John McEnroe calls out Djokovic [!]

A long history of taking time outs for medical reasons . But sometime it slows the opponent rhythm and sometime it completely destroy the opponent game plan.
Alcaraz has defeated novak in wimbeldon 2 times and injured nadal was no match for alcaraz .
No excuse for alcaraz loosing this game .

Alcaraz let it get to him. He played way too safe in that second set, thinking Novak was too hurt to hang with him. And Novak did seem to struggle with his movement to the forehand side for a bit, but for most of sets 3 and 4 he looked fine. You just can't assume that injury will do Novak in. He fights through and recovers (and, yes, hams it up a bit when he is hurting). This already happened once in Cincinnati - hopefully Carlos is better prepared next time.

Still don't know how he pulled it off. Hung on by a thread in the fourth set.
If it had gone 5 sets, the much younger much fresher and much quicker Alcaraz is almost certainly a 90% favourite to win the match.
Much younger
Much fresher
Much quicker
Much dumber

You mean to say carlos knowingly played below his level so novak can compete.
Is this WWE.
You dont let your guard down in any case. There is lot of time to say sorry when the match is over and you and your opponent are giving interview.

Carlos joins a long list of players who have been duped by the master of deception lol

Do you play tennis? Have you played through an injury? Just wondering.
I’ve played through significant injuries in other sports. I play tennis casually I was better at basketball and baseball. I played basketball on a partially torn calf once. These things are possible especially with how ridiculous the pain mitigating drugs are now. If I had access to them in D3 basketball you bet Novak does too.

Tennis is widely considered one of the most difficult sports. It requires fine motor skills and sophisticated kinetic chain activation, all while covering the court with hard acceleration and deceleration. Even a small injury impedes these complex movements severely.

The Djoker was clearly grimacing in pain and limping. Thought he was gonna retire. He took the painkillers.
Says he will have to evaluate the injury tomorrow morning when the painkillers wear off.
Even if he was faking, it did not throw off Alcaraz. It did not affect the match.
Players are free to run around during the MTO. Stretch. Rally. Meditate.
A smart opponent uses the MTO delay to their advantage.
People accused him of faking at FO last year. Then felt idiots when he withdrew.

Nah people, the guy is old. These type of "mini injuries" will come much more often now. The body just can't stand it anymore after 20 years of constant wear and tear.
Do "old" guys whose bodies can't stand it anymore down the very best players in the world, 15 years younger in 4 sets?

Not saying he was faking or not.

I just don't think "old" applies to Novak at this point.

It does. Exactly because of it he will lose the final, or even the semi final. On the other hand, if he was 10 years younger, I could've swear he'd win it all easily on his pet slam.

Telling me you wasted your life sitting at the desk job/school chair and lying on the couch at home, without telling me.
If this is your best comeback, maybe you should have spent some more time in school

Yes, we'll forward his name for an Oscar nomination.

Come on now, this behaviour is like clockwork. Nothing new, seen it many times before. Have an itch and act like it's a full blown traumatic amputation, only to jump around like a rabbid rabbit.
Agreed. I also think he does it because the win he really needs is for the people to love him...so he tries over and over to "get hurt" and stage an AMAZING comeback. He so socially inept that he actually thinks that will have pull with those that don't like him--we still don't; we still see it as gamesmanship. His fans are solid but he's not likely to add new ones with that tired routine.

First he looks down and out and then he just goes 5th gear mode.
Sometime he said that i go and look into the mirror and talk to myself .
You need each and every bit of inspiration to win .
Can't say he fakes his injury or not but MTO is under rules and regulation. So he maybe bending the rules but certainly not breaking them.
But alcaraz lost after winning opening set is not digestable.

If some people think Djokovic abuses MTO for a decades why did not all generations of players make an adjustments to this so called evil strategy? Is not that more of a failure of his opponents - all generations of opponents? Alcaraz was not in easy situation... Djokovic raised FH speed up to 139 km per hour (first set was 130) and BH speed from 116 to 124 per hour. That's some serious heavy hitting.

Btw. He took some pain killers, it took some time before he started to play well again and adrenalin rushed. I remember some people who doubt about French Open meniscus tear and then Djokovič withdraw.

Who, McEnroe?
If it's directed at Djok, it's actually other way round with his wife.

That's not what I've heard (both on the Internet regarding the "nanny" and from people in tennis circles somewhat close to Djokovic). But I have no first-hand information.

I mean EVERY players do this. Sinner, Alcaraz, Medvedev, Zverev, Rublev. They've all done this more than once. I'm not gonna hold Djokovic to higher standards. I think he was in pain, took medication and got better. Perhaps he exaggerates it a little (I said perhaps, I'm not saying he does) but everyone did. I don't see the big deal here. Taking a MTO is within the rules. This one was quite short (6 minutes) compared to Sinner's against Rune (11 minutes). I can't think of one player who never took a bogus MTO or toilet break during a match. Let's be real. Nadal , Federer and Murray are retired but they could write a book about controversial or exaggerated injuries and breaks. (Fedal fans claiming otherwise must suffer from serious amnesia).
If Alcaraz was fooled, too bad for him. He won the first set. If Djokovic's issues is the reason why he couldn't win sets 2, 3 or 4, it's on him. He lost to a better player.

I agree with him. I’m sure Djokovic’s hip hurt, but I’m also sure he played it up a bit to mess with Alcaraz’s focus while also boosting his nothing-to-lose mentality.

He started the match playing so passive that I felt like even a subpar Alcaraz would beat him. He doesn’t have the movement to play a passive style anymore and get away with it. Then as soon as he took his MTO, he started playing a more aggressive style that he needed from the start. I think he kinda used the injury excuse to justify playing more aggressively to himself and get himself in that mindset.

Alcaraz himself mocked Djokovic’s injury for a bit, grabbing at his hip and fake limping during a changeover. Honestly this reminded me a lot of the Australian Open 2015 final, and Murray complained at the press conference after that match.

That being said, Alcaraz was subpar this match. Djokovic was winning this no matter what as long as he somewhat played the right way tactically.
