Kick/Topspin serve

Has anyone actually gotten the kick/topspin serve to work on a consistent basis?

-most people's kick serves can kick but they take a whole lot of power off it and it does kick but its some dink serve with a high bounce

For those people with consistent, dependable and strong kick serves, what are the key elements...

there have been too many threads out there with people asking about kick serves, and people saying this and that

-brush from 6 to 12 blah blah blah
-bend your knees
-toss it to the left
-hit up, "practice" racket head speed
-use a eastern bh grip
-arch your back
-the list of useless kick serve tips goes on and on

If these simple instructions gave us kick serves, this doesnt explain why theres still so many threads about it.. clearly the above advice doesnt work

WE ALL WANT some helpful tips from GOOD players who have GOOD STRONG FAST AND HIGH KICKING kick serves!!! if you don't have one dont post your typical kick serve advice here....

TRUST ME... i watch good players with kick serves who start right out without doing any of the other stuff while the rest of us are practically hitting the hell out of the ball and not getting half the spin as the players with good kick serves..and i speak for most people here

All of that is technically correct. The trick is to do it without thinking about all of that stuff. If I am thinking mine is an average kick. If I am just hitting it, it is a weapon.

For what it is work, I hit a more 7 - 1 or 7:30 1:30. This gives it a bigger twist.

lol i have a crappy dependable kick serve, but am looking to fix it with some advice (unfortunatley my wrist is hurt so i can not practice it at this time). Anyway, a couple good players suggested i try to almost "catch the ball" with my racquet and use a lot of pronation to "thrust" it out, apparently this generates a lot of kick

I have a topspin serve that works extremely well (my bread and butter serve). It really bounces very high. It doesnt have as much side spin as i would like and hence opponents can often get a read on them if i dont place it accurately (eg: to their back hand or onto the body).

My issue is in getting enough side spin. I am practing well and results are encouraging.so may be i get to add that to my repository

The best advice I can give you is that all the tips mentioned are correct, but following everything mentioned is not going to give you the results immediately. You have to find what works best for you. And most of all, you need to practice it every day for quite a while.

First you will have minor success where you'll get one kick serve to go the way you want it. Or you might have 2 or 3 out of every 50 serves kick correctly.

You have to groove the serve though so it becomes second nature. And then, you will be able to do it everytime. Hope this helps. :)

Hey! It sounds like u want a 5.5 level kick serve in a day. Aint gonna happen. You need to go thru all the intermediate stages first. Listen to ZP. He's got a nasty kick serve.

Anywhos, I'd add these:
1. Practice good technique
2. Have a coach correct your mistakes

hey

if ur sacrificing power for spin then ur either not tossing it in front enough or ur not hitting enough of the ball and just brushing up on the ball rather than brush and hit more into the ball. ive got a pretty reliable kick serve. i dont toss mine behind me. u have to toss it in front of you. racquet speed would be helpful. when i do it im so loose on my eastern backhand grip im almost holding the racquet grip with only my index middle and thumb finger.

One thing that REALLY helped me was starting to hit from one knee. It just meant that the toss had to be in just the right spot and it makes you hit up on the ball to lift it over the net.

A good consistent toss +
Contact at full extension +
Very explosive attack upward on the ball with excellent racquet head speed

=> good consistent top spin and kick serves.

Otherwise, you tend to get wimpy ones.

Everything else you hear about hitting these serves is a footnote relative to achieving those 3 objectives.

One of the things my coach got me to do is kick out the back leg. I was surprised how much this gave me that extra kick on the ball.

you cannot be so small minded in saying that the information is useless, it is essentially correct, all those factors are required for a good kick serve. The difficulty in learning via the web is that no one can give you feedback on what you are doing, you must rely on your own feelings and judgements.

I bet there are more threads about backhands then kick serves, does everyone give useless advice on them too? Maybe the two most common areas of improvement required by the Average Joe are 2nd serve and backhand! WOW REVELATION!

if you choose to learn from the web i suggest you fork out some cash to JCo's site and get an expert's description (which actually if you hunt hard enough he has been generous enough to post his kick serve article in numerous threads).

but anyway here is my tip for a great kick serve (or any stroke really)

experimentation + evaluation + correction + repetition = improvement
