Murray's 2013 Wimbledon run to the final in terms of opponents was pretty darn lucky.

#95 Benjamin Becker
#75 Yen-Hsun Lu
#29 Robredo
#26 Youzhny
#54 Verdasco
#22 Janowicz

And then you consider that his opponent in the final (Djokovic) had to face #13 Haas, #7 Berdych and #8 DelPo back to back to back.

Not your fault who you face of course.

At least, Anderson made it to two slam finals.

So, I think the list of slam finalists of last decade who have never won a major includes: Berdych, Soderling, Ferrer, Thiem, Nishikori, Anderson and Medvedev. I may be forgetting one.

Med is still very young, and Thiem is young and probably tops of this group. To me, "worst" career would come down to Anderson or Soderling. Most would probably give Sod the edge, as he took out Rafa at RG and his career was also cut short. But still, Kandy, like him or not, made two slam finals within a year's time. Not bad at all.

It seems the concencus for these players is that their greatest achievement is reaching a slam final. Well, with that logic, we have to put Soderling well ahead of Nishikori, as he has reached 2.

Robin Soderling won a Masters Series event, too, which Nishikori never has (and never will).

He achieved all he did having played his last match aged 26. Nishikori is now 30.

I hope I'm lucky enough to beat 6 ATP pros in best of five sets some day.

Also love how you had to specify which of his finals runs you were talking about, because he made two. But yeah Kevin Anderson suckksss

I don't know where I come in on this, and even tennis -wise, I don't know how significant it is.

RS made those back-to-back RG finals.
Kandy made two finals within a year's time.

But did either of them do as much in their careers as one-time slam finalists Ferrer, Berdych and Nish (who made a ton of QFs and was injury-prone but despite that, got consistently good results)?

All these guys had some game, and were not fluke finalists - even if Nish doesn't figure to beat Novak very often, and Ferrer just to his one final, even though he was nowhere near Novak's level. But over the course of their careers, especially Ferrer's, they had very good results.

Not as lucky as Nadal's run to the final at 2017 US Open.

#85 Lajovic
#121 Daniel
#59 Mayer
#64 Dolgopolov
#53 Rublev
#28 Del Potro

At least Murray played the world #1 in the final, not the world #32.

It was such sweet poetic justice when Kevin beat Federer at Wimbledon after months of crying about his being Nadal's finals opponent. Too sweet.

Yes, Milos.

So, my VERY quick, informal ranking of these guys (excluding Med...too young) would be...not sure why I'm doing this, but...
Thiem, Ferrer, Berdych, Nishikori, Raonic, Soderling, Anderson.

Why so low for Söderling? After all, he made TWO finals, back to back., at RG.
