Ok, good news; I didn't forget how to play tennis.

Hit with the Edge/Velo hybrid, it's ok but I either strung it a little too tight or it was due to it being chilly out.

I'll see how it settles in, but I thought full Lynx Edge was softer/more powerful so there is something very off.

For the record, full Lynx Edge was strung at 50# in my GPMP, the hybrid at 54# in the new Mid.

Also the Yonex Dry Grap is nice, but I will obviously have to test it further in warm weather where I actually sweat.

J
Velo is a nice budget multi, but its nylon so won't perform to JRs standards.

Regular supergrap already has a dry side, so guess this new OG is double dry?

Dry Grap is my new fav grip. The green flavor is a terrible color though.

Does it have Tourna’s durability? Meaning does it tear apart if I look at it funny?

Here is what I do to Lux Elite Dry (which is a bit better than Tourna in durability) after one good session in hot summers. Don't have the heart to show what I do to Tournas in the scorching heat.

You hold the grip with your fingers on the fat side? (Leather/cushion overlap)
I hold it the other war around, so that my palm is with the fat, cushioned side, while my fingers have something to grab and get a nice feel (yeahyeah, maybe TWSS)

I think you might be right. I wrap all my grips a certain way and have a favorite side I hit with. Never paid attention on the overlap like you are saying. Honestly, I just pick up racquets and play!

You must have incredible luck with Luxilon. I’ve bought that grip on two different occasions and had it shred within the first hour of play, which has never happened with Tourna.

That's interesting. I playtested it for TW first, and then used up a 12 pack as well which I purchased in the summer last year on sale. Durability was definitely better for me compared to Tourna every time. Tourna just starts tearing up as soon as it starts getting moist whereas Elite Dry starts rubbing off and becoming fuzzy but still doesn't tear.

That said, because we have 8 months out of the year indoors under controlled temp, I much prefer Wilson Pro or Tec Pro Contact type of tackier grips usually. Last longer for me as well.

Good overgrip discussion. I bought some Yonex Dry but waiting until its 80+ degrees. Im generally not a fan of dry grips because my hands dont get that sweaty - one time I sprayed water on my hands to make regular Tournagrip usable. Ive been trying a lot of different grips and right now my fave tacky grip is the Technifibre ATP. 2a and 2b are Yonex Supergrap and Vökl Super Grip II. For cold/indoor conditions I like the Tourna Mega Tac.

A few of my observations/annoyances about overgrips...

I really wish manufacturers would stop pressing their brand name into the grip because then the plastic overwrap gets gunked up into it and its f'ing annoying trying to rub it off. Who in the hell is going to see your logo on a grip anyway? The tape at the top should be enough. Points to Yonex and Tourna in this category.

Also, white grips seem to have the tackiest feel to me - I had some Technifibre black grips and they were crap compared to the white (who knows, maybe they had just been sitting for a long time). Also, the colored overgrips can discolor your regular grip if its not black.

I also dont understand why Tourna doesnt at least precut the initial taper on their grips - almost everyone else does. Extra points for the Vökl Super Grip II in this department because they are tapered and both ends and always seem to be the perfect length.

Dry grap is kinda in between super grap and Tourna in a way, I haven’t had any issues with tearing or shredding. Like I said it’s now my grip of choice after I have tried quite a few. Used to like the tacky grips but now I like more dry-ish. The dry grap is a great in between. I was also testing the Volkl V Dry which is also good but doesn’t seem to last as long but it’s also a pretty solid grip.

Both of the above are better. Lynx Edge is softer and more powerful than BK, softer than GF, has less bite than either. GF is the best of the three but breaks VERY quickly, BK is dollar for dollar the greatest string on Earth.

Thank you. I tried grey fire again today against the wall... It's very very good indeed. I would say Alu kind of good.

Anyone tried laserfibre laser smooth? I am looking for a poly that has a little more spin and durability than RPM power, which is my string of choice now.

Someone tossed me a 30 pack of Tourna Tac. I always say "If it's free it's for me, I'll take three"--- but I'm finding that I'm coming to like the Tac. I've always played SuperGraps by choice and it took me a couple plays to get used to it but it's pretty good. They rip within the time it takes to warm-up in my major contact zones and it looks like my stik has the urpolies but the control/feel/grip is still overall there thanks to the rest of the tac. They last about 4-5 play sessions which is pretty good for me and it becomes a battle of, "how ugly will I let this get". I have them on my beach tennis racquets too and they survive the sand/sun/lotion. To be fair the torsion isn't the same but overall I was pleasantly surprised.

What the hell does this mean? Sounds like everybody's criticism of tourna.

Talking about using the grip on my beach tennis frames. Beach tennis is super quick and high volume of hits/volleys but it's exactly that, volleys. No big looping forehands with top spin which would torque the grip in your hand making it rip. The most topspin you'll see is on a serve and it's with the half-pressure tennis balls.

Noice!! Not really on the radar yet in Aus; I guess we just don't have enough coastline? (25,760 kilometers lol!)
Maybe in Manly or Surfers - more beach volleyball though if anything.

hmm..we used to play a long time ago a beach racquet game with solid wooden racquets and a real tennis ball and no net. We would hammer shots at each other and keep the ball off the sand but no net. Super fast and required excellent reactions so much faster then beach tennis

My experience with the JR2 when I actually played a few weeks ago was very good! I’ve been quite enamored with the Blade 98S and to the surprise of no one, on the spin effect pattern the 1.25 gauge alu was cutting into the BBO pretty heavily. Once I could start playing again and break these strings, I may try a “reverse JR2” with alu mains and BBO crosses which I think can work out well on a 18x16 and once I use up my supply of 1.25 alu, perhaps I will look into just going full bed of the thicker gauge alu.

Tier One Black Knight final impressions:

Wow. I'm prepared to dub this string the dollar for dollar, pound for pound best string on Earth.

It's the only shaped poly I have ever played that got better as it broke in.

Initially I thought I should have strung it a few lbs looser than normal but after half an hour it settled in nicely and I was getting some nice jump off the stringbed and a controlled, even response.

The deadness and excessive bite wore off and it just played very nicely for a good long time.

I hit with it for a bit over an hour and the mains were hardly notched and I thought this stuff might last forever but then I noticed that the crosses were looking might thin.

I can't for sure say how long it lasted before breaking because I only used it here and there but it certainly held up for a good long while. Better durability than 15g Hyper G I would say for sure.

If you are a baller on a budget this string is a must try.
