Kick/Topspin Serve Questions

I have only "four" questions:

I believe the only difference between the "pure" topspin serve and the kick serve is whether you swing up and through, or up and across the ball, respectively. However, when do you pronate your wrist during the kick serve? Would you pronate a tad after contact, as opposed to ON contact during a topspin serve?

Also, how would I know if my serve is a kick serve? Should the sidespin be significant enough to tell?

Lastly, how do you get that amazingly high bounce on a topspin/kick serve? Is it the racquet speed? The knee bend? Personally, I'm bending my knees a lot, but I think I could go faster with the racquet.

Sorry about these serve threads; I have this tennis team tryout thing, and I really want to impress the coaches with my developing serve.

Thanks for reading and your thorough input. Hope I can serve like a pro someday!

I watched a 12 year old girl from Bolletieri's Academy serve a match. She hit every serve about 75%. She only hit two second serves. So, obviously, Nick is teaching his kids the importance of getting the ball in play. :)

At the high school level, you will impress your coach by not double faulting 21 times in a match, like Sharapova. Keep it simple. If you have an effective slice serve, get it in the service box every time. Don't go fancy for try-outs.

Good luck!

To be honest, I get most of my serves in, no matter the kind. I just want to make them better, while I have the time. =)

Actually, a kick serve can be a "pure" topspin serve. The term, kick serve, is a general term that applies to 2-3 serve variations. Any serve that employs a heavy topspin component (and kicks up) is often referred to as a kick serve. This can include twist serves, topspin serves, or even some topspin-slice serves that have a heavy topspin component. The latter type of serve can have a significant amount of (vertical axis) side spin while the others do not.

Kick serves also employ a spiral spin component. This component is the strongest on twist serve but can also be employed for the topspin-slice version of the kick.
