John McEnroe endorsed Dunlop Max 200G (non-Wimbledon/USO version)

Bud

Bionic Poster
I came across another Max 200G (didn't realize I had so many of these!) in my closet that is endorsed by Mac and carries his signature and tension recommendation on the throat.

However, it's not the 1984 Wimbledon/USO version. Also, the full-length cover has his signature on it as well. The graphics are the same as the 1984 version with double green stripes and green/gold chevrons.

I didn't realize a McEnroe signature 200G model existed (outside of the 1984 Wimby/USO).

Any additional info on this frame?

That is the 1986 cosmetics for the Max 200G. I still have one left. The original cosmetic that is the two green stripe has a different butt-cap that has the Dunlop flying D and Made in England written on it along with Mad In England written on the frame.

When did Dunlop switch to Dunlop branded leather grips as opposed to the Fairway leather grips?

The first Max 200G in 1982 had a black perforated leather grip. In 1983 the Max 200G got the black grip with dunlop written in small gold print that ran the length of the grip. it was the same grip that came on the Maxply McEnroe.

In 1986 Dunlop started putting tan Fairway grips on the racquets. But they were not consistent. I have some with Tan branded Dunlop and some with tan Fairway grips.

All of my 3 Max 300i from 1986 production have the Dunlop branded leather grips. All of My 1988 and 1989 Max 200G have Fairway grips But I Have seen Eiropean Market Racquets with Green leather grips). All of my 1988 Max 400i that I had, had Fairway (But I have seen European Market racquets with a green leather grip). But all of My 1990 Max 200G Pro's came with the tan Dunlop Branded Leather grip.

What year did they switch to that style of throat grommet?

No one lives forever

So, does that mean I'll have a heart attack?

my dad told me, if you look at the palm of your right hand, you'll see the lines forming a capital letter "M" because we are mortal.

but the one who doesn't have it is an immortal :)

I like them much better than the dual 3-prong throat grommets :)

Thanks for the info.

Another interesting thing on the Max 200G Pro that were made from 1990 onwards is Dunlop made the grips slightly longer to accommodate a two handed backhand better. The racquets are still standard length.

So they took out some of the throat length where the chevrons are located?

How much longer did they make the grip... 1/2"?

That's what I thought as well:)

It's a standard 86 version I think!!!

Yet again Vsbabolat, amazing info:)

I had never noticed this!!!

Here you can see that the bottom racquet with the different type font of "200G" and with out the word Hysol written has a slightly longer grip.

The 200G's were really refined by the end of their lifecycle. Too bad Dunlop discontinued such an awesome frame.

Excellent photo:)

I love this sort of stuff, it's why I collect racquets. I know I only actually need about 5 to play with, but this is what makes racquet collecting fun for me, finding out this sort of stuff:)

Anyone reading this thread not understanding racquet collecting would think I was mad, and they may have a point:)

Thanks Jimbo!

Did you ever get your camera working?

The camera works fine, thanks for advice by the way:)

It's my computer that is the problem, it has an unfixable software problem apparently:(

I'm going to buy a new computer when I get a new job (which I hope is soon). You may not believe it now, but in a few months you will be complaining about how many photos I'm putting up here!!!
