Killing MoonBalls

Hi all,

I am having problem killing Moonballs for my Backhand, i'm a 2bh. other that waiting for the ball to drop lower, what can i do to kill it?

Thx, any help will be appreciated.

I always take it on the rise. I usually do this. It cuts the amount of time your opponent has to react and also, you can generate alot of pace.

hmm.....but i not gd with half-volleys.........in fact i dun know how to do it properly other than hitting it when it is going to bounce up again

Take it as a forehand if possible. If not... To execute a half volley begin your normal stroke and aim a little above where the ball is going to bounce. Your contact point should be a little over and behind where the ball bounced. Just do your normal stroke motion.

always take it on the rise and stay against it. hit your normal stroke and always try to hit it in the waist area. dont try to do anything fancy. just set up and keep your eye on the ball. running around it would be the easiest if you want

when somebody moonballs me, I don't kill their moonballs. Instead, I would take care of business by hitting higher moonballs back. So, you give me a 10 feet moonball, I will give you a 15 feet moonball. So far, I have never encountered any moonballer that could handle that strategy.

If you know the history of my posts, I'm always quick with the pics . It does help to get the joke immediately as well.

I used to have problems with moonballs but now I like to serve it right back to them, but higher and with more topspin and watch it fly over their heads. That'll teach them to hit that shot again.

If you have a good drop shot just bring them in and pass them. If they are too good for that, you can try to find the weaker wing and moonball back to that side. Moonballs give you plenty of time.

i am a beginner, so i am not sure. i agree taking it early is good, but my timing screws up when i try that. advice please

i think there is no single way to tackle it.

if you can get to the ball, volley it by swing volley or overhead smash.

if you can half volley or hit on the rise, then it is also ok. but if it is a moonball, the bounce-up is very fast, hence timing is very difficult.

if u can't reach there on the rise, then run around and hit forehand because you have the time.

if you still can't do it, just moon ball back. especially if you are taller, you have the advantage of returning a moonball than a midget.

Yuck!! 86 moonballs???? That would totally bore me to death!

Anyway, to deal with moonballs, try your best to get in position and take it on the rise like Agassi would (along with many other ATP ppl). It's hard at first, but it's worth the practice in the long run, because it gives you more options (and you get to not bore your audience to death in a moonball-to-moonball war).

Topspin drive volleys and overheads are good if you have the time.

Because he could not put away Vilas' balls. This was back in the days when they played with wood rackets. It's very difficult to put the ball away, especially when you played someone like Vilas at Roland Garros.

I viewed the video clip of that point on the web about a month ago but now I cannot find where it is. Maybe it has been taken off line.
