Joao Fonseca - how many slams

Looks like a future slam winner by 20.
Has the height. Power. Movement??

Book him in for any surface at some point. Future of tennis looking good again.

Son, why don't you post a highlight for us ? Let's see how good is the new star.
Will do in future.
This guy will be good. Great? Who knows. I see at least 8-10 slams if he keeps growing and improving.
Only thing stopping him his injuries and going the way of others....

17 year old Fonseca will have to share those slams with 18 year old Mensik who's actually closer to getting his first slam soon.

Nah he doesnt look like 6.1, ATP is lying, he is more like 5'8 max

Looking at the highlights that FH is definitely a huge plus. Very penetrating and can be hit with heavy spin too, plus he doesn't have that hideous chicken-wing PoMo style that some of the next gen have, leading to more solid contact in general.

BH also doesn't look like as much of a liability like Alcaraz's (which is way too flat) or Ruud's (lacks power). Decent power and spin and ability to change directions.

We can all agree he won't have anywhere close to Nadal/Federer/Djokovic variety in his shots but he would be very good at pinning players back behind baseline

Serve looks on it's way as well .... We will have to wait for a Hardcourt match to see about the return, but if that is not too shabby either then it's all aboard !

I predict with the likes of Mensik/Fonseca/Sinner on the scene, Alcaraz ain't winning more than 5-7 slams his career.

Building momentum now - train has left the station, next stop Nadal's broken body at the next clay warm up R1

He was a great designated hitter but the drugs took a shine off him and he’s probably a little old to be making a career switch

Any chance of him getting a Wildcard for ATP Santiago?...if he wins the next match, does he have any chance of getting into the Special Exempt?

Anywhere from 0 to 30

20 Slams will be the minimum expectation for him.

20 Slams in a stronk era - if he were competing against ATGs, he'd probably be in the 18-22 slam title range. But this is the Weakest Era of All Possible Worlds, so I'd bookmark him for at least 33-35 slams. Of course, the real benchmark will be when he plays younger ATGs, and especially those who are 5-6 years younger. What do you know of the talent pool among those born in 2011 or 2012?

As a followup to post #36, Fonseca looks like the first ATG-Level talent since Nadal. Amazing that there were no players at ATG Level born between 1986 and 2006! There is usually just a four or five year gap between ATGs, tops, and now we've gone a full 20 years! ROTFLMAO!

Are you trolling?
Djokovic was born in 1987
Murray was too and he would have been an ATG if it wasn’t for Djokovic
Sinner was born in 2001 and he will probably be an ATG
Same with Alcaraz, born in 2003

He is trolling, but even still, a 15 year gap between ATGs is ridiculous and unprecedented

I agree. Especially the 1990-1994 cohort was abysmal. The 1995-1999 is still bad, but not as bad (with a big what if surrounding zverev). 2000-2004 is very solid.

That being said what is also ridiculous is to have Nadal, Djokovic and Murray born within a year, and the cohort from 1985-1989 is probably the strongest of all time.

Djokovic never reached ATG Level. He is an ATG vulture, of course! But in terms of tennis Level, he is just shy. To be an ATG, you have to have played at a Level of 190+/200. Djokovic's Level is 189, so he narrowly falls short.

Murray is also not an ATG. His highest Level was probably about 182. A world-class player, for sure, but not an ATG.

Sinner lost a set against a 37-year-old Drunkovic at the AO when Sinner was in his absolute Peak and Prime. Alcaraz actually lost to a 36-year-old on a walker at Roland Garros 2023, and he cramped so badly that he lost two sets 6-1 6-1. Neither of these gaffes is forgivable. Neither of them can ever become an ATG.

(You should also listen to Kralingen for pearls of wisdom).

Gah! He wasn't sure until you pointed it out! Spoilsport! ;)

He's not that good, he's ranked around 700 at the age of 17. He lost match to unseeded Argentine ,don't think he will ever recover.
