Just can't get into Djokovic!

Just watched the Djokovic match and it was clinical efficiency again. The guy has my up most respect but I just don't enjoy watching him. All the greats over the years I have been watching at Wimbledon, i.e Edberg, Becker, Macenroe, Sampras and Federer have been a joy to watch for me. I mean christ, I even used to enjoy watching Henman! but I just don't get that enjoyment watching Djokovic. He is ruthlessly efficient but I find his style of play so boring to watch and I just can't get into him.

When they have all hung their racquets up, he may well end up top of the pile in terms of slam wins and therefore in all fairness would have to be considered the GOAT.

But for me personally there probably won't ever be a player I enjoy watching more than Roger Federer.
For me, comparing Federer and Djokovic is a bit like comparing Messi to Ronaldo. Ronaldo and Djokovic are ruthlessly efficient at what they do but Messi and Federer continually do things that make my jaw drop.

I just can't see anybody beating Djokovic at Wimbledon this year and I find it all quite depressing. Would love Federer to win it but if not, it would be quite nice to see a new guy break through and win it. Another Djokovic victory is just gonna be so bloody boring!

I really don't think I could cope with him beating Federer in a final again. Think I would stop watching tennis!

It took me some time for his play to grow on me, so I can see where you're coming from. While I disagree with you I don't really have a counter-argument for this as it's just a matter of different tastes.

Another Djokovic victory would be stunning actually.

I personally like watching him trying to solve any opponent. Winning a lot or not is secondary. And whether someone else appeals more to the masses is not something I care about...

Actually after federer, djokovic grass game is the most joy to watch, very smooth

Fed and nole on grass show their true talent and smoothness

I will always prefer Federer but I get why someone enjoys Novak too. He is so good at nearly everything. I don't mind wasting an hour or two on his match occasionally.

As I said once before, words like depressing are way too strong for a sports outcome. They all work incredibly hard to reach the same goal, and I admire that a lot...

Your emotions get in the way of u objectively seeing his game
Novak is many things, but "efficient" is not one of them.

He's gotten better about it in recent times, but he still works hard for his points.

I prefer players with weapons like Opelka, Karlovic, or Nadal. All-round good players are all right, but I need to see someone who can do something which no one else can.

Yeah, it's not really about arguements or being right or wrong. I'm really trying to get to the bottom of why I don't enjoy watching an ATG. Its stupid really but despite his greatness I just don't enjoy watching him and always want him to lose. In fact the only time I've routed for him was the Wimbledon semi final last year against Nadal as victory blocked Nadal from getting closer to Federer's slam count. I thought we had seen the back of him after his injury and repeated losses when he first came back.

It's not really about Federer.

It's about a major sport potentially having as its GOAT someone who is a machine-like entity, with a disgusting personality. Yeah great example for the young kids growing up today wanting to be tennis stars (if there still are any).
Wtf are u talking about

I guarantee,if u would spend a week with each of the big 3 djokovic would be the guy which personality u would like the most

But of course,u not objective,making **** up

I rather suspect I would get on with Federer the best.

We are both GOATs at what we do, after all.

All those players you named play attacking tennis, come to the net more often barring Federer. Henman was one of the last true serve and volleyer.
It seems you like that style of play and miss it very much. But that style of play was killed by organisers who slowed the court down.
I don't like Djokovic play either - too much of a robot. Difficult to get behind someone who plays that style.

Its depressing that as a tennis fan, I can't warm to a player who may well end up GOAT.
Depressing is finding out somebody you would never vote for in a million years is your next President. That's something that actually affects your life, not sports and who ends up on top. I can't stand the New England Patriots with a passion but accept that they and Brady are probably the best to ever to do it. No matter who becomes the greatest it doesn't affect you one way or another, and if you don't enjoy Djokovic it doesn't matter anyway because you already have a favorite that you do enjoy. Frankly, Djokovic's game is textbook especially for his baseline oriented era. So if someone says he's too boring or machine like, it sounds like that is their coping mechanism for dealing with the fact that the horse they have backed for years may not end up on top like they originally thought. It's really not that deep.

It was depressing when Nadal broke down injured against Wawrinka at AO14. I'd consider the term appropriate for that performance.

Not sure Its fair to judge his personality unless you actually know him. He comes across ok to me.

Yes fully agree. Ok depressing not quite the right word to use. Of course, the outcome of a sporting event should not effect your life

What a smug post, with several wrong assumptions.

Sportspeople may not directly affect policies like Presidents or leaders, but they inspire millions to lead lives of greater health, athleticism and virtue - something that Novak Djokovic simply isn't cut out for.

And again, you appear (with your last two sentences) to be one of those small-minded individuals who cannot believe that anyone would dislike Novak Djokovic for a reason other than "he might end up better than Federer". No, it goes far beyond those two people - it goes to the heart of what a GOAT in any sport should be. Of course all major sports have had efficient, machine-like, detestable champions (Lendl in tennis, Schumacher in F1, Liverpool in football, etc.) but none have ended up being GOAT in their sports.

Novak Djokovic being GOAT of a major sport would be a tragedy for sure.

Pff

And u seem to be the judge of everything, let us all ask you who and what should be

The guy who had it the hardest, survived a war, poverty, sacrifices all to be successful at tennis should be considered as tragedy if he gets the goat status?

The guy is ****ing gandi of tennis

Novak can do that to people.

His game can be appreciated only against other greats, where he's forced to go outside his comfort zone.

You're obviously a Novak Djokovic fan and don't understand the seriousness of my point.
I completely understand. You are having a rough time lately.

But don't worry. Tennis will not descend into tragedy zone, whether Novak wins more than everyone else or not.

You're obviously a Novak Djokovic hater and you don't understand the silliness in your comments. Maybe one day you will...

Dang it's too bad I'm not at my PC because this deserves a gif. No pun intended but it's funny because you are actually not joking. Lmao. A tragedy? Let's cue the violins from Macbeth and bring out some ointment for whatever it is you are suffering from.

Nothing more disgusting than pompous, never retiring, self centered, everything about him, crybaby, vulture of every possible weak field opportunity sport has gave him in last 15 years, so called GOAT. What exactly young kids can learn from that egomaniac ?

Attacks? Lmao. I think that's what you attempted but it made me laugh instead of the opposite effect. I guess you will provide entertainment on this site if Novak Djokovic winning tennis matches causes these type of meltdowns. You need an outlet.

I don't see how Djokovic isn't cut out for that. He's stuck to a strict diet for years, he's probably one of the most athletic on the tour (speed and flexibility), he's learned upwards of 8 languages, and he's often quite a funny guy. He's quite a role model. Of course, not to say Federer isn't, but that's mostly agreed upon (some may call him arrogant, but all of the Big 3 are.)

You can call him machine-like, but not detestable. He's efficient at winning and machine-like in his execution. But this is because he sees what he needs to do to win the point, then does it. Federer also plays this game of tactics, but he does it with a less baseline-oriented game, and suddenly he's no longer efficient or machine-like.

The parallels between Novak and Roger are big. Those that can't see them are ignoring them.

I preferred watching him when he was a ball basher who hit big on FH before 2012.

Since 2014 I agree it’s been boring watching this robot who hits with such great precision/depth but has literally no one to challenge him apart from Wawrinka once in a blue moon.
