Klip Legend Natural Gut or KLIP Adrenalin Gut/Poly Hybrid in an Oversize racquet?

I was wondering what people thought about using natural gut in an overize racquet. Am about to order my frame and was deciding on whether to nominate Klip Legend Natural Gut or go for a synthetic or Hybrid. KLIP Adrenalin Gut/Poly Hybrid String caught my eye as a possibility. Anyone have any suggestions ?

Aye Andrew. I'll take a stab at this since nobody else has responded. Gut in most oversized frames is going to be very powerful unless strung tightly. From the Klip line, the X-Plosive is the latest and greatest hybrid..Its Legend Gut and KBoom poly..it got great reviews by the USRSA if that has any weight for you. You could string that up w. gut mains and the KBoom might blunt some of the power for you, but you get to keep much of the feel.

Thanks Ed, thought you'd disappeared LOL. I've ordered the POG OS (the Volkls fell through) so was just wavering on what string to put in it. Actually went ahead and had something cheap put in, will get it restrung when it arrives.

Good point, hadn't thought of the extra power from gut just the extra comfort. Also, saw the Klip Legend on discount so was sorely tempted as gut costs at least $60 out here (unstrung) so to get it for only 35 through TW is a huge bonus. I'm going to put in a large order (well, under 250AUS) on quite a few different strings and try them out to see what's good for me (as well as cutting back on the inflated prices we get charged) so I'll add the X-plosive to the list thanks very much.

By the way, how did your tennis related project work out? Went well I hope.

Andrew I'm back for more abuse :) i dont know which tennis project your referencing..i usually seem to have something going on tennis related. I'm using the Klip Legend now..it's a sweet string..cant you buy in downunder on the cheap since it's made down there? so it's cheaper to have them ship it to TW from Oz, then ship it back to you? how does this work? exchange rates cant be that bonzo? or maybe it can.......

Sorry, thought you mentioned that you had a few tennis related things on the go. Oh well, guess you were lucky to miss the Vantage ruckus lol. Yes, back for more abuse seems to be the way I feel whenever I log on now. Takes a little while to sort the threads that might be worthwhile from the ones that are just people spoiling for a fight or desparate to see their opinions in print.

No, as with most everything they seem to charge us extra even for those things made close to home (most gut from New Zealand). Of course we have the GST (goods and services tax 10%) to factor in and buying through TW, so long as the order is under 250AUS, eliminates that. Eg Klip Legend is 35AUS at TW, 60AUS here, Klip Adrenalin is 24AUS at TW, 35AUS here. If I want a cheap string, Prince Duraflex is 16-20AUS here, 4.95AUS through TW. Pretty raw deal eh LOL.

But that's why Im buying a racquet through TW and not locally. When I do manage to get to the States, I'll be having a ball at those tennis shops of yours LOL. Any other string you could recommend for an O/S that I can add to the list?

Andrew I did do a large tennis clinic in conjunction w. the SuperBowl and that went well. maybe that is what you mean. Alas, I think you are really going to have to experiment w. your strings unfortunately.we dont know your game, your power levels, your capability of spinning the ball etc. a good teaching pro down there could help you. Gut is certainly primo, and you can dampen the power with other strings in your crosses as needed..i think you're on the right track. The global economy sure doesnt make sense sometimes does it? I know around here, the shrimping industry used to be vibrant. Now the local markets carry shrimp from South America rather than local shrimp because they can sell it for much cheaper than the local and at great margins. Meanwhile, the local shrimpers are running as lean and mean as they can, but they are seriously controlled by environmental issues. i still try and buy the local shrimp to suport the local business as i can, and they taste better anyway. luck to you w. your new gear.

Possibly that was what I had in mind although I dont think you went into any specifics. Still, good to see it went well.

Very true Im afraid. The local boys seem to have their first obligation to the international market as they can get a lot more out of them. Our dollar being lower than yours an American company is tempted to buy a lot more than an Australian company would so overseas the goods go.

I would happily buy local if I could find someone here (Queensland) that I felt had respectable margins and wasn't cashing in on the scarcity of tennis shops. You've got truckloads in the States but here we've got very few and they do tend to keep the prices high. Although I will admit, they suffer by having to pay a distributor. Prince charges distributor X, distributor charges retailer X and retailer charges customer X. So you end up having to cope with 3 separate margins. Regardless, the only two frames I was interested in POG O/S and Volkl T10mpGenII aren't carried in Australia so I had to buy overseas.

I'm looking forward to doing a bit of experimenting with gut, hybrids and sythetics. As the cost is a lot lower through TW I'll just bring in a lot of different ones and go for trial and error.
