I find this absolutely farcical in all honesty. A member of her team has taken a test which came back positive, because of this and her close proximity with Konta, Konta now has to self isolate and has been told by Wimbledon she can no longer play and will be replaced by a lucky loser. Konta has taken tests every day which have all come back negative.What would happen if Fed, Nadal or Djokovics team members tested positive yet didn’t have the viruses themselves… would they throw them out ? Absolutely not, they would cover it up I guarantee it.
I feel sad for Konta in this instance

Exactly, but because she’s been in contact with her team member who has it they now think Johana is a serious risk to also catch it/spread it. I think as long as they are doing tests everyday and its negative she should be able to play but that’s just my opinion. It’s not as if Tennis is a close contact sport either. Can you imagine if one of Novaks or Feds team got it and they banned them from playing, it would cause riots lol

As a professional tennis player who has to travel the world to play tournaments I would imagine she is at least vaccinated. The vaccine however doesn’t stop you from catching anything though it’s more a way to protect you from being hospitalised so she could still get Covid and spread it to those who are vulnerable , although the chances of that happening I’d say are slim since she wouldn’t really be in contact with many people, just her team

Tbh, I find it embarrassing that not all the pros are vaccinated yet. They should make it a requirement, then we won't get this silliness

Presumably every player is vaccinated with few exceptions like Djoker...

But the covid policy has not changed and does not discriminate between vaccinated and non vaccinated players. Any player who tests positive or is deemed a close contact is removed.

The reasoning is that a vaccinated player can still get infected (albeit with far less ptobability and most likely moderate symptoms) and still spread.

Trust the Science and the extremely low probabilities?? Not at Wimbledon. Hysteria rules the day.

Someone of her age wouldn't be fully vaccinated in the UK unless they've got an underlying medical condition, as far as I'm aware. She's likely to have had her first dose, but I don't know if athletes have channels to access accelerated doses? It's been pretty rigidly rolled out prioritising elderly and those with specific conditions.

Yeah July 19th is when all restrictions in the UK are set to end including wearing masks and social contact, but cases are actually going up again and knowing our incompetent government we will go back into lockdown. Our old health secretary just got caught out for having an affair with his aide while he told people they couldn’t even see their own families and he didn’t get sacked for it , but left due to embarrassment.

I don't think they're really at a stage here in the UK where places ask to see proof of vaccination/full vaccination with 2 doses. I only had my first last week and I've not encountered any change in rules anywhere just because I've had a dose.
 
What a shame. A bit like Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell situation. It sucks.

I think it looks worse than what it is, the delta variant is on the rampage right now but the UK is doing millions more tests so the numbers of people getting infected or suffering with it will be higher in comparison to before when they had a much smaller amount of people getting tested for it

Here's hoping a new strain doesn't rock up in the next few weeks...
 
Sad but from what I hear Delta is very rampant in Britain, so I suppose the decision is a wise choice. Better safe than sorry.

As far as I'm aware, intensive care units are not under the massive strain they encountered at the beginning of this year, so the vaccination programme is doing the job.

It’s a disgrace and they just play at it for me. I know Covid is bad but im really appalled by how our government has handled this. I couldn’t even see my mum, my dad or my grandmother who is in a nursing home whos completely alone and believed we had left her but yet Hancock is messing around in his office with another woman at the height of a pandemic and cheating on his wife in the process, the same man who said we all couldn’t see our families. They all p””s in the same pot and none of them care

Even a single dose provides much protection. There should be an option for a positive player (or close contact) to continue on.

What the hell is the point of getting vaccinated if you are treated just the same as a non vaccinated player?

It does prevent you from being infected (in almost all cases) and coming into contact with the virus while being asymptomatic means you have an extremely low chance of spreading it since it travels through aerosols.
 
Can anyone confirm this for me? A guy on Twitter commented on the Konta post on the official Wimbledon Twitter account by saying that Nadal practiced with Medvedev the day Med tested positive for coronavirus but Nadal was still allowed to play in Monte Carlo ? Is that true?

Probably not, but that means it is a political and not scientific decision. And those are the ones that have caused the mistakes.
