John Isner

I know John Isner has been using the O3 White for a while now with great success. (He's beaten Henman and now Benjamin Becker in DC in his second ATP tourney!)

I assume that he's added weight to his racquet but with the O ports it's kinda hard to put lead tape on. Anyone have any information on his specs? Does Prince just customize the weight and balance for him?

Thanks.

Hmmm.....I saw him play in the NCAA team finals for Georgia last year (May) at Stanford and he wasn't using an O3 White then. If memory serves me correctly, I think he was using a Prince Triple Threat Graphite or something along those lines.

He was using the White when he finished 2nd in this year's NCAA individuals in Georgia. I didn't think it has been out 'a couple years' but I could be wrong.

I watched him just a few months ago at Vandy and he was using an O3 White. HUGE serve. ;) Ryan Preston actually won the second set and then folded, unfortunately. CC

The point is he's using the White now and on the tour. I can't imagine that he's using it stock, though, so I was interested if anyone knew what his racquet weighs in at?

There was one guy here who knows John Isner personally and i remembered him saying that he has it customized cause he needs the extra weight to slow down his swing. So yeah im assuming he added some weight to it. I had to add some weight cause the o3 white wasnt stable enough for me.

heres the quote about his friend talking about John Isner racquet and his game style.

Yeah John isner uses an o3 white, but i am friends with a former athletic trainer that worked with the tennis team who said Isner has some deal with Prince, i think he gets racquets but not money. I'm sure they are customized a bit, otherwise i dont know how he would keep the ball in play (he's 6'9 and very powerful). I wouldnt really call him a serve/volleyer though, maybe he volleys more than the other players on the team but not enough to define his game, its more powerful serve and big forehand to put it away.
The usual number two player, Travis Helgeson, uses a K6.1 95, not sure of string pattern. Luis Flores, the #3 (which is really unfair to say, because Isner, Flores, and Helgeson really could rotate at #1), uses an 03 tour ( i think the 100 sq in. size). Matic Omerzel and Ricardo Gonzales both use technifibre (not sure of models), Jamie Hunt and Nate Schnugg (the guys who won junior US Open doubles last year, lucky r-e-cruits [dont know why that word is not allowed]) are using Wilson Ntour 2's and either Nblade/Npro open(couldnt get a good look), respectively. Josh Varela, the sometimes #6 with really cool double backhands, rather than a backhand and a forehand, uses what seems to be a stock pure drive. I'm not sure about the others on the team, haven't seen the rest play.

i think hes got the potential to do real well while on the atp tour. hes built like a ivo karlovic and has the weapons. all he needs to sum up is executing his game plan and compete with the big boyz. he was a fantastic college player and has brought his confidence with him into the atp tour. hes got to the NCAA Championship match and thats a huge honoR. And his serve is a bomb and can carry him into many paths to sucess. Roger, Rafa, Novak, watch out for >>>>>-_-JOHN ISNER-_->>>>

Please turn off the Bold button. It hurts my eyes to read your post.
Thanks.

he just switched last year to the 03 white. The guy i hit with coached john when he was at greensboro page here in NC. John gave him a bunch of his old racquets when he made the switch.

On another note i think john has a good outlook with his huge serve. He has a personality about like federers... really nice guy who is focused on doing his best and not trying to cause any problems, if only more of the pros were like that.

This is all very nice but the point of my thread was to see if anyone knew what JI's specs were? I know his White has to be customized for weight/balance/stiffness and if anyone knows what?

Hey, I actually dont know him personally (outside of saying hey in passing), I have watched him play at UGA over the last few years. he used a leaded stock triple threat graphite before the 03 white, and I know he has some sort of deal with prince; I know he used to go on **** to get old triple threats and was having trouble finding them but did have a decent stockpile, so I imagine Prince worked with him on this one. I wouldnt be surprised if his o3 isnt stock at all, but made heavier for him by prince. I am friends with a former athletic trainer who worked with the team and he said they often get racquets from the manufacturers through deals, so I imagine he has something worked out with prince. I couldnt see lead any time I watched him (and I sat pretty close to the court) so I guess its either under the bumper or an o3 white that prince matched to the weight and balance of his old triple threat. Speculation, but seems logical.

Oh i see, sorry if i said you knew him personally i forgot to read your quote carefully  . I think some pros have their racquets customized to their likings without adding lead tape onto the sides by i guess must molding them another frame. I mean its hard to apply lead tape onto the o3 racquets with the holes that you have to cut the lead tapes into thin strips like i do.

I dont know why its hard to apply the lead tape to O port racquets? You use 1/4 tape and it simply folds into the ports, very neat and tidy.

Isner was playing doubles with Rosol. They just won and Tennis Channel showed the final set super-tie breaker. John officially has the TexTreme Warrior! The serves and groundies looked as good as ever.

So why has Prince kept him and let others go? Because he was willing to ditch ports and actually use textreme?

You're assuming Prince let them go. How do you know Isner and Granollers didn't choose to leave? Maybe they tried other frames and liked what they saw?

Watched his doubles match new racquet looks like a textreme but on point he was wearing Nike shoes? Maybe due to shoe size and comfort demands it's taking Fila a bit to get this right...?

I'd be willing to bet Prince came to John and said "This new Warrior is all yours.. whatever spec you want, we'll do it. If you want it to play like the O3 White.. we'll do it. Just please don't leave us!"
I know for a fact that John sells rackets for Prince. He is so likable and he's our top guy.

So after using the search function, this is the only thread on John Isner's specs (weight/balance/swingweight). Did the TT world ever get any closer to finding out anything? (unless I am a sucky searcher, then no) :(
