Klip Legend Natural Gut 16

Rookie
I'll be using Klip Legend Natural Gut 16 for the first time soon. Has anyone used these strings? Since it is a cheaper gut than others, what tension do you prefer it to be strung at? I usually go gut mains @58 with co-poly crosses @55.

I've tried it and compared to my go-to gut (Pacific Classic), it plays a tad bit stiffer/crisper than Pacific Classic.

I strung my guts at 55lbs.

So would you say that Klip Legend Gut is better than Pacific Classic?

It's all subjective really. If you like a crisper stringbed, then yeah Klip Legend would be a very affordable and good to you. But I prefer a softer taste for my stringbed, so I stuck with Pacific Classic.

Yeah I guess I'll have to try both Klip and Pacific Classic to see which one i actually like more. I'm using Wilson gut right now and they are pretty good. So I'll most likely be going with the one that will play like Wilson.

I tried the prepackaged Klip Gut/Poly combos a few times. The gut snapped either during stringing or on the first mishit. Strung well-below max tension using a Wilson Bairardo by an MRT.

It's econo-gut...

Just as a reference: I have used Babolat VS Touch, Wilson Gut, Pacific Prime Orange Bull Fiber and their crazy Bull Gut... The Klip Legend was the lowest quality of the bunch. Then again, those are all marketed as "premium" with higher price points.

For my money, Babolat VS Touch Black 16 is what I will purchase in the future if I return to gut and/or gut hybrids. Yes, I like the coating...

So how was the crazy $100 a pack (slight exaggeration) Bull Gut? I'm curious.

I don't know who your MRT is but I've strung with this a dozen times and never had less than 6 months 3/wk hitting with string savers and pads. The customers I've strung for have also lasted at least 3 mo. with string savers.

I use Klip Legend for myself and the people I string for that use gut. Why? I've never had it break prematurely. I've had Pacific gut break before use, and I refuse to pay $40+ for Babolat, Wilson or Prince gut. I like the way Pacific gut plays just as well and it's my 2nd favorite. I don't like Klip's Armor coated gut (?). VS Tonic is fine, but it too, has gotten pricey.

classic plays much more like wilson gut. In fact, once classic breaks down and softens up, there's no better gut. Wilson and the old VS play like that throughout its stringlife but Classic needs to break-in a bit.

I tried Klip Legend, Pacific Classic, and Babolat Tonic. Klip Legend was the most durable and the best bang for the buck. Pacific Classic was the softest and had the best feel, so it was my favorite but not as durable as Klip Legend. Tonic was my least favorite. It didn't last long and was too powerful.

Funny because my rating is the exact opposite of Ramon:

1. Babolat Tonic BallFeel 16G is my favorite medium priced gut
2. Pacific Classic is a close 2nd
3. Klip Legend 16G is my 3rd favorite but I would not use it again - lacks coating, is much more difficult to string, and is not quite as durable as Bab Tonic BallFee. Legend kinks easily and unravels easily when stringing. It also frays faster than the others once you start playing with it. Playability is pretty good though.

I just commented on this string. I have broke both Wilson and Babolat nat gut within 5 sets. Klip, a gut which is a bit stiffer, has felt good and it doesn't break as easily for some reason. Assuming that you are not a string breaker, you should find it pleasing.

I just wanted to note that when I played with Tonic it only lasted me 5 hours. However, the break occurred in one spot where fraying was premature. The rest of the string bed looked fresh. It's quite possible that this was a fluke or due to kinking during stringing, but I don't know for sure. I really wasn't too upset when it broke because I thought it was stiff and overpowered compared to Pacific Classic.

I don't know about this one. TennisCJC says that Klip kinks too easily and frays faster and lacks coating. But Ramon and SCRAP IRON say that Klip is stiffer and the most durable and doesn't break easily. I'm confused.....

I read reviews of pacific classic and klip gut on TW and saw that Classic didnt have many good reviews compared to klip. so i dont know if Klip or Pacific Classic will play more like Wilson gut??

I never tried Wilson Gut, but I heard that it's the closest thing to VS before the change to the BT7 coating, which is unpopular on this forum because it makes the gut stiff. Tonic has BT7 also, and I didn't like it that much. Wilson Gut is made in the same factory as Babolat VS. I played with the original VS before, but it was a long time ago.

IMO, Pacific Classic will play closer to a high quality gut than Klip Legend. It's softer and has better feel. It won't stand up to as high a tension as more expensive gut, it will kink more easily, and it won't last quite as long. For playability, Pacific Classic is my favorite gut under $35. Klip Legend lasted me 30 hours. It was tougher to string than Classic, and it kinked more easily, but nevertheless it lasted a lot longer. Pacific usually breaks in 8-12 hours for me. I may have had unusual luck with Klip Legend, but Pacific Classic was never even close to it in durability, and I've tried it multiple times.

I have used Klip uncoated 16g a few times. It plays crisp (or stiff) but its
playing characteristic was unmistakably a natural gut one (to me).

Its playability life span was shorter than original VS(or Tonic, pre-BT7)
and its 16g felt thicker than 15L of babolat Tonic+.

Try them both and find out which one you like better. Pick one, doesn't matter which, try it and then try the other next time. I am pretty sure you can get half sets of both, so the cost won't be that bad if you want to save a little money while you try them out.

Just found this on the RSI string info. on Wilson, Klip, and Pacific Classic Gut.

-Wilson Natural Gut 16 Stiffness: 103 Tension loss: 8.43
-Klip Legend Natural Gut 16 Stiffness: 113 Tension loss: 8.77
-Pacific Classic Natural Gut 16 Stiffness: 106 Tension loss: 11.01

Looks like Klip gut is as durable as Wilson but much stiffer. Pacific Classic is very close to Wilson's playability but less durable. Between Klip and Classic, I wanted the string that would play and be as durable as Wilson. Half Klip and half Classic on mains??? LOL JK

I think I'll be trying out Klip first and then Pacific. I'll have to try both to see which one i like better. But for me right now, durability is a higher priority. Also, I heard that gut plays better as it gets old and when it's about to break.
