He possibly could just be thinking about calling it a day at the Laver Cup, we don't know for sure.

And he wants to go out on a high note. More information will be revealed closer to the time, but I don't see Nadal playing any more tournaments outside of Laver Cup and the exho in KSA this year.

I don't believe in retirement he said himself he is not retiring yet. But true form he can get only in tournaments, not in training

Well, he has said he is not retiring yet, but he could be playing his cards very close to his chest. Federer only announced 12 days before Laver Cup that he was retiring. He may retire, he may not, but him not playing any of the key events is a very telling sign. If he is not playing any of the masters and any of the slams, then what he is really playing for. He said he wants to be competitive, which is fine, and all that, but the competition is in the big events.

I don't think he is playing any tour events this year at least. Indoors will be coming and that is bad news for him at the best of times.

What is Rafa trying to accomplish at this point? I’m still trying to figure it out. He can’t even get to the second week of slams now so I’m not sure what his motivation is. He needs 3 more to be GOAT over Djoker. And right now he’s not even getting close and he’s gonna be 39 next year

Slam GOAT race over, that's a done deal now. But I would understand him playing to be competitive, to get some final great wins, some nice moments to share with his son.

I think though the last few weeks were a big wake up to where he actually is level wise. Sometimes you want to keep plugging at it, hoping something changes, Murray did this also.

wasn't Fed doing something similar before he retired in hopes that he could make something work? Mentally he obviously wants to keep going, it's the body that's going to make that call for him. Only in practice can he get a good idea of what he has left.

Laver cup is a retirement home. It's not to go out on an high but to rescue a bit of dignity.

Personally, I'm with the the Nadal fans. He should go to the USO for one more whipping.

What card? He's sitting out of slams ( Wimbledon+ USO) didn't look even average in matches he played but he's not retiring? If he thinks he's not retiring he should have been playing the slams. Imo he's retiring at laver cup and that's good for him

He needs to listen to Federer and keep going forever.

He should enter every single competition and at least collect the 1st round money.

A dead horse can never be flogged enough. We need some more.

Nadal is like red wine that has been locked up for 1000 years, It is past its expiration date. Loved the Guy and been cheering for him for decades but it’s time to call it a day, Every dog has it’s day and it’s midnight for Nadal.

It was probably raining and he couldn’t play golf - so he is playing indoor tennis during the summer! Maybe he is preparing to win Bercy for the first time.

Why are yall so pressed about when he does or doesn't retire? Some of us like seeing the guy play no matter what, if the passion is still there let him play, if not he will end it when he's ready. His legacy is more than secure.
Come on, if you like what you see you would make a thread how epic his trainings are. But you make only threads from past matches, not trainings. Nothing better than to show your capabilities at real person in real situation, not with controlled outcome.
Even Suresh looked epic in his training :notworthy:

If he wants to retire at the LC, that’s his choice. If not that’s his choice too. He’s training because he wants to show up at the LC and not let his team mates or himself down. Not sure why that is complicated.

He should have played doubles in USO. Would have been good to watch.

Laver cup isn’t the right place for retirement. You played in the main tour for 20 years+, don’t retire in a tournament with no history and no real fan base

Has Nadal ever spoken of a particular admiration for Laver?. Federer did, which made it a logical choice for him. Like everyone else I'm guessing like everyone but I would have thought either Roland Garros or Wimbledon next year might be where he would choose to depart.

If he retires next month, then good for him. He has nothing left to prove. He is one of the big 3 and will forever be one of them. But I am sure if he is retiring, he at least wants to put in the best showing he can with what he is now capable of doing.

They are talking about Djokovic retirement while he is in much better shape than Nadal, plus can still beat Alcaraz, but talking about Nadal's retirement who can't pass 1st round is no no topic.

Not everything is about being the GOAT. In 2024 his motivation was simply getting that elusive 15th RG, but he experienced a reality check with that 1R loss to Zverev and his inability to win a title (not even an ATP 250) throughout the entire year.

Both can retire when they wish to, ultimately, they earned it. Heck, despite being beaten so badly for so long, Murray earned and deserved that send off in the Olympics.

I know there are many desperate for Djokovic to stop winning, he simply won too much for them to stomach, and that Olympic gold must really sting, but haters can pray all they want, they don't control when these guys decide to retire.

We all know Nadal is on his final legs, and he could go any time, but if wants to carry on, then, just like Murray he earned it also. It is sad seeing the 1st 2nd round losses, because we saw these guys at their best, and there is that desire for them not to keep taking losses to guys that shouldn't even be winning sets off of them, but still, they earned the right to go out the way which is best for them. Laver Cup might just be that for Nadal, LA Olympics might be that for Djokovic, who truly knows.

Who else is playing in that exho?
Not sure Laver Cup and High Note are compatible really!

Why would anyone want Djokovic to retire. Love him or hate him, he engineers passion in the sport perhaps more than any other player in history as he engages with the fans etc with his antics. Its compulsive viewing.
Nadal's body has failed him as has Murray's as did Federer's thats why they have had to (or are about to ) call it a day. If Djokovic is healthy and fit, why should he retire. He loves playing tennis, its his job. What would he do if he retired? Yes he has millions in the bank, but life would soon get boring. If his wife and kids are happy with him playing, then carry on would be my advice.
