Knee issues for Rafael Nadal: 'I don't know whether I play Basel, Paris'

Exactly. And don't forget when Nadal tweaked his back in Montreal and opened the way for Federer to breeze through the weakest slam draw since Atlantis went down (the island, not the space shuttle, obviously, in case someone is planning on being dense on purpose). ;)

Oh wait...

Never knew they played tennis in Atlantis. Always thought it started with Wimbledon?;)

Federer is chasing Nadal for top spot

"However, the 19-time Grand Slam champion also hinted at his own schedule changing. ‘I mean, I don’t even know what it takes to be honest [to become world No. 1],’ he told Sky Sports after the win. ‘I just know the World Tour Finals is a must and probably Paris too and probably Basel so that all depends on how Rafa plays. ‘It’s a wild thought, that’s why I’m not even thinking about it to be quite honest at this point."

Got a feeling it's the last thing you wanted to see Chanwan. ;)
Not quite correct. If Fed's not playing, I'd prefer Rafa not to play either and have them compete for the no. 1 at the WTF. But if Rafa's playing, I wouldn't mind to get an extra Fedal match in before the WTF. Or another beatdown from Shapovalov ;-)

All that said, I never ever doubted Rafa would play Paris given playing Basel was never gonna happen when he went deep in both Shanghai and Beijing. And no, I don't think he was seriously injured if at all. At the most, a bit of pain after 10 matches in 12 days, which is perfectly normal for all players. But because it's Rafa and he plays the 'I'm not gonna play Basel cause of my knee' BS, then everybody - ehmm, the VB-brigade - buys it.

Im going to Paris and would love Rafa and Fed to contest the final that I have tickets for. But as a Rafa fan, id rather he sat out Paris if hes to have any chance at being injury free and fresh for the WTF. Surely that should be his ultimate goal at this point of the season, although I get that Rafa the competitor would enter everything if his body held up. Hopefully he finishes the season feeling good, win or lose these indoor tourneys.

That's an early draw.

Did he say so? Paul Annacone reportedly said 'if things go well for Fed in Basel, he will play Paris'.

Well, just going by his early comments. It's interesting he hasn't yet withdrawn. I don't like it when players withdraw after the draw has been made. I would rather he skips Paris and focus on the WTF. He's lost three finals the last 6 six, would be nice to get this one.

It has been over 15 years since Rafa started learning English and he still has no idea how to use the word "will"??? o_Oo_Oo_O

I just think Fed should wait for his draw in Paris then make a decision.

And I hope no Murray fans than complain about this, since Muzz retired after the USO draw, which pissed off 99% of neutral tennis fans on earth. That was pathetic on his part and I am usually disinclined to bag on Andy.

He is ready to play.

Once again this website http://www.**************.org has proven to not be providing the best information or getting things accurate at time of release to create clickbaits or scare articles.

This website is not proper journalism and you can't rely on the stories there.

He won't be playing anyway.

But more to the point I think his ranking would be close to 10.

If he had an arrangement he could use .. if I am playing, if he had made a decision .. if I am going to.

Will would be unusual here unless you are thinking of a simple prediction without current evidence or a decision made at the time of speaking.

Nadal's choice of a simple present is better than will here, especially if it is just an over generalisation.

Most native speakers have little conscious understanding of tense and aspect or even syntax, and when they do comment on it, they typically get it wrong. Why for example started learning as opposed to started to learn? Would you use an infinitive or gerund (to do / doing) after begin, start & continue? What about stop, regret, mean?

Nadal's English is probably better than you imagine.
