Jolly's Polys

Thanks Jolly. And how do you compare regular ALU vs ALU Spin? And ALU Rough? I want to get some direction on which one to try first.

They are all great. I like rough the most and spin the least. You knock the edges off the spin pretty quickly so the extra bite doesn't last long in the sweet spot then if you hit outside the sweet spot you have less power and more spin which could increase netting or hitting the ball short.

How long did it take for that to happen?

Hmmm, hard to say. I played a doubles match and then drilled for 45 minutes or an hour and it was fairly notched. It was kind of lame this morning but I played three sets of singles S&V and it was basically toast after.

I guess I shouldn't be too surprised as Hyper G is rather soft and you smack the crap out of the ball.

That is some serious testing. Have seen allot of players go around the world looking for the next best poly and they generally go back to Luxilon.
Hyper G have found to play well in the new line of Wilson racquets. Best thing we see about Hyper G is how easy it is on the arm. Like most good strings, after the first few hours of high level play you are playing with something different. No substitute for the first few hours. Have gotten to the point that $10 for 3hrs of play is better than $20 or $25 for Gut/poly.

Amazing that nobody can come out with a better string, BBO is over 25 years old and ALU is right on its heels.

Thank you for putting your results on here. I’m still hoping for that kind of performance at a better price. I cancelled my contract this year so it’s all out of pocket now.

All court, eastern forehand grip, OHBH, use the slice a good bit. Old school. RF97 Gut/poly is the best for my game but trying to simulate a little cheaper with multi/poly.

I actually prefer NRG2/ALU to Gut/ALU. It's not cheap, but it's cheaper than gut.

Best performance on earth for me is full ALU. Best performance per dollar is BBO mains and ALU crosses, nearly as good, more bite less pop a bit cheaper and lasts 3x as long.

You might like a full job of Pacific Polyforce Extreme, softest best volleying poly I have ever tried.

Those Technifibre strings are about the best multi. That poly combo may be something to try especially in my PS97’s which plays really well with all poly.

I started playing Wilson NXT tour then found out tecnifibre made that string for Wilson.

Great now you've got me talking about multis in my poly thread.

On a side note, did you try the purple 25th anniversary edition ALU? I bought a few sets (great sale right now at T Dubs on sets and reels both btw) but I just don't like it that much. Feels different. The grey/silver remains at the zenith of ALU glory in my opinion.

I bought a reel. Haven't tried it yet. Afraid to face the fact that I was bamboozled.

Done any testing with Wilson Revolve or Wilson Revolve Spin?. Using the smooth poly for a cross in hybrids but never played either full bed.

Revolve spin matched my Ltd. Blades nicely, but played like a generic shaped poly. I wouldn't call it bad, and $10 a set is a decent price, but you could find better poly strings in the same price range.

What racquet breaks with kev/ poly? Certainly all
My sticks would be broken

Is it some soft players frame like some radical head deal. Head is the only racquet I havent tortured with kev/poly at crazy tensions. Must be some noodle.

Or you just hit too much like POMO

We used to string Kevlar in the 80’s playing college tennis and it would pull through the grommet and break a peice out of the frame due to no stretch. If the string doesn’t stretch the racquet can fail and certainly fatigue over time. Shredded some shoulders as well including mine.

Thanks, strung up a couple of PS97’s in a hybrid with Revolve mains to train with some juniors in the morning. Seems to be ok hybrid.

More like bad racquet or grommet design. Racquets have improved since the 80s. The only time I ever had any issues with kevlar and 80 plus pounds was my own stupidity. It happened on a Profile. Getting grommets is a major challenge and i seriously thought the nylon tubing would perform like a grommet. Nope. Pulled right through sadly.

Since every racquet I string gets kevlar mains at 86lbs on a constant pull machine that I usually let pull for 20 sec, one would think i would have racquets failing all the time if it were a thing...

No one hits as hard as jolly...

How long does it take you to break Ashaway 16?

J

How long does that last?

J
No real idea. I always restring the crosses at least once changing the weave so it helps the mains last longer. Then at some point I cut it out and restring.

I dont really track how long it lasts in court hours.

Locked string beds dont last as long with kevlar. For instance full kevlar would break faster than kev/poly usually

So you don't even break the string? Why would your frames break?

Am I reading this right? You clip the crosses and restring only the crosses?

Of course. The key is to alter the cross weave so the new cross is on the other side of the main. This extends the life significantly and addresses any tension loss. People do it with gut mains too.

Why waste good main strings? It used to be that having a string bed be playable and last months was a good thing...

Def. A creative solution to a problem; and I see the reasoning, makes sense..
def, not for me, but like ive stated before, you like what you like!..

Oh! Obviously! That makes perfect sense. Do you tie your broken crosses back together too?
Yeah I know. Thats why I do it

Never tied strings together like that but there was a poster who did it on some main strings and posted a pict of the knot. Deadmans knot iirc

And you probably dont know this but kevlar plays better when it used than brand new so thats another reason to maximize its life.

You’re right, it’s like Ashaway gold.

I don't think so, but it's opinion.

J
I suppose it depends on the tensions and playing style. On my os racquets it never got better than the 1st 40 min. But on the kev/zx threads lots of people complaining about the 1st hour and how they liked it better after the 1st hour.

You never had it behave like ngut where it was playing its best right before it broke??

Oh and prestretching the kevlar helps it not have such a break in period
