Kim Clijsters is coming back! Again!

There is a God. Henin and Hingis next please.

Why? They ran away from the sport because they could not compete with Serena. If they tried singles again, it would be a cowardly move only because they probably think Serena is currently vulnerable.

They would be entering a field loaded with majors winners, so Serena or no Serena, they would run into a number of serious roadblocks.

But at her age? I doubt it. Perhaps doubles. She won't be winning any slams in singles, that's for sure.
Agreed...unless the field all suddenly forget how to play tennis and/or suffer injuries and/or retire.

She saw Serena reach 4 Slam finals after having a baby and decided the others are so weak that she has a good chance.

All I can do is applaud her. For everyone saying she is too old or whatever there are some of us who applaud her for attempting to do it because she loves the game. Her positive attitude and warm smile will, to me, be a welcome addition to current crop of young players many of whom I am sure looked up to her as they rose through the ranks themselves. So what if she doesn't win any majors? She could just be doing this to prove to herself she can do it. Serena is fighting to win after having her first child, and many thats inspired Kim to try and doing it again. Whether she doesn't or not, who cares. She's attempting to follow her dream in the Same way Serena is. I applaud them both for doing it. Power to her and I wish her the best.

I’m happy to hear Clijsters is going to try. Even if she doesn’t obtain great success, she’s a welcome personality on the tour. She will only be able to contend if she gets her movement back, which is iffy, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s more successful than Azarenka since she came back.

Totally random and unexpected but would be interesting to see how she does.

"As a former World No.1, Clijsters is eligible for unlimited wild cards at WTA tournaments" - From the WTA article link below did not know such a rule existed. Have the likes of Masha and Serena been using it?

Both have yes. Maria still does and Serena did before she climbed high enough up the rankings to not need them I believe

Trivia question of the day. What men's player left the game and tried to comeback after 7 years? Bjorn Borg, of course. Was about the same age. Lost 8 (?)straight first round matches. Didn't win a set. Kim must see something in this WTA field that leads her to believe she can win.
Maybe she figures "if I won 3 slams after having one kid I'll win 6 more after two more kids?"

Hingis and Henin didn't retire because of Serena. What a load.

You mean seriously inconsistent. Here are their major performances since winning their last major:
#75 Jelena Ostapenko: 1R x 4, 3R x 4, QF x 1, SF x 1, lost in the first round 3 of the last 4 majors
#42 Victoria Azarenka: hasn't gotten past the QF of a major in 6 years, hasn't gotten past the 3rd round in 2 years
#27 Garbine Muguruza: 1R x 2, 2R x 3, 4R x 3, SF x 1, has not gotten past the 4th round in the last 6 majors
#17 Caroline Wozniacki: 1R x 1, 2R x 2, 3R x 3, 4R x 1
#15 Angelique Kerber: 1R x 2, 2R x 1, 3R x 1, 4R x 1
#14 Sloane Stephens: 1R x 3, 3R x 1, 4R x 1, QF x 2, F x 1
#7 Petra Kvitova: 1R x 2, 2R x 5, 3R x 6, 4R x 3, QF x 2, F x 1

The serious roadblocks are Andreescu, Halep, Osaka, and maybe Barty.

Huh? No. Henin retired when she was 26 and was world number 1. She and Hingis both tried to return. Henin seriously injured her elbow after which she decided to hang up for good. Hingis herself was a natural fall off. Nothing to do with Serena.
Henin tried to return, lost to Serena, then ram away again. Regarding the "natural fall off" of Hingis, the game passed her by quickly and she bailed. Then again, for all her ego, she struggled even at the end of Graf's era and certainly in the next significant singles tour era to follow.

She injured her elbow severely and decided to call it off. Champions don't 'run away'. However if you have an opinion on that, I will not argue. You are entitled to your wrong opinions too.

Well why not? The WTA is about sprinting, not running a marathon, and she’s younger than Serena.

Roof at all 4 majors now, players (men and women combined) can play into their 40’s these days.
I agree with most of what you said but what does the roof have to do with older players playing longer? Just curious.

The list of active majors winners is a roadblock, whether you understand that or not. They have more than an edge with said active experience than a long retired player trying to keep with that.

Why?

I have no problem with her but she can't honestly expect to win anything. When are post-retirement sport comebacks ever a good idea?

I was surprised, that she wants to go back to the circuit. Comeback in age 36 years - the hope for a great outcome is very little. Borg burned down with an effort to return on the professional circuit, and Clisters is likely to burned down similarly :(

I don't know that I see her winning slams, not at this age after this long off, but we will certainly find out just how bad the WTA is right now :-D she made a mockery of it the last time she returned, and while I don't think that things are as dire now as they were then it will be fascinating to see how high she can climb.

Henin did not run away again after losing to Serena in her comeback. The only time she played Serena in her comeback was the 2010 AO final. She lost in 3 sets yes, however she played on for another year after that winning 2 titles and I believe getting back into the top 10. If any player mentally chased her out it was Clijsters who beat her 3 times in 2010. Nice Try though

Kim can win a slam again because she is a physical anomaly, like Serena. Can't compare her to Borg who was trying to come back using old tech and old technique. Can't compare her to Azarenka either physically or mentally for that matter.

Kimiko Date unretired for the second time with 37 and won a WTA level tournament and couple of ITFs, so everything is possible. But I doubt Kim will reach GS finals as Serena did with 37.

Damn she's 36. With the immense flexibility and considerable athleticism with which she played, I'm not expecting much.

She's one of the best personalities tennis has ever had.

So is this actually legit?

Fixed it for you. :p If there truly is a God, he's gotta be concentrating on Mac and Ivan over Henin/Hingis. Who cares if they're 59 and 60 years old? They're still more interesting than 97% of the current tour.

Terrible news. Hope she doesn't. Who's next - Graf? This is to make matters worse for helter.
