Kevlar/ZX g17 hybrid tension?

Sorry for spamming you guys with threads, this should hopefully clear up all of my confusion with Kevlar strings.

Okay, back to my question: How should I string my set of Ashaway ZX Kevlar 17g Hybrid to optimize a firm feel and good spin?

What I mean by a “firm feel” is something similar to Black Code 4S strung in the mid-to-high 50’s and some spin similar to Black Code 4S in the mid-to-high 50’s.

I’ve heard some people say to string the Kevlar mains 10-15% lower than he ZX crosses, and some say to string the mains 10-15 pounds higher than the crosses.

Any clarification would be helpful, so say anything you want.

Thanks for all of your responses!

There is a whole thread on this subject that is several pages long. My advice would be to start with 60/40 or 45. But, it will take a couple of sessions to break in and then it will play consistently for a very long time. Also be careful using firm and Blackcode in the same sentence. In my experience, Blackcode is an extremely soft poly string.

Alright, I will take a look into that, thank you!

I'm also new to this kev game, yesterday I tried it for the first time at 60/40 with PPS instead of ZX due to availability. It's a good place to start for sure. I was pleasantly surprised, and a few doubting coworkers tried to (I work at a tennis store), and they all loved it.

The other Kevlar/ZX thread is so massively long.. My limited experience is that for a newbie without doing any pre-stretching, 60/45 went from firm to mushy within a few hours. A few means closer to a couple of hours than 10 hours. This is on a Prince Triple Threat Bandit OS, leaded up to about 347 g. If I were to redo that I would start with closer to 60/60.

My remedy was I retensioned ZX cross to 51 lbs, reference. The string bed had remained relatively steady, meaning firm so far. Difficult to tell exactly how many hours I have on it, since I have too many rackets on rotation.

FYI, I generally like a slightly more damped feeling stringbed than a board, such as 50 lbs SG on a 100 sq. in. string bed.

Always go higher on the kevlar mains.
