John McEnroe's rant addressed to Monfils...

Monfils has a fantastic life thanks to French tennis federation. And that's enough for him.
I believe this is probably true. He likes 'the life' - doesn't care about championships.

For once, I agree with JMac. It's so annoying watching Monfils nowadays.
Old saying "million dollar talent, ten cent brain." Monfils epitomizes that.

The problem with pro tennis is that the coach is actually working for the player so the player is boss. Even in some team sports, if the star athlete and the coach don't get along, guess who is out?
Ain't that the truth. I watched Monfils previous coach walk off the practice court a few yrs ago in Indian Wells - he was trying to get GM to work on something and he just kept screwing around. Not long afterwards, he was gone and Rasheed was in.

I cant believe that a player with those guns plays a conservative game. Biggest waste of talent on the tour after Jack sock.

Maybe we can steal Olie Rochus' or someone elses brain and implant it in Monfils' body. People call Murray a pusher but Le Monf is the real deal. At least Murray wants to win.

If McEnroe wants to help Monfils, he could talk to him in private, give him advice in private, instead of dissing him in public. At least Monfils has some class on the court instead of the inpolite jerk that McEnroe was throughout his career insulting lines people and referees like some punk.

McEnroe is from New York, wadda ya expect?

John Mcenroe is just racist against black people from france.

Hah, you are so wrong. As a previous poster said, he approached Monfil's coach numerous times prior to this match to try and help.

If he was so racist he wouldn't be trying to help Monfils in the first place.

It must be said that (if any of you are in France you'd already know this) le Monf has so many other things going for him that tennis isn't as high a priority as it should be. What I think he needs is a trigger - like a grand slam win by another french player, especially Tsonga for example. That might make Monf jealous enough to change his focus. Cuz right now he can look at Jo and say 'look, Jo's focused and disciplined and trying to improve his game and all - he's doing what y'all telling me to do, but yet that's not helping him grab the majors and masters or something, so why should I change my ways? C'est vrai, non?'

yep we've learned recently that the french sportsmen really don't like to be told what to do and are prepared to sulk like children if the hammer is laid down on them.

Lol I doubt it. None of the French players need to work for anything nowadays. Women throw themselves at Tsonga and Gasquet, and everyone else seems to have it so good as well. The fact that they have to play tennis is just a formality.

Monfils will never change, probably every coach on earth has told him to get more aggressive etc but he likes to stay back 30' behind the baseline.

Monfils says he is a rat when he plays tennis. He scurries around the court going from one thing to another and that's his playing style and he likes it.

So that's the bottom line from Monfils.

Did he actually say that or was it yet anther homoerotic commentary from jim courier.

Well, if those lines people and referees got their calls right, he wouldn't have needed to yell at them. Duh!

Not everybody plays tennis for the same reasons. The fact is, he's a celebrity, he's got tens of millions of dollars, whenever I see him play it looks like he has loads of fun doing it. People are just motivated by different things and it's possible he never would have done as well as he had if he took tennis more seriously. He may have burned out a long time ago.
