Justine just the sparks remain, the fire has waned...

What was to see after the fabulous comeback of Justine doesnt justify a comeback...Her tennis quality is a shadow of what it was and the fire in her racquet is gone...just some sparks of a fire which is turning out...
I find that if she doesnt win any of the small tournaments before Roland Garros and Wimbledon she shouldnt even think about playing in those major events...she should make her bags and return home....It is sad to say but she is damaging herself trying to be what she was and cant be anymore...her moment of glory has passed on....

Here's some fun facts... Justine has amassed over 2000 points in only 4 tournaments.

If she plays 16 total tournaments this year and scores the same average number of points per tournament as she did in her first 4, that comes out to over 8000 points.

Guess where that would put her in the rankings? (hint: it's higher than #2).

Yeah, it's been an awful start to a comeback for Henin.

In the WTA, the belgians are the most exciting players to watch right now. Thank god they came back when women's tennis was quite boring.

She's ranked 23 after playing four tournaments, made the finals in Brisbane and Melbourne and semis in Miami, losing tight matches to Clijsters and Serena. Not that bad.

Actually I never thought her road back to the top would be easy, check this thread and the interesting article I posted in it:

I would say something about the OP but its not cool making fun of people with special needs.

This is not the 1st comment coming from the OP. It's pretty clear she's totally against athlete coming back from retirement in ANY sport. In fact, no one has the right to return after choose to retire. Not just sport, but any occupation, community service, etc..

She lost twice narrowly (TB in 3rd set) to current slam title holder Clijsters.
Had she won those two matches she would have 2 titles in her first 4 tournaments.
Her tennis quality is surprisingly good after a two-year break.

She has several great years still in her.
More than the Willy sisters for sure.

haha, well put my friend. I agree with you wholeheartedly.... Henin is doing just fine.

Sure she's lost a couple of matches, but they were big time matches, very close, the kind of matches that hinge on a couple of points here or there. With a little bit more time on the court, she's gonna find her rythym, her confidence, etc and those are going to start going her way more often than not.

Go Justine!!

Just dont forget how INCREDIBLE Kim is playing. I think that Henin has been absolutely incredible on her own comeback. Everyone just needs to give her a little time. Her game was based on timing as she is not that strong. It's still all coming back.

have faith.

Justine has lost to the eventual champion in every tournament she has played this year, that is not so bad really, twice to Kim (granted she used to own Kim but Kim seems to have overcome the mental demon that was Justine), and she lost to Serena. All of her loses went to 3 sets, and if she is so terrible and can still take a set of the current world number 1 in a slam final what does that say about the current world number 1? Speaking of Kim she didn't win any tournaments before she won the US Open, guess she shouldn't have played. If Serena doesn't win any clay court tournaments should she just pack it in and not show for the french. Serena never plays Grass Tennis other than Wimbledon, Venus neither, yet they have all but 2 of the Wimbledon's played since 2000.

As for the argument of "if she doesn't win a tournament before the french she may as well quit" I guess the french will only have like, 12 competitors at most if everyone who doesn't win a tournament should just pack it up and quit, using that same logic after Elena thrashed Serena in Sydney this year Serena shouldn't have played the Australian Open.

If Justine's fire is completely gone I don't think she would have made the Australian final, yeah she had chances to get knocked out, so did Serena, yet both made the final. As much as both got lucky at some point in their matches they both must have also been doing something good enough to get the win. Luck is part of it, both have had a lot of it, but maybe there is something to the whole champions good fortune argument.

By the way OP...remind me how the amazing Wozniacki is doing this year...oh yeah she hasn't won a title yet either...she should just pack it in to I guess.

Welcome Back Justine, you have put some life back in womens tennis, which i had pretty much quit watching, good to see Kim Clijsters back as well, I can see the rust but even so you are beating the best in the world.

Marpiw just the constant Green smileys remain, the objectivity has waned...

Why does anyone care what her "legacy" would be? She would take being #10 in the world for 2-4 years if she could pull off just one Wimbledon singles title.

I am glad to see her back. It would be funny to see her or anybody really drive Serena into another tirade at a slam.

It’s unlikely there will be another tirade b/c she’s on probation, but it’s great to see the Belgians back to push Serena around. They denied Serena one of the 2 GS in their first GS event.

She's responsible for my favorite match this year (including men's matches!) against Dementieva at the AO. That alone is worth the comeback. Go Henin!

although I was rooting for Elena that was some match

I was rooting for Elena too, I thought she was outstanding in that match and while it ended in straight sets it could have easily been straight sets for Elena. However, one can appreciate the greatness Justine brought to that match, she forced Elena to play her variety game (something Elena did quite well and should do more often) and both had some great points at the net, baseline, aggressive winners, tons of variety in their shots, it was a spectacular match, just as good as a great men's match and easily the best match I've seen this year.

Justine lost to a nobody at Indian Wells.

Hopefully she wins the FO, otherwise.....

She doesn't need to win anything this year.
To expect from her to win a slam just 5 months after her return from a 2-year break is too much. She will establish herself in the top 4 this year.
And probably take over the women's game in 2011-14.

If all that's left are the sparks and she can make finals, the others must be pretty bad.

The tour is really bad. And unfortunately, if Henin doesn't win RG, it's because she beats herself. I hope the Williams will manage to prevent her from winning Wimbledon though.

It just shows how much stock people put into people. Justine is a great champion, always was, always will be. Still, it has to take some time to get back confidence wise, and being able to pick the right shot at the right time. She's got mass skills. Justine will get back where she belongs shortly. Stay tuned.
