Jolly's US Open videos.

Nice footage, throws it quite far into the court, but you can see how much his body goes into the serve, i bet he gets alot of pace from that.

Great footage!

And I agree with @Dragy , Del Potro did not hit a kick serve there, maybe he does hit it but in that particular footage he throws the ball very into the court and also his swingpath is more into the court, and the ball also doesn't have the arc and spin it seems of a really good kick serve, looks more of a topspin slice.

Good job @J011yroger. Would you agree DelPo's second serve is pretty drivy top-slice, not a kicker? The racquet swings much more through the ball than Querry's cutting thinny.

Ya, more a hard topspin than a true kick. Not very slicey as you notice the finish has the racquet face pointing towards the back fence.

Tried to get some serve video on the baseline to judge toss depth into the court and from behind to judge location and swing path.I'll be uploading them tonight.J

Thanx a lot! If youre taking requests I would love Fed's serve-warmup from along the baseline with, if anything, a focus on his legdrive. :)
Cheers!

OP, thanks for sharing - good stuff. I hope you can get out for some live fire during the tournament.

The official app has Practice listed as an option under Schedule- no clue if it’s updated or accurate. At many tournaments the schedule isn’t accurate - the players change their minds.
Cool, thanks I'll check that out!

One other thing someone told me at some tournament - some players post their practice plans on their Twitter or FB acts - so if you’re interested in a few players, follow them.

Also if you can get there before the gates open, talk to people in line - usually someone knows something. Good luck, enjoy.

Awesome thanks, will do. I've always been to the later rounds, this is my first time to the early rounds so looking forward to some good practice sessions

No worries. Feel free to ask for more.:p

Thanx for playing Curious. Those are excellent videos but are examples of Feds "full-on" serves.

I apparently need to clarify my "request".

"Fed's serve-warmup from along the baseline".

Since what I am after is good video from that angle of his legs during his progressive serve-varmup where he goes from step-serve with sidearm swing to his full motion. There's a few of those shot from the "behind-the-player"-angle but Ive scoured teh interwebz for video showing his complete serve-warmup from along the baseline without luck so that's what I was hoping @J011yroger might be able to provide.

Yeah, sure. It was just a joke. But why are you interested in that particular thing? What do you wanna see?

Did you see this one?

about 15 minutes in he starts warming up serves.

ENjoyed the videos Jolly! For me, they highlight how far into the court they toss the ball

I think I know what you are looking for. There are back angel fottage of his warm up serves. He basically starts the toss even with feet still inside the baseline and set in the trophy position properly. I don’t think he bent the legs much if at all in those. Nor I know if there are side angle fottage.

Starts from 7.20.

I'd like to watch the progression of his leg-drive from the first "step-into-sidearm-whip-Fed" to "full-on-shoulder-over-shoulder-Fed".
Every video Ive found is either partial, zooming in and out so you miss a few steps in the progression or, like the one above, a couple of 80%ers.
I suspect he is doing something magical with his leg drive (kinetic chain), which may be impossible to derive from video, but good quality video from that wonderful angle jolly had in the Querrey vid would at least give me a shot to see if Im onto something or if it's just a crap theory.
:)

My talent and perfectionism make up for my lack of ambition.

Hmmm ok. I didn't get it. Anyway, why is watching his full serve in normal and slow motion in hundreds of videos not enough to figure it out?

I can do the thing Ive seen at 10% and I can approximate it att full-on but I havent managed to really get the feel for it which is why having the whole progression in one go would be preferable.
Ideally nude or in speedos because it would make it easier to observe muscle-activation.
Fortunately, even Fognini seems unlikely to practice in speedos although he does pop up frighteningly often if you search for "tennis+serve+shirtless"...
If anyone would pay for the lab-time and convince Fed to cooperate I could properly research my idea but I doubt either of us have the time.
