Be interesting to see all the final stats from this match. It was pretty high quality, despite the 2 MTO's. There were definitely a ton of winners from both players.

Del Potro has proved what we knew all along, that his movement is spotty on grass and that Nadal is #1 for a reason. But admittedly, I'm surprised how much fight Del Po had in him, he certainly played much better than I originally anticipated. A good match by him, he had some chances in the first that he didn't take but a better match played by Rafa who put up some astounding stats. Surely anyone who isn't a Rafa fan at the very least acknowledges how awesome his footwork was today

By the way, if The umpire did not grant the MTO at that time, then they play the tie breaker, then Nadal wins it, do you guys still complain this much?

I'm not talking about Nadal here but Delpo, Murray is the toughest match-up for Delpo on tour, I don't think Delpo would have beaten him on grass even playing the way he did today.

I think people need to remember that the players themselves don't claim injuries, but discomfort. It's other people that claim it to be an injury. As a player if you feel discomfort it's only right that you should check it out asap as to not aggravate whatever that discomfort is...innit?

Amazing match...the 1st set was probably the most drama-filled set I've ever seen: top-level play from both players, an injury to Nadal that could have been very serious, and a tiebreaker that changed tides to give the opening set to Nadal.
In my opinion, both players did equally well, except that Nadal's better play edged out Del Potro in the two tiebreakers. Who knows...if Del Potro had a little better success in one of those, we could have been seeing a 5-set match!

DelPo has gotten a lot better on the surface, his serve/volley game improving even more to the point where he can anticipate the second volley if he needs to hit one will be key to him becoming one of the top contenders there in the future, it was nice to see him eager to move forward rather than stay camped at the baseline and his volley technique is great for both punching and dropping.

Exactly. The MTO is to make sure that any niggling problems the players experience during a match are treated promptly and effectively. It ensures that the match will be high-quality for the fans while also protecting the players' health.

how come xisca never gets to privilidge to sit in front row like other girlfriends? always last priority when the gang is there.

Have some damn respect both he and Delpo played through tough injury scares and still put on an awesome match. You're just a sour puss because your worried that Quentin Federer won't be able to beat him after his struggle with an over the hill Youzhny. LOL.
Why don't you have faith in your man? What's the problem? Rafa has match up issues with Delpo and I know he couldn't have played better than that and still lost. Delpo blasts the ball and hit only 21 UE's and 44 Winners, it's probably one of the cleanest matches he played in his life. Rafa played phenomenal and deserves credit for toughing it out.
He gets called a pusher yet he hit 61 Winners and only 16 UE's despite being in obvious pain. Give him some damn credit for that at least instead of being a smart arse, or do you want to start telling me about how Fed's back injury magically went away in 2003 WIM?

Postmatch: Nadal says that the foot still hurts. He thought of retiring in set 1. But the pain went down a little with the tape, and he tried to continue.
Says that he needs to check with the doctor tomorrow, because he's worried about the bone of the foot.

Dunno whether Nadal will be able to continue the rest of the tournament. I think this is one time when cortisone injections are justified.

^^ This could be deja vu, Nadal's foot problem of late 2005, which at one time was very very serious. Nike+ designed him custom shoes for it.

Nadal told the interviewer that his foot pain eased a bit after he got treatement, but that there is defintely something there and he needs to get it checked.Never know what it could be.

Del Potro's volley skills were meh at best this match IMO, there were some Fed-like kamikaze net charges that seemed too obvious to Nadal. On the appropriate net charges, Nadal just knew when to force Del Potro to hit a low volley for an easy put away. Del Po very hit or miss at the net today; some good hits but also some pretty bad misses

And she is truly the low key of low keys. I've never seen anyone who looked so much like a model that was that low key (with the exception of one of my mountain-climbing friends).
Well given the stats the "injury" or as I call it minor discomfort didn't affect him for more than few points. Nadal was doing amazing gets and was serving well and had very few errors.
I think Sampras won in 1999 with an actual ankle problem. Nadal has a minor boo boo. Relax everyone. This is no worse than banana incident at FO.

it was quite painful to watch that mto. how the doc was saying "it is unusual" and rafa agreed. you could see his face was like "oh lawd what now? something new!" If he has to pull out he has to pull out. In the long run not risking it is the best option.- Status
