Jo Konta a threat at Roland Garros

She says so herself.

Konta has never won a match at RG and is well capable of losing to players outside the top 100 on clay. She faces the crazy Putintseva in round 1 whose meltdowns are always a laugh.

Konta seems confident but given her past record, you could say she's deluded. Depends which way you look at it.

Can Konta win Roland Garros?

Well, she's already made 2 Slam semi-finals on the other 2 surfaces so maybe she's due to go deep in the 3rd one?

We know she's got the game when she really puts her mind to it and focusses but, on the other hand, she has yet to win a match at Roland Garros after 3 previous appearances.

Can she be a threat at Roland Garros? I guess she could. Will she be a threat at Roland Garros? Probably not.

Nevertheless, each has made at least 1 Slam semi-final (which is more than can be said for some current top #10 players).

Yes.There are 3 Top 10 ranked players who havent reached semis at Slam - Zverev,Goffin and Isner.Edmund could have better career than Goffin and Isner. But in Zverev case - I dont think so.Zverev is more accomplished than Edmund while being 2 years younger than him.

I meant that she has potential because her game has already got her to 2 semi-finals on 2 different surfaces so I believe she can do it. But, on the other hand, given her woeful record at RG I didn't expect her to do so.

But if u belive she can do it you cant say u dont expect it. That talk clashes, smile

No, believing someone has the capability does not necessarily mean you believe they WILL do it. Different things. I believe Konta CAN do it but I also believe that she needs to gain more experience winning matches on clay before she WILL do it.

Maybe if she hadn't said she was a threat she wouldn't have to blame the media now for the pressure she was (is) put througho_O

I understand her perspective, and I actually think she has a point, but she was the one who put herself in this situation. She shouldn't take it against the press when they're just doing their job, it looks terrible from her part

I think it is fantastic, she is the worst at doing these politically correct, tedious interviews where everybody & everything is great & it is great to finally see her passion rather than being a robot. Her style of play is too mechanical & would benefit from speeding up.

Yeah, her press conferences are pretty much the same as her game: boring and mechanical. But I don't know, I don't think this is the way to make things more interesting. There are many people out there who already perceive her as a whiny person, it may be a misconception or there may be something real behind it, but whatever it may be, it's not a good look.

Konta is the female Raonic in terms of her approach to the game.

Everything is over analysed and robotic. They're both Engineers, not artists. Their games reflect their personality.

So this outburst is very out of character for her normal PR, robotic press conferences.

there's been this rather inexplicable infatuation with Konta by the American television tennis media for a while now. apart from the usual British fetishism we get to nauseating quantities here, I've never understood why she's given the time of day.

I thought it was just the British media hyping her up. Not sure why the American Media want to!

Does she have any fans in the states? Non media People here are indifferent to her, no one cares if she wins or loses.

the American sporting press does this weird thing with British athletes, almost as if the Revolution never happened. I've never fully made sense of it.
