Just some observations on the Venus match...

Venus played a great first set. I was thinking, wow she is really hitting the ball hard and not missing. I was just thinking to myself that she was hitting the ball harder than Davenport and Pierce.....however, I think Venus was kind of thrown off by the how the young teen carried herself....she appeared to be cocky and arrogant at times even when she was losing....since the start of the 2nd set Venus was just looping balls in....I don't know what happened. She goes from playing really well smacking winners and coming forward in the first set and then really subdues in the 2nd set. Even in the 3rd set she was not playing her game! Venus was just hitting error after error....one thing I noticed that when things were tight, Venus was trying to play long rallies........I think even though she was way off that she should've gone for broke when it got really close...because all she was doing was missing and complicating things even more....

Despite her terrible play, I just knew Venus would step it up in the end...and get through....and ultimately work on her game on the practice courts....however, she wilted. I was just hoping she would think about Wimbledon....

Err Oh well......at least she won Wimbledon...

More Williams whining

"It happens to the best of us," Williams said. "I had so many unforced errors, I struggled to keep the ball in. I just couldn't get it right -- she benefited from my largesse.

"If I had just one-third less errors, this match is a different story."

typical loser coment from VW. No credit to winner, just, IF I HAD JUST...
well, she didn't. ANOTHER embarassing loss.

You're leaving out the first part of that quote....

She played well in Istanbul and she played very well today. She really did. Obviously, managed to play a little bit better. Actually, I mean, I had so many unforced errors, I just was struggling to keep the ball in today. Just couldn't get it right. Obviously, she benefitted from my largesse.

Here's another

I think she's really ‑‑ like I said, I think she's a very good player. She's a very good player.

I'm not saying that Venus is the best at respecting her opponents - clearly she's had a history that shows otherwise - but she did make nearly 70 unforced errors in three sets, and still could've won the match. I think in this case she clearly beat herself....

Here's an observation: When I was observing Venus and the Bulgarian play I could not help but...ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Too bad you feel asleep, PM, it was a great match. 9-7 in the third, doesn't get much more exciting.

It was a strange match! Venus made a solid start and was even S&V which made a refreshing change from her typical baseline bashing in the 1st set. I actually enjoyed her tennis in that 1st set. Then all of a sudden she had this look in her eye; it was a look of fear. Then suddenly her opponent started gaining confidence even though she was down in the score. It was then that i saw Venus feeling her thigh which had strapping and i just sensed that it was gonna be a tough day at the office for the Wimbledon champ.

It was bad luck for Venus but i am sure she will boune back.

Even in the 3rd set she was not playing her game! Venus was just hitting error after error...

How many matches have we read about the tons of errors and sloppy play of Venus Williams? Her she is at almost 26 and the errors are still as plentiful as ever with her. That's why she is not even CLOSE to a top 10--even top 15 female player of all time. The errors are so pitiful to watch with her. She has not improved at all in four years. She gutted out a great win at Wimbledon, to her credit. But, basically, she has not been a top 5 women's player for 4 years. She should be getting better--especially technically and with shot selection. She hasn't. In fact, for most of her play since '01, she's actually gotten worse. That's a bad testimony to how she and her family have managed her career. Venus has herself to blame for all the terrible losses of recent years.

The Williams sisters are streaky players, something we can all relate to. They have the talent to win slams, but eveything needs to be in place: health, mental focus and a couple of weeks where their strokes are clicking. Kind of like Safin.

I knew once I saw that thigh strapped in a practice photo on Thursday, that it would be a long week. Did you see the way she was walking???

Well, she will always be better and richer than you, moron

There is no doubt that she will easily kick your asss if you play against her

It's so much easier to talk and talk than walk the talk

Venus is UNFIT and UNSEASONED. So she lost to someone who wanted it more.

Serena was lucky Li wasn't a fraction mentally stronger or she'd be out too.

At least Serena looked like she really wanted it.

What's your point? What the hell do you even know about the game? You know nothing about me or my game.

The point of forums like this knucklehead is that people can express their OPINIONS of players. That is why it is a PLAYERS discussion forum nitwit. When your favorite football team loses and plays poorly (or any athlete that you like), make sure you don't criticize them at all. After all, they could beat the crap out of you--so how dare you say anything negative. Your logic, your replies and you yourself are a complete waste of space and point to your own stupidity. You bring nothing so shut the hell up.

Here's the end of her interview and then she just stomped out..speaks for itself
<snip>
Q. Is this result an indication that no one's safe in women's tennis now, particularly in the first week of a Slam?

VENUS WILLIAMS: I think this result is an indication that you cannot make 70 unforced errors and expect to win a match. That's pretty much what it is.

Q. Why should we believe that you'll be back to where you were?

VENUS WILLIAMS: Well, I think that at the end of the day, I don't care if you believe or anyone else believes in here, because it's me. So believe what you want to. There's always going to be nay sayers. You may be one of them, I don't know. Guess what, I don't care.
