to Mardy Fish in the final in three ... in one interview, he mentioned that his low center of gravity is an asset he takes advantage of on grass! :)

edit: stats for the Bangkok match .....

Delpo will obliterate Rochus. Never underestimate the mental fortitude of the giant of Tandil.

This might be his worst surface, but it will still take a mighty big effort to stop the big man..

Saw it on the replay and saw him grin on the fall, but didn't see the aftermath.

And as others have said, Ollie Rochus is tricky on grass.

Hope everything is okay.

due to being stature-challenged, rochus is a bit of an expert on how to make a match uncomfortable for a big man. His tactics w/b a better version of Cipolla's.

Delpo took Cipolla in straights, so I'll assume Rochus, facing a much stronger and more accurate Delpo than he did in Bangkok, might take a set ........ I'll go with Delpo in four!

He did give a grin before he got up, because he had reflexively soccer kicked the ball he was originally planning to return with his racket, and the crowd was laughing ... but after he got up and was at the back of the court with the towel, he was testing out the wrist and looking rueful ... poor guy ... I don't think I've ever seen so many tennis professionals hitting the deck due to their feet slipping out from under them on the slick (one announcer even called it "greasy") grass ... is it always like it has been this week?

Juan did have a very nice smile after he won, asked one of the ball kids to take his wrist bands to someone particular in the crowd ... like you I'm sincerely hoping his sister in heaven is truly watching out for him!

I don't remember it having been this crazy in awhile. Rafa slipped three or four times at Queens, Radek went down, Ferru ...

And I don't think all the rain's helping, either. :-?

Any match featuring Delpo that has cameras on court has potential to generate discussion among us Delpo fans. Especially when jjerman is around.

Delpo on grass is always tricky. There is a good chance he can lose almost any match. Will be pulling for him though.

Happened to see an interview with the still-sexy, ever articulate Jimmie Connors on Sky News. His pick for the winner this year is "someone outside the big four," otherwise known as "Del Potro"

I'd love it if Mr. USO were right in that, but I'm not looking any further than the quarters at the moment! :p

He is still very dapper, yes? My mom and I have discussed that about Borg as well. In some detail.

One match at a time. :)

^^I can't believe some people think he wouldn't be a tough match for Rafa on any surface considering the match-up problem. Besides,Rafa has to get through Sweeting and then either Muller or Raonic first before anyone can even think about a meeting with Delpo.

^ (What matchup problem? Rafa beat him on clay 6-4 6-4 this year [and has always led their head2head], a surface that Del Potro is far better on than grass. Del Potro isn't even top 30 on grass. Rafa is the best mover on grass, Del Potro is not a good mover on grass. Rafa would smoke him 6-3 6-4 6-3 on grass. The only time Del Potro looked a threat to Rafa was in 2009 when Rafa was playing the US summer with a 15mm stomach tear)

Rafa did not play Delpo on clay this year. That 6-4 6-4 win was in the semi of IW where Rafa was getting killed until Delpo lost his first serve. He is a terror for Rafa because of their match-up issue, and he has the ability to beat Rafa anywhere and on any surface because of it,but like I said before,Rafa needs to get through sweeting than either Muller or Raonic before anyone can even think about a meeting with Delpo.

^^Huh? Rafa is going to drop sets at Wimbledon you can be sure of that. He has a b*tch of a draw, and he will have to be on his game to get through it,and I am not so sure he can with his form being so inconsistent this year.

(LOL he's got Berdych and Murray, he's won 6 straight sets over Murray at Wimbledon and slaughtered Berdych in last year's final. It's a dream draw if ever I've seen one)

(Yep, Rafa's been inconsistent this year, making 7 straight finals lol. And at Wimbledon last year, Rafa didn't even play well in the Final, because Berdych never threatened him, Rafa only needed his b-game)

^^Wrong. He has to battle either 2 big server's in the R3,one of which has beaten him at Wimbledon before, and then Delpo who can ballbash his way to victory against Rafa anywhere. Rafa will most certainly drop sets on this faster surface against those guys, and he will be fortunate to make it through them to even get to the second week.

I also don't understand why you think both Berdych and Murray can't trouble Rafa here, especially with the way Rafa has been playing lately. He was broken twice by Russell for crying out loud, one of those breaks coming off of a double fault yet you think he will just steamroll through all of these superior servers? What is your reasoning for this?

(Del Potro can ball-bash his way to victory against Rafa anywhere?   Wow, I can't believe you think Rafa is supposed to be playing his best in the 1st set of Round One. But on top of that, Rafa is known for being a slow starter, like all those unforced errors in the 1st set of RG Final vs Federer for example. And I'll give you $1000 if Rafa loses to Murray or Berdych, very lopsided and easily the best draw Rafa could have hoped for at Wimbledon. Raonic? I'll give you $5000 if he beats Rafa  )

^^Is that a promise? Lol. Seriously though he has to play well against those guys and being that Rafa is always a slow starter he is vulnerable in the first week at slams. He can't come out with a sh*tty serve getting broken all the time,or make pathetic mug errors like he does routinely anymore, and expect to beat those guys. It's just not gonna happen.

(Yes, it's a paypal promise. He can get off to 2-5 start vs Federer, and frankly he doesn't need to win the 1st set in any match, because he will outlast anyone in best of 5. But it truly does put the match 'in the bag' if he wins the 1st set, because Rafa has only ever lost ONE match in slams after winning the 1st set - lost to Ferrer at US Open many years ago. If he doesn't pull a muscle, nobody has a chance)

Delpo has a good chance if he's healthy (even with Wimby playing slow). If he plays well, DP can steamroll anyone just as he did to Nadal at the USO.

Nadal has very little chance against Nole in a final if that transpires. Nole is the better player right now.

Djok won't ever beat Rafa at a slam. He's psychological garbage)

If he can drop 2 sets to a big server on clay, it's even more likely that he'll drop sets against big servers on grass. Logic is your friend.

I wish they'd hurry. Even as fast as Ollie tends to play they'll never make three sets, will they?

Personally, I doubt it. Very interesting the contrasting games, each playing his well.

Another love game for Delpo 3 all

As one of the announcers just said, "There w/b no lines left at the end of this match" Del has been hitting them regularly, "chalk flew up"

Rochus holds for 4-3. However, Del Potro has not dropped a point on serve yet. Not even close really, Rochus has returned barely any of Delpo's serves.

Beryl

Delpo holds after Rochus had two break points.

Delpo is going for too much on his serve. But he needs to because he is losing the rallies.

Delpo has been winning the points in the game, but has been missing the finishing shots. Now Deuce.
