SJ did the same in Cincy. I thought he's wearing his old Asics Solution Speeds. Just my opinion.
I have no idea of the exact model, but definitely ASICS shoes...
and didn't know he did the same thing is Cincy.
Hopefully Yonex does not get upset... lol

Off topic, but does Johnson have a backhand? I'm pretty sure I watched a whole set and only seen him slice.

Players that can expose that backhand beat him. He’s forehand is world class.
Do you mean players that can expose his slice beat him? He literally never hits any topspin backhands?
Perhaps he starts slicing once players expose his weak topspin backhand? Nevertheless, that mustache is world class and refreshing to see on the ATP tour.

R1 Johnson played with the Yonex shoe and wins.... changes to his ducktaped Asics for R2 and loses. Granted, he lost vs Khachonov, but still... why change?
Guess there is more than meets the eye and he is still not comfortable with the Yonex.

This is how popular Asic shoes is among the ATP players. In the interview with steve johnson one time said in the tour and also at the challenger tournament, most used and beloved shoes by pro athletes is Asics tennis shoe, even those that can't wear it due to contractual reasons want to wear Asics if they could.

-sooo, is the tape for love or hate??
-more love for the asics feel (on his feet)?
or
-more hate for the asics brand (on his bank account)?

Stevie's tape-up jobs never cease to make me laugh. Always think: man those Yonex shoes must be bad. Company can't be happy.
-thats a tough one,
-feet are like grips/o-grips its all a personal feel
-i would wager that switching shoes is tougher to do than switching racquets
-if he cant move properly/confidently he cant compete, and or hurt himself
