Kellogg is being sued over Strawberry Pop Tarts. Plaintiffs contend there are not enough strawberries in them to justify the name, as apparently a good deal of apple and pear is also crammed in there to fill the thing out. No justice, no peace! The plaintiff is asking 5 million dollars in "damages"

This might have finally soured my belief in the US legal system.

Looking for my share of that $5 million

Looking at the ingredients list, way down near the bottom, in order: dried pears, dried apples, dried strawberries.

The Kellogg's developers of this product had suggested High Fructose Corn Syrup Pop Tarts (or simply HFCS Pop Tarts) but the marketing team at Kellogg's would not go for it.

The use of the word “real” lets moms know the pop tarts are wholesome, and strawberries conjure images of summer, nature and healthiness, so moms can feel good about buying these for their kids.

Interestingly, the label says, “Baked with Real Fruit!” so no specific claim is made regarding strawberries. The filling being made from strawberries is merely implied.

The frosted version is an abomination. The original, unfrosted Pop Tarts are the "real" (read, wholesome) products

Just look at the bottle labels on some of the tastier sounding fruit juice cocktails. A blueberry pomegranate concoction, for example, will have higher content of apple and grape juice than the two fruits they label in the product name.

It does not sound frivolous, considering how much effort these companies put into going after people and smaller companies whenever their business is impacted.

Didn't you sue the P.F. Chang's once for their "Chicken and Rice Bucket" not being an actual farm bucket?

And didn't they countersue for plumbing damage and moral and psychological abuse suffered by their janitor?

There are big companies coming after startups which sell almond milk, vegan cheese, or plant-based meat, claiming they are misleading names. Well, then if you have strawberry in your product name, and are as big as Kellogg, be prepared to justify it.
