Klippermate stringer for $50 a good idea?

I have strung my racquet only once on a crank stringer and my coach offered me their Klippermate for 50 dollars. I am a highschool player and was wondering if it is worth buying even if they aren't fixed clamps. I pay 15 dollars for stringing labor at the local shop and in the last 2 weeks I have broken my strings twice, so it is beginning to get a little expensive.

Yes, you can learn on it and if you want to keep stringing, you can always buy something easier and faster to string with down the road.

Yup, great deal and totally solid first stringer. You can easily sell it and recoup your money if you don't like stringing or want to upgrade to something else down the line. Just make sure it works fine and includes both flying clamps.

Those things are very robust. Additionally, this is your coach selling it, correct? Probably safe to assume that he/she wouldn't sell you flawed machine.

You dont need a pricey machine or fixed clamps to churn out consistent stringbeds, you just need to take your time. I would get the Klipper. No brainer for 50 bucks, assuming its in working condition.

Great deal. Figure you're about 17 and will use it until age 70. How much dough you gonna save, boy?

Great deal.

i bought a gamma x 2 that was a return.. $69. i have strung my own racquets as well as my players for 6 years now.. i have saved hundreds and made hundreds in that time.. jump on it. small and easy to use..no calibrating..watch tv and string.. really can't beat it.. it's slow to use..but is a real time saver [dropping off, waiting for, picking up of rackets] and money saving.

You know, Swizzy, you make a great point at the end there.

I mean, for a time, the guy who did my stringing was 100 miles away. Inconvenient to meet up. Also, locally, it would take 30 minutes or so to get there; 30 minutes back. . .

. . . and it kind of makes me laugh ironically that we so often quibble about how fast these machines are, or which is 15 seconds faster doing something.

THAT TIME SAVINGS was one positive to stringing that I hadn't recognized previous to buying a stringer!

Bought a Klippermate almost 20 years ago and it's still running strong. Been stringing my own racquet since then also, always happy with the job it does and it gives me some relaxing time stringing my own racquet. A little rust here and clamps needs to be clamped just right, but overall definitely worth it.

If nothing's broken, it is a bulletproof design that will literally last forever. I've had mine for over 20 years. I have never had a problem with it. Yes, you can get faster and perhaps more consistent stringers. No, you can't get a more reliable piece of gear.

Do you guys think it's even worth asking to borrow to test it then? I kinda don't want to ask that at the price she's giving it at.

Well, if it's your coach whom you trust, just ask that it works fine and includes both flying clamps. There isn't much that can go wrong with these machines unless it's been neglected and stuff is bent.

I think it's really good that you're giving some thought to spending $50. Living frugally (but not cheap - there's a big difference) will serve you well for the rest of your life.

That said, I suspect your coach is doing you a favor. As others have told you, $50 for a working Klippermate is basically a giveaway price. Don't test her generosity.

Just ask her to teach you how to use it by stringing a racquet from start to finish. This will check the machine for function as well in addition to the lesson.

I agree with above. Volunteer to cut her grass a few times in the summer and wax her car.

I can't count how many times I've heard of people selling their Kmates on cragslist and getting back virtually as much as they paid for it new.
