Junkballer?

Is Hassaan a junkballer?

Interesting matchup. For the poll, mostly a junk baller, but he has traditional strokes as well. But slicing and bouncing the ball low is a good strategy against an opponent with an extreme grip like Kevin has on his forehand. He also had a lot of issues with his forehand volley (also common with people with western forehands), so bringing him to net not a bad strategy either. So my guess is that MFP is a junk baller when it benefits him.

Hassaan knows how to win. Simple as that. Kevin has good strokes, but function beat form. Kevin has a higher ceiling.

I think your former and latter comments are spot on.

It's odd to me I guess when people specifically focus on strokes as real tennis, where knowing how to win using fitness, movement, anticipation, placement, and having great court IQ are all part of the game but diminished somehow. Hassaan learned how to win with everything but those 'real' tennis strokes. What triggers so many folks is how glaringly obvious it is they are not as good at tennis as whole when they lose. Not Kevin because he had good reflection and awareness, which is a better path than those who just ignore losing to better players and complain about strokes.

But having more developed strokes and being able to build all the other stuff as Kevin has been, I do think it allows that higher ceiling.

Kevin is already the better player he has higher UTR. He also mentions how he previously pretty easily beat players who beat Hassaan so it checks out. This was a match up issue where Kevin’s rally ball suited Haassan and his net game wasn’t good enough.

The killer here is Hassaan warms up with 'normal' topspin FHs and inside-out BHs. Choosing then to play only slices in the game is almost saying: 'I'm not going to try and win any point, I'm just going to frustrate you'.

Kevin needs to develop an inside-out FH to finish mid-court balls, because his regular top-spin FH is too weak. He's putting too much spin on the FH, which is why, as well as dumping loads of volleys into the net, he dumped loads of rally balls too.

ok the vote is overwhelmingly junk....

my apologies for calling such player(s) games garbage lol... according to GPT4

"Junk" and "garbage" are related but not identical in meaning, as they are used in slightly different contexts:

  • Junk refers to items that are considered useless, outdated, or of little value but may not necessarily be waste in the traditional sense. For example, old furniture, broken electronics, or clutter in a garage can be referred to as "junk." Some junk may still be reusable or recyclable.
  • Garbage typically refers to waste that is discarded as refuse, often associated with things like food scraps, packaging, or other household waste destined for disposal. It has a more specific connotation of being trash with no potential for reuse.
In summary, "junk" may still hold some value or potential for repurposing, while "garbage" usually refers to waste that is meant to be thrown away.

gosh those warm up fh/bh's are thing of beauty... I'd rate them slightly under @sureshs fh/bh..

what does that mean?

also I wonder if the beard is a give away? I mean during the warm up dude was trying to hide the junkness but the beard was a flashing warning sign - junk incoming!
Hassan does not have the instinct to place the ball like the GSG

no idea if the same hassan, but on utr, there is a match showing kl v h.. where h is higher utr

Ok I don’t pay for UTR so couldn’t check their exact ratings. In the video though Kevin said Hassan is between 7-8 UTR so I assumed it was lower than 8+ but I was mislead by that. I guess they are close in rating so maybe before the match was played Kevin had the higher UTR?

If you can hit conventional high-topspin shots plus junkball on demand when your opponent doesn’t like junk, then you are a formidable competitor.
Or the opposite of hit all junk but then conventional high-topspin shots on demand when your opponent really likes junk.
maybe... but without the lefty advantage it's a tough way to make a living in the 4.5s.
Can we use this same logic to invalidate Nadal's slam count pretty please.

why did Uncle Tony made rafa play left. the entire high heavy top play style falls apart if Rafa played rightie. would need a complete different game style.

I’d pay to watch a Hassan vs @GSG match. Who else would?

it's gonna be ugly as hell. junkers actually hate to play other junkers lol because there is no pace to feed into their own shots.. every point will be 50 shots long, or someone finally can't take it anymore trying to generate pace and neither can.

not to distort what Fed said but his first point was movement... you can extrapolate and see why MEP/MFP is making a living in the 4.5s
