Joao Ffonseca racquet?

Pretty sure it's the 2021 vcore 98. Racquet looks glossy like a prostock so I don't think he's using the new version. Also head shape does not look like new vcore 98.

String setup is PT Strike 1.25/1.20 50/48lbs.

One racquet was a VCore 95 and the other was a 98. Must have been testing them. Both glossy PJ.

Got to string for him during his Texas visit.
Good Insight! Any guess as to whether it was extended or whether it was 2021 or 2023? Or did you string it before the 2023 came out?

Bumping this thread because he won first atp match but also because I'm pretty sure he switched to the 95 vcore 2021. Weird for him to move down a headsize and to stick with the older model. He was definitely using the 98 throughout juniors and when he beat Tien at the US Open.

I'm Brazilian and these images/data were passed on by a person who knows his stringer in Rio. He only used the Vcore 95 for testing on a Challenger in the city where I live (Florianópolis) last year. I don't know what the Vcore 95 specs were at the time. About the balance, I don't know. But he uses a little lead tape at 12 o'clock, 3-9 o'clock and the throat. In addition to leather cushion. Regarding the balance, I have no information, but I would say that with this static weight / SW it should be something like 8-9 HL.

Goated for getting the specs. I think he must have switched back to the 95 after his Junior US Open run. When he won that one challenger he was using 16x20 and in his most recent match vs Fils I counted 20 crosses. Also lead tape has disappeared so most likely Yonex just gave him a pro stock with his desired weight since they’ve been on the no lead tape showing trend.

When Roger Federer and On sign a head-to-toe contract with a 17-year-old, you know this guy will have a very good future ahead.

Verifique novamente, é 19 cruzado e ele usa o Vcore 98 2021.

Wasnt Mmoh using similar mold?
Yep, and one of his pro stocks is currently listed on FleaBay.
Weren’t the old vcore XI or TI 98 ‘s 16x20?
Yes. Xi, Si, and SV were all 16x20 in the 98” option. Fonseca’s looks to me like the 2018 or 2021 since he has the Aero Fin grooves next to the bridge, and the headshape is not that of the 2023. Plus we know Yonex does custom drill patterns like for Nishioka.

Wow, 16x20 in a 98. That is special.
Definitely special for Yonex and the other leading racquet brands. The now minor and less visible brand of Fischer/Pacific has always had a 98 sq. inch, 16x20 in the Pro No. 1 racquet. The 16x20 pattern in a 98 sq. inch head is the GOAT of patterns IMO.

Did anyone noticed how his overgrips where sliding off his leather grips? Probably because of the brute force he hits with

Yonex 98 Vcore SV 16x20 confirmed…

Anyone has he’s frames spare for sell, I’m Interested.. :D
How were you able to confirm that it's a Vcore SV 98? It has aero fins on the throat and the SV 98 doesn't. Are we absolutely sure its not just a pro stock Vcore 95 2021 weighted up to his specs with 98 on the side of the frame for marketing purposes? In the picture on the behind the racquet tennis instagram, we can see it has 20 crosses and aerofins. It's probably just a 95. I don't think it would be an old mold. Plus the head shape looks small (this might be placebo/illusion though).

Joao Fonseca’s racquet looks like a new Yonex VCORE 95 and he was testing this model for a while. We feature it in our Yonex VCORE 2023 racquets review. But after talking to friends of his who know his racquets, it is actually a Yonex VCORE SV 98. One way to tell is the shape of the racquet but also that it is a 16/20 pattern. He strings it with Yonex Poly Tour Strike.

His specs are: 348g, 331 SW strung. There is lead tape at 3, 9, 12, and the throat, and he uses a leather grip…”
