Head Hawk Touch and Yonex Poly Tour Fire please.
@J011yroger
-hh.touch starts out crisp and then it gradually settles down a bit, but not much!, crisp all the way to the end IMO
-if I string hh.touch too tight, I would feel it the next day
-I preffer softer polys, like yptp, so hh.touch not my favorite,
-initially it reminded me of babo.rpm "crispness wise", but without the added spin of b.rpm
-the older h.hawk reminded me of topspin.cyber.flash, a "dry feel" copoly, not crisp, med power.. my old favorite!
That's some savage reviews. Any Yonex offering that tickles your fancy?Head Hawk Touch sucks hairy moose balls.
Yonex Poly Tour Fire plays pretty good at the beginning and then by the half way point you start praying to whatever gods you hold sacred that it breaks and puts you out of your misery.
Head rep said I'm the only person who didn't like Hawk Touch. I said they had a lot of chutzpah putting touch in the name since it felt like a bag of hammers.

How bout Kirschbaum max power/mp rough / proline 2?
Would also like to know your thoughts re: element Vs rs Lyon.

Also, wasn't it said Thiem (though Babolat) was using the Head experimental string? I can't remember if I actually read that or not lol

my only knock on hyper G is similar.... can be unpredictable at times.. doesn't have that super linear/predictable response.. so if they dialed that down and keeping the spin then it really is serious improvement. Now i am guessing this will be available/launched sometime over the next 20 years....Solinco Hyper G Rough:
I thought regular Hyper G was a good value no-nonsense string, so was interested in the rough version since everyone knows if it isn't rough it isn't fun.
First of all, the string is round and textured not square.
It feels really plasticy, so if that's a deal breaker for you then move along.
But... It hits the ball pretty good!
A tiny bit low on power at first but good bite and excellent control. My main knock on regular Hyper G was that it was a bit unpredictable, but this version is much more consistent and furthermore it plays the same for longer as opposed to the square string which is very grabby at first and then once you knock the edges off plays a bit different.
I played some very good ball with this string, no muss no fuss, what I put in I got out, and it was up to the task for whatever I brought. It doesn't have that Luxilon little bit extra but it also doesn't cost what Luxilon does.
The ball started to fly on me at the very end but it played great for 2/3 of its life and ok for the end.
Just an all around solid offering at a fair price.
This one gets the Jolly stamp of approval.

Tried out Luxilon Ace due to the high marks it got here and it might be my favorite of the bunch. Arguably the most spin I've seen and has an amazing feel. It's interesting after 20 years literally no one been able to replicate the Luxilon feel. My other racquet still has gut/bbo and even as a cross string it provides so much of that unique feel. Too bad Ace isn't lower priced, at that range I would think most people would rather pay a couple dollars more for Alu Power instead. Might have to do a side by side for myself as well.
Ace is going out of production![]()
Lots of strings are going to be consolidated under the Alu Power brand - there’s already a 1.15 mm Alu for sale on some European storesWhat!!!! I thought it was timo that was going out? Ace too???

It was Experimental mains and Hawk crosses: http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/inde...-strings-at-indian-wells.639430/post-13301942Yes, crossed with Hawk. He won IW with that setup. Can’t remember which one was in the mains.
Then at some point he switched to RPM power.
I'm keen to know what the blue Lynx Edge plays like. I've played a ton with regular green (and black) Lynx. If you can compare them please J that would be awesomeI have the bright blue Lynx to try also.

Yes, and looks fantastic too in V3 Angells.im loving element. not sure why i ever dicked around with anything else.
would prefer different colors, but i guess the bronze has a little bling to it

I don’t think it looks too bad as a cross for gut, kind of an old school vibe in the right racquet. I’ve been liking element lately too because it breaks before I need to cut it out and restring. The problem I was running into with ALU was that it would die before breaking now that I’m playing mainly mixed doubles with my wife. 2 doubles matches and a few hitting sessions with her in a week has been leaving me with dead VS touch/ALU Rough. My brain says that it has at least 6 hours left from never getting out of first gear, but my elbow has started to inform me otherwise. Element snaps before it goes dead for me so it’s one less thing to have to worry about.
The only other string I’m curious about and am going to try before committing to a new setup is Monogut ZX Pro.

Burgundy? Probably the shaped Yonex string. Poly tour spin g?There is a burgundy Yonex Poly that wasn't too bad.
Haven't used any Kirsch strings since SSS.
Element and Lyon are totally different. There is nothing Lyon does that Element doesn't do better.

Poly tour spin g?
I’ve just switched to Poly tour pro (1.25, yellow) for a test, and I’m very positive. Previously played with Tier1 black knight for a year.
Control is excellent, power is enough, topspin and slice are gently enhanced by the string, I’ve yet to test durability but I’m no stringbreaker. Depth control is also very good, a very good string at a very good price (in Europe)
It's not easy to give a proper answer as I've switched in the middle of a tournament. How is comfort compared to BK
Babolat RPM power.
For starters I'd like to say that I think regular RPM blast and the rough are much better strings than they get credit for on these boards, and I was excited to try this after being told that it was the string Thiem was trying out. I don't think it was, when strung up it was a bit dark, nice deep bronze color not champagne like.
The surface of the string was kind of grippy and rubbery like a ping pong paddle. Similar to Pacific Polyforce Xtreme.
Hitting mini and baseline it had a nice feel, grabbed the ball well, good control. The weird thing is that the strings stayed out of position after the hit, like a syn gut and required constant straightening.
Volleys were great, bolstered by the nice feel, just enough jump off the stringbed, and slices were nasty.
I tried to play some doubles with it, and noticed I wasn't getting a lot of curve on my serve when I went for the slice out wide; thought I was having an off day until I started doubling long. I hit a second serve perfectly and it went about 6" long, which was the straw that broke the camel's back. I switched back to my normal string and the ball dove down into the box, opposition said it was a night and day difference.
Later that day in groups I asked one of the other coaches to stand behind me and watch my serve. I hit three with the RPM Power and then grabbed a frame with Hyper G Rough and hit a serve. He said the difference was amazing, could see the ball shaking in the air with the HGR.
I continued to feel it out drilling and playing points and found it lacking when I tried to bend the ball out the side of the court.
This is probably a good string for a lot of people and a good hybrid candidate but the shortcomings at the top end of batspeed are deal breakers for me.
If you hit pretty flat, and want a good feeling string it's worth a shot, but if you prefer to bend the ball look elsewhere.

Curious if you've given Laserfibre Native Tour a try.Babolat RPM power.

I was part of the RMP Power playtest, and the line I quoted from you pretty much sums up my experience with it. Native Tour is a similar feeling string, but with a bit more spin, and less string movement (i.e., no straightening the strings after each stroke).
And lets be honest: The main reason for this reply is so I could post the image of the girl in the white bikini...
You would break it in under 6 hours. It is wonderful poly for folks moving from a syn but or multi...or older poly players that are looking for a nice soft ride .. Does this sound like poly for Jolly?
Yeah, I would definitely recommend the 16g for him. I’m more curious to hear his impression of the string in general. You would break it in under 6 hours. Waiting on Lynx Edge review (unless I missed it here somewhere). Have a friend who refuses to shut up about how awesome it is. Have to gauge using the J011ymeter first before I get a set myself. I'm just too lazy.
Hi J0lly, I know you are familiar with the Ultra Tour, and I have it currently strung up with Big Banger Ace at around 52lbs - did you find Ace to be low powered and maybe not as suited to get some more pop on the Ultra Tour? Even with added lead at 12 to compensate for the thin gauge I still felt that "output/input" discrepancy you described on your review, or maybe the tension needed to be lower? Spin was crazy good, though.
I'm thinking Alu Power as the natural complement to get the added pop on the UT, but can you think of any other string that might pair well with this frame?

Are you a string breaker? If not, maybe try ALU Power Feel or Flouro?
i use the UT. Kicking myself for not going ham on that lux sale for BF.Bought a good supply of regular Alu Power when they last went on sale, but I will keep that in mind when I run out!
