Just one question, Where was Toni?

I noticed that this entire week at Indian Wells, that Nadal was without his coach, does anyone know where he was? Obviously Nadal didn't fire him, he is family, was he sick?

Traditionally Tio Toni never travels to Indian Wells for this tournament at this time of the year. He wasn't there in 2009 or 2010 also.

But yeah, it was a alarming match from Nadal today with the worst serving performance of his career. Toni was needed to help his charge.

Hopefully it's not the beginning of something that could eventually be a serious problem..

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but don't Toni and Sebastian (Rafa's dad) co-own a restaurant back home? If so, that's probably where he was.

Sebastian owns the Mallorcan window glass business, I've never heard of a restaurant. But he needed Toni today for the in match coaching Wtf, Can't believe the ATP would let Toni skip...
 
i believe tony was back in spain and nadal was coached by some guy that they even interviewed during the match but i ve never seen him before.

i feel like many players dont take indian wells seriously, lots of laughing and quitting on the courts. nadal/lopez vs fed/waw wasnt a die hard match, nadal was laughing towards the end same for the final
nadal wasnt hitting as usual and neither was fed
ya no they make 1 mill just by showing up so they re taking it easy haha
 
Uncle Toni was MIA at IW because he is mixing up a new batch of "energy juice" for Rafa for Miami! :)

Doubles is different than singles, doubles you try to keep your partner in good spirits, so they don't get too down when they are missing, or whatever adversity they face. Also, singles players don't take doubles too seriously anyways, different than singles, they take the singles very seriously....

It was Francisco Roig, who's been Rafa's traveling coach (and occasional pre-M. Lopez doubs partner) since at least 2008.

Chris Fowler mentioned during the broadcast that Tony does not usually do the IW-Miami swing with Rafa, he takes time off between the AO and clay season to tend to business and family at home.
