John McEnroe to Nadal: Ax Toni

Cage match! I'll bet on Uncle Toni to have JMac crying like a 'rhymes with itch' in less than a minute.

Having said that, I agree. Carlos Moya, es el tiempo. Vamos.

Well it is obvious that Nadal can''t keep on playing the way he does right now. He needs a change. He should use his great volley game more for starters, but I don't think that is happening with Toni around.

McEnroe is actually saying: Nadal, hire me.

I can only imagine how that would go.

Mac: Rafa... I'm going to teach you to serve and volley. You have the best volleys in the top 100 and should use them more.
Rafa: Ok.

***10 straight losses later***

Mac: What the hell are you doing in there Rafa? You're making me look like a chump.
Rafa: I don't think that my volleys are as good as you say they are.
Mac: Yes they are damn it. You have the best volleys I've ever seen.
Rafa: I think I want to switch back to Uncle Toni.
Mac: Rafa, you have the greatest volleys of all time. Don't you get it? Just get it, please.

Too late to radically change game style IMO. That grinding, defensive mindset is in his backbone.

One thing that bugs me about guys like Mac and Courier is that they burnt out and got distractions that messed with their career and now they sit back and act like they did everything right in their tennis lives. Courier was reading books in between games for god sake. And Mac did all kinds of dumb things.

We have a winner here. :D

Seriously, I think he should, but I doubt it will ever happen. At least adding someone with a fresh view to his team would be most welcome.
Can you imagine how many on-court coaching violations Nadal would have to endure? I hope Connors also comes back to coaching so we can see an entirely different kind of match in the player boxes.

When Nadal lost to Steve Darcis in 2013, he famously said, "I don't want to talk about my knees today." Now he casually drops in the fact that he lost that match because of his knees.

If Nadal doesn't change the, "If I lose, I must have been injured," shtick, how is he going to change his attitude about his coaching staff.

If McEnroe could somehow teach Nadal to serve like how he used to serve (7 out of 10 of McEnroe's serving ability), Nadal will go back to the top.

Nadal needs a super coach, too. I think the only one truly qualified, who understands Nadal's game and his mind and soul is our sureshs. sureshs should coach Nadal. They could even start with youtube instructions till Rafa is confident enough to hire him full time.

What do you think, @sureshs ?

OTOH, I know sureshs will refuse this offer. I have heard him say:

Nadal has no weakness, so what can a coach contribute?

His serve was crazy in 2013 at the US Open, he needs to replicate that and get some more free points.
