Kerber to Andreescu: you're the biggest drama queen ever"

You have got the right idea, this is a potential gold mine, possibly bigger than Riggs/King.

We have to add a bit of showbiz to make it really take off, Riggs understood that.

I have an idea....the right costumes are essential.

Let's start with the authoress of that deliciously splendid catty remark the other night, we'll use the following outfit for the fraulein,

Not sure if this is said in jest, brother, but costumes would help the tour immensely.

Also, before anybody talks about “sexism” or whatever, 99% of the players are using their bodies to earn money off of Instagram sponsorships.

Now, for the other half of our dynamic duo, something could be drawn from other superhero outfits, Supergirl (?), if that is still around,

had a notable attire.

More work to do.

Kerber or this other girl could win the calendar year grand slam and you wouldn’t get 7 pages on TTW (unless it was about how difficult it is to do compared to how difficult it is in the men’s game).

This is what the WTA desperately needs.

This says more about TTW or whoever else blows such a thing out of proportion in such a way than for the WTA or the involved players none of which has interest to descend in personal feuds or continue with that in any meaningful way on a professional level. To their credit WTA are running a tight ship when it comes to controlling such situations and the daydreaming that some people here demonstrate about some major reaction is just that. WTA understands that that is the opposite of what they need, if they are to be taken seriously and they act accordingly.

There is the potential to make big money out of this incident, rent Madison Square Gardens, costume the players appropriately (example, Catwoman and

Supergirl), sell television rights, do a short tour of the big cities.

This is how Kramer and company had their best years, colourful characters, major feud, top players in mano a mano (or womano a womano) for top bragging

rights, major publicity.

It can still work. You could sell me a ticket right now.

That was the idea of the old Grand Slam of the 1990's, but it got watered down with substitute players and not enough colourful contrast in players.

What are the facts:
[...]

These are all facts. Your conclusion from these facts is that she is lying about her injury and fatigue as a gamesmanship tactic vs. the more obvious conclusion that Andreescu's shoulder is injured and she has been flagging fitness-wise late in matches. Occam's razor. Why draw a conclusion that is unnecessarily complicated when a simpler explanation will do?
Looking tired is easy, but that becomes a problem when you look tired one minute and the next you are chasing down balls all over the court. Every player has some physical issue at any given time - that tends to happen when your whole life revolves around playing tennis. The difference is in how often they exaggerate a problem to call an MTO. Andreescu has called for a lot of MTOs this year (almost every match in Auckland and Acapulco - before she could reasonably be "tired" from playing too much tennis)

The thing is, you are assuming medical timeouts in general are mostly legitimate. I believe the opposite to be true. At best, it's a 50/50 proposition. There is rampant (ab)use of tactical MTOs in professional tennis, which is why I said in my first post on this thread that the last thing the WTA needs is another player who does this. It's legitimate exasperation at the current state of affairs. I suspect if there were a price to taking an MTO (say, you automatically lose 1 or 2 games if you take one), we would see a substantial decrease in their use.

How do you explain away her past history of retiring from a match, but then immediately coming back to play in the next tournament?

How does you conclusion of gamesmanship take into account her fighting through her fatigue and injury to beat Begu when she was down a set and 1-5. I mean if you are using injuries to get out of being thrashed in a match, there would be the perfect time to retire, right? Or are we adding another layer to the complexity of your conclusion? Only some opponents are tank-worthy?
That's actually a good point. I'll concede that would have been a good time to retire.

I try out the new “slap” handshake and I really like doing it! The guy at the other side was a little shook up being the receive of it and I just smile and he caught on and return my smile!

I notice that Kerber "retired" in a match against Bouchard when trailing in the third set....I guess this is a common occurrence on the women's tour.

Perhaps it is okay...if Kerber does it, it should be okay for other players.

OMG I love Bianca more and more by the day.

She ripped Kerber to shreds with those Instagram stories.

First on court -- now offcourt as well.

I also like the fact that WTA's recent all sweet and lovey dovey kumbaya "no beef era" is over.

If there is a continued rivalry between these two great players, it would make a natural hth event, make both players well off.

Get MSG ready for the tennis catfight of the century!

That's my fundamental issue here.

Kerber has pulled off every trick that her fans suspect Andreescu is capable of. I mean her petty and rude handshakes (many many of them and they only happen when she loses to a lower ranked/lower status player, which shows it's a character issue and not a simple matter of being emotional after a loss) aren't even the worst thing Kerber does or ever did -- that remains Linzgate.

So I'm afraid Angie is the last person to perch on a sanctimonious pulpit and preach to Bianca on sportsmanship virtues. Credibility matters.

All of this creates great atmosphere for a potential one-on-one catfight series at Madison Square Gardens.

I mean this "drama queen" comment isn't even the worst -- she has given rude handshakes before anyway (many many of them in fact, and only when she loses to a lower ranked/lower status player, which shows it's a character issue and not a simple matter of being emotional after a loss. Kerber's biggest "crime" remains Linzgate.

What's Linzgate?

My least favorite Kerber moment was the Hantuchova incident at RG:

"Kerber sollte lernen, dass Niederlagen nur ein Teil des Spiels sind.
Sie hat das schon gelernt, oder? Sie hat ja genug Spiele verloren ....”
Ja, ja..

Kerber should learn that defeats are only part of the game.
She has already learned that, right? She lost enough games ....
Yes / Yes..

Is that what she said to the umpire? Doesn't look like it.

I don't know what Kerber said. I could see her with her arms out when she gets involved but can't tell either what that gesture means or what she said. At one point Hantuchova said "If anyone should get the point it's me, I made the shot." That about sums it up. Professional players want the win and aren't always concerned about the etiquette involved in achieving it.

Tour Pros play for money! If you win a match, you move up and play another match, make more money, get higher ranking. If you loose, you pack your bags and have to move to another tournament.

But it looks bad if you know who won the point and try to argue it away.

Its not worth the extra dough to make a bad scene.

that is like... your opinion dumbo
No, there was only one MTO for each player, so it had to be about the fist-pumps and screams.

Now don't tell me that Kerber never fist-pumps and screams, I have seen her do it.

Andreescu just does it better, and that annoys Kerber.

By the way, Andreescu's coach gave this same opinion, and he was right on the scene.
