Federer...though if Tsonga gets through...no doubt first French Finalist since 1988 Henri Leconte.

I thinkJo has a new resolve. He's got a coach, and is more focused. He almost beat Nadal in Monte Carlo. I'm going with JoWillie in 4.

I don't think Tsonga's beating Ferrer if he gets through Federer.

In regards to this match, I think Tsonga is probably the favourite based on form, but I still have so much trouble picking Fed to lose to anyone except Nadal, Djokovic or Murray, and that includes the Delpos Tsonga's and Berdych's of the world.

I'm still thinking Fed could get this done in 4 tight sets.

The QF streak lives on. Un-freaking-believable. I think its more impressice than 17 slams, seriously.

For this match though, I'm gonna go with Joe in 4. Fed's BH was really bad in the Simon match and Tsonga looks wicked. I bet on the winner of this match to make the final however.

Tsonga has looked good, but he has been playing a bunch of scrubs.

Bedene, Chardy, Neimenen, Troicki. Come on.

It'll be a tough match, but the more I think about it the less I see Tsonga winning. He has beaten Fed before, but by blasting him off the court at Wimbledon or by Fed ultra-choking.

What scrubs has Fed been playing?

I've got a hard time calling this. One would favour Fed on clay. But Tsonga has been playing pretty good so far, it's in Paris and he's not afraid.

Close to 50-50, Fed with a slight edge. Whoever wins has a great chance of getting to the final.

Do I really need to explain why Troicki or a guy with a 60 mph 2nd serve are bigger scrubs than Simon and Benneteau?

I guess Feds cake with frosting draw by all the experts opinions as well as his first 2 matches against Qualies means zippo.

Simon came off 2 5 setters, and took Fed to 5. Fed hadn't dropped a set.

It's patently false that Fed had a harder draw.

I hope Fed in 4 or less.

It will probably be a shot-making match for the biggest part. Whoever is the sharpest player of the day will win this one I guess.

If Tsonga wins, I hope he wins the tournament :)

If Roger has this much trouble against Simon, how is he going to beat Tsonga ?

Tsonga is probably going to make a lot more errors, especially at big moments.
No way Tsonga serves as well he did at the AO. 20 aces and 1 DF is an anomaly IMO. Clay will be a lot slower and I think that will help Roger.
This struggle against Simon only happened because of that fall which changed everything. Once the fourth set began Roger clearly got back in control and won the last two sets rather easily.

As long as Roger keeps his UEs relatively low and serves well, he will win the match.

Fed would've gotten through Tsonga's draw without losing a set.

Fed is 4-0 in sets against Troicki. 26-1 in sets against niemenen.

He has lost matches to Benneteau and Simon, who are actually seeded.

Fed's 3rd and 4th round matches were not easy matchups by any stretch. The only reason people call his draw easy is because he didn't draw Nadal and opened with 2 qualifiers.

Yes. Fed owns Ferrer, who has beat both Novak and Nadal.

Here is a list of guys who trouble Federer, not including the top 4.

Berdych
Tsonga
Del Potro
Simon
Benneteau

Del Potro didn't play. Out of the other 4, he's having to play 3 in a row. Easy draw my ***.

THIS. Fed got the toughest quarter for sure. Just because Djoker and RN are set to probably meet in the SF does not make their quarters difficult. A player has to win 7 matches to win the title. One tough match doesn't a tough draw make. The SF and F are supposed to be difficult.

The top seed in Fed's half is Ferrer, who Fed owns... has never lost to.

You guys act like there was some sort of voodoo magic or immeasurable luck that resulted in Federer getting the draw he did.

From your logic, there was a 50% chance of him getting a cake draw. Someone had to draw Nadal. He didn't.

I think a lot of it stems from that fact that most people believed that the ATP would (or should) rig a Nadal-Joker final.

Yeah he gets the easy semi for once, big deal. Meanwhile for four years, it was nothing but Djokovic-Federer semis while Nadal drew the choking version of Murray. And Federer got the harder semi draw in USO12 and AO13 too when Nadal was gone.

But ignoring all that, it's been a rather regular to tough draw up to the quarters for Federer. Tough match-ups for him, all guys who have beaten him and taken him to 5 in slams. But the first couple guys were tired, so that evens it out. And who cares about the first two rounds, there are no seeds anyway.

Tsonga definitely has a shot. He has the weapons, the crowd, he's beat Fed at a major, he almost beat Djokovic last year, and Fed just isn't as consistent within a match as before.

That said, I wouldn't write off Fed. He got over Simon and may be more relaxed, and I actually think Fed far prefers the shotmaker vs. shotmaker matchup that Tsonga provides. Seriously, Tsonga may very well serve well enough and hit enough big shots and volleys to win (along with a few extended rallies) and force enough Fed errors, but Fed knows that unlike Djokovic and Nadal, Tsonga isn't going to wear him down. It's a different mentality. Fed can somewhat relax knowing he can miss a bit more, because Tsonga himself will miss more than someone like Nadal.

Tsonga - don't think too hard. Serve big, hit inside out to Fed's backhand like everyone else (attack the backhand), throw in your drop shots and net play smartly, don't press. Don't get cute. Live by the sword, die by the sword. Play smartly aggressive. If it doesn't work out, fine.

This is a very tough call for a match I'm very looking forward to seeing, but I'm going with Federer in 5.

I think Roger would far prefer to play Jo than Simon because the latter's game makes Roger feel very uncomfortable. At least with Jo being the shot maker that he is, Roger can expect a few free points from errors. Against Simon, Roger had to make everything because Gilles simply wasn't missing. The sets Federer won were won rather comfortably, too.

Still, I don't want to underestimate Tsonga's chances, either. He's played great up until now and certainly comes ib with a chance, but this is one instance where a slower surface actually benefits Roger a bit.

I think that, given the fact that after Tsonga, Federer could be in a French Open final and maybe not have to play Nadal to win the title could have a huge psychological role in getting him over his next two opponents.

Really? I think Fed will win this match but it's going to be tough.

Yes friend I think Jo is primed to get Fed and get to the finals before losing to Nadal/Djoker. He seems more focused and business like and unlike the lunch pale personality Simon, the French crowd more than likely will cheer him.

He has the power to test the BH of Fed unlike Simon

Hard to know who will win, if it was on grass I would take Jo for sure, but clay favours Federer even more so maybe Fed in 5 or Jo in 4 or 5. I think if Fed is to win, it will take him 5 sets!

I think that the conditions may favor Tsonga more.... No doubt they'll play the evening match, given Fed prefers them because the conditions favor Fed. The warming up would otherwise favor Tsonga.

I think this Simon match was a wake up call for Fed in a way. Tsonga cant blast Fed off the court on clay. I have a feeling Fed in 4.

Going with Tsonga in 4, based on their recent form. However, it all depends on which Federer blesses the court with his coming.

Tsonga for the win in 4. When is Fed going to give his true age? He looks to be close to 50 years old. I give him credit for hanging in there and winning a 5-set match at his age.

Eh? I think Federer has looked like the same 35-year-old guy since he was 18.

The one who looks 50 is Ivan Ljubicic.

Fed hasn't been in peak form this clay season but it's not players like Tsonga that have been troubling him. Nishikori, Nadal, Simon...all of these guys have done well to be defend well, expose Fed's weaknesses and not let him play his game. Tsonga won't do that, he'll try to blast Fed off the court as usual. Fed will be able to play his game and outplay Tsonga. Tsonga won't be able to hit him off a clay court. Fed in 4.
