John McEnroe:" Roger is the most beautiful player I've ever seen in a tennis court."

Hmm.....conveniently, a "new" member shows up, with a very pro-Federer thread, just as Djokovic dominates the men's game (and discussion of it), while Nadal may end up winning another major in a few days.

All too convenient.

He's like a swan. Graceful, dignified and elegant, but if you **** him off he can break your arm!

Or beat you in straight sets.

And McEnroe has seen A LOT of tennis players in his lifetime. :)

Beauty is usually in the eye of the beholder except when it comes to Federer. There has never been a more graceful and beautiful tennis player on the pro tour. That's an objective consensus. :)

Roger's game is exceptional and nobody will ever get even close to it's beauty.

He said Fed along with Laver. I don't think many disagree. Although MAc has become very prone to hyping stuff, I don't think this statement is an example of his hype. Mac ranks up there himself. I wish Mac were as beautiful in his commentary as he was with his tennis.

What's funny is that when McEnroe says Nadal is the best player he's ever seen or whatever, all of the same people in here will say he's a complete idiot.

McEnroe says a lot of things. His purported brilliance or idiocy seems to always correlate to whether or not people agree with him. Kind of funny, that.

I guess Johnny Mac is trying to make up for his bad boy past by saying nice things about today's players. ha ha ha.

Name just one current or former top pro who has ever stated that Nadal is "the most beautiful player I've ever seen on a tennis court". :???:

If McEnroe said what he said about Federer because he likes to say things that people agree with him on, it's because it's true. That's why people agree with him. :)

He started with his serve motion, then his overall game.

He also mentioned Laver, who to me has the most beautiful serve motion I have ever seen.

Im not a huge Federer fan (Rios is still my all time fav), but he's EASILY the prettiest tennis player to watch.

Granted, I never saw Laver or Borg play in person, but no one hits/moves like RF.....he's a completely different breed..

His feet make 0 noise.....it's kind of spooky.

Every person on this forum owes it to themselves to get out to a tourney and see an RF practice session before he hangs them up.

Where have you been? That was two weeks ago.

Last week it was "Nadal is the GOAT."

But this week it is "Djokovic is the most evolved player of all time."

Eventually some player will be the next stage in evolution.:)

Let's look at the record. McEnroe said Sampras is the GOAT. He also said Federer is the GOAT later. He changed his mind and switched Federer to 7 or 8. He changed his mind again and Federer is the GOAT again. I didn't hear that he said Nadal is the GOAT. That's new.

But I am not sure what to believe because when he said Sampras was the GOAT, he also said he liked his chances against Sampras when he was at his best in 1984. So was McEnroe in 1984 greater than a GOAT?

Is Agassi still the greatest returner?

That's not the point. The fact is Mac said Federer is the most beautiful player and Laver is next behind. If you agree/disagree then enlighten us but don't attack the OP.

If JMac or anyone else that claims that Fed is the GOAT now *can* change their mind, if someone comes along and shatters all or many of Federer's records. What's wrong with that? this is not cut in stone, and it's pretty obvious that "all time" here refers only to time from the past to present; it does not extend to the future.

Mac said Pete was the goat BEFORE Federer came along. He(and Andre) said it in 2009 when Fed completed the career slam. I've never heard Mac said Nadal is the goat, unless someone post the link then that's just rumor.

People change their mind when a new great player arrive and dominate more than any player in the past. If 20 yrs from now, another player surpassed Roger's 16 slams, I don't have a problem if Mac changes his mind. The present and future will determine if people will or will not change their view.

your post makes no sense. wtf has "convenience" got to do with this? or Djoker dominating or nadal winning another slam? JMac made this statement yesterday, and it showed up as a thread today.

:)

Next week, don't be surprised if he says, "Djokovic will win 25 majors. Count on it!"

In other words, McEnroe will hype just about any current player in order to keep the sport alive.

Open your eyes. New threads about how "great" Federer is in the face of the recent, torrential flood of pro-Djokovic fan and sports media attention--not to mention Nadal possibly winning again on his best surface pushes Federer in the background (more than his declining career). Thus, some Fed fans cannot stand the attention given to Djokovic and/or Nadal, so a convenienly timed pro-Federer thread pops on the scene.

Even saying someone will win 100 Slams is not anywhere near the same thing as saying that someone is the most beautiful player they've ever seen on a tennis court. Even if Federer had zero Slams, he'd still be the most beautiful player I or McEnroe or anyone else has ever seen on a tennis court.

Huh? As a Federer fan, I LOVE all the attention currently given to Djokovic and Nadal. It takes all the pressure off of Federer and puts it onto the shoulders of Djokovic and Nadal. Nothing could be better than for Federer to be flying under the radar. He and his fans couldn't have wished for a better scenario. :)

^^^^ I doubt Mac cares more about the sport or any player or players in particular than simply the sound of his own voice over the air.

Yeah, that's ture. Even if he loses now in quarters o semis it doesnt bother his fans vs when he was the favorite. These are tough days for Nadal fans on the other hand.

As a Fed fan, I'm extremely hungry for a Serena thread. But too bad she's out of shape, addicted to HSN and therefore not playing tennis.
