klippermate worth it?

I really want to start stringing my own racquets this summer, but the only stringing machine i could possibly afford would be one of the klippermate stringers that are around $150. is it even worth it to buy a stringer this cheap? in addition to that, how long did it take you to learn how to string a racquet? it seems very complicated to me

I learned on a Klippermate in one day, but I don't like the machine. What I would suggest is buy an Alpha string pal of Gamma X-2 and then get the Klipper manual.

I was wondering the same. I am considering the Gamma X-2 or Klippermate because they are affordable. So I take it the Gamma X-2 is better eh?

The Klippermate doesn't have a ratcheting mechanism, which is VERY annoying. So I'd go with the X-2, unless you have the budget, then go with the Revo. Still, I have to say that the Klippermate's manual is the best around.

I've been using my Klippermate for 3 years and have had no problems with it. Nylons are cake, Zyex is a little harder and poly is poly. Folks who struggle with it probably shouldn't be stringing their own rackets.

Yep,

Klippermate is a good basic stringer and they have good customer service.

Whats not to like at that price?

Ditto. I even bought a blemished model and saved another $15 off the regular price. I never could tell where the supposed blemish was and it still looks good after about 2 years and almost 40 stringings.

I too wish it was a ratcheted dropweight. However, after you have strung with the same string type a few times, you get so you don't have to reposition the string often in order to get the dropweight level.

Sure there are stringers with more bells and whistles, which will allow you to string a bit faster, but in my opinion, the quality of a string job is mostly in the hands of the stringer and not the stringing machine.

yea i definitely need to get one, lol. right now im just using any desk i can find

I was ready to give up stringing until I got it. It makes a world of difference. And the Klippermate is still portable even when bolted to the stand (room to room around the house, I mean). Plus it's got the nifty tray in which to keep your tools.

Another to consider is the Alpha String Pal at $120 - save you some bucks over the klipper, and includes a linear string gripper. Easy on the string and easy to use. Check out newtechtennis.com for info...

get a stringing machine!!!

better than that, get an x-2 because of your budget. you'll get free strings packed with it to start you of (I got 6 packs of strings that came with my Gamma machine).

Abe: I use one of those wood clamps to clamp the base down, putting the machine on my basement workbench. It's pretty stable: you're right, the price for the "official" bench is too high. Consider getting one of those Black & Decker outdoor workstands at the hardware shop; about $30-45 depending on where you get it. That's a nice stand, too. While you're there, buy a Plano box for your machine; good to keep it all together.

You're right. The price is high. It almost scared me away from getting it. In my case, however, it boiled down to either getting out of stringing and paying someone to string our rackets for the rest of my life or buying it and stringing in comfort. I'm 100% satisfied with it and will never string on a table again.

I swear I'm not associated with Klippermate in any capacity other than being a satisfied customer, but their stand is really well made and fits the stringer like a glove. Super solid. And the height is adjustable which is nice. Plus it makes a small footprint since it is designed for the stringer.

Klippermate is a good basic stringer and they have good customer service.

The lifetime warranty and their reputation for customer service is what finally sold me.

I've been very happy with mine, and it's paid for itself multiple times in the year I've had it.

I highly recommend the String Pal. Don't think that cheap means you can't string well. The String Pal strings great.

I had the Klippermate for a couple years. I like the String Pal a lot better, it looks nicer, and my stringing takes about 20 minutes less time. $30 less for nicer looks and a linear clutch. And I like the flying clamps better.

As I said before, I don't like the Klipper all that much, but only because it doesn't have the ratchet. For me, time is of the essence, because I don't have much of it.
