Thanasi Kokkinakis Gives Insight Into Andy Murray Comeback Timeline

It has been nearly a year since we last saw Andy Murray compete, and it is fair to say that the fans, players, and everyone else misses the former World #1. This week, Murray has exited the top 100 for the first time since he entered it thirteen years ago.

The Scot’s comeback has been delayed too: Murray withdrew from the Libema Open this week. With so many uncertainties circling around the 31-year-old, it is difficult to know what to read into. Luckily, Thanasi Kokkinakis saw Murray last week. I spoke to the Australian whilst he was in Surbiton, and asked him about this particular encounter.

“I actually saw him yesterday and I didn’t recognise him. I saw this guy at Raynes Park and I saw him walking towards me and thought that kind of look like Andy, it kind of looks like an accountant as well,” Kokkinakis told me, “And then he got closer and I was like ‘oh **** it is Andy.’”

What could make a three-time Grand Slam champion so unrecognisable? “He’s lost a bit of weight I think.” the Australian explained, and it is no surprise; to have Murray’s physique you need to be able to work at it every day. It seems like the Brit has not been able to train as much as he wants and that could be so demoralising for a player who thrives off of hard work.

“HE TOLD ME HE’S HITTING ABOUT 45 MINUTES A DAY.”

I love to look on the bright side of everything, but if you are only hitting 45 minutes a day then surely you could not compete in a best-of-five, fourteen-day event that starts in less than a month. Kokkinakis would be surprised if he can make his return at the Queen’s Club, “So if he’s ready [for Queen’s], hats off to him.”

Andy Murray would not give that information to many players on the tour. However, he and Kokkinakis have a special relationship, which the Australian opened up about, “He’s been a super good guy to me ever since I started on tour.”

The former World #1 is one of the most popular players in the locker room and you can see why, “We played doubles together when I was 18 at Indian Wells.”

The 22-year-old has gone through many injury problems of his own, at such a young age. Despite this, Kokkinakis knows he’s in a very different position to Murray, “I know he’s had some injuries, but he has been there and done that. For me I’m still trying to get up there.”

Although the tour is a competition, there is great camaraderie amongst the players and the Australian just wants to see his good friend back on the circuit, “I wish him all the best because he’s an unbelievable player and tennis is for sure better with him.”

Tennis is definitely better when we have all-time great competing on a regular basis. Andy Murray is next scheduled to play Queen’s and then Wimbledon. If he is hitting only 45 minutes a day then that seems extremely unlikely to happen. Let’s hope we get to see the former World #1 at some stage in 2018.

Judy Murray has sort of been dropping hints since February that Andy's progress isn't that great and he's struggling to regain fitness. If he's only hitting for 45 minutes a day in mid-June, there is no way he'll be ready to play a tournament, especially a BO5 format at Wimbledon. Hope the hip surgery doesn't end his career completely. :(

No offence to prostitutes. They are a part of the society and are great. So much better than the people that judge them and also much better than the politicians. They are harmless.

Until you get STD.
Prostitutes are not born with STDs. People give it to them. Also if condoms are used properly most(not all) STD can be prevented.
"Condoms are very effective at preventing infections. It really doesn't matter whether the person you had sex with was a prostitute, someone you met online, your wife or your best friend. Condoms work just as well, whoever the partner is."

Although I agree they aren't completely harmless in the sense you speak. But you know what i meant by calling them harmless lol:p

How do you prevent this?

Plus having sex with a condom is like eating chocolate with the wrap on.

That's like asking how do we prevent someone with a licensed gun from murdering someone. Not everyone with a licensed gun murders someone similarly not all prostitutes do that kind of activity. We can't blame the concept of issuing licensed guns to people(although I don't like the concept). In the same way we can't blame prostitution for this. These are unfortunate and rare events and that's pretty much it.

It’s looking like Murray is done. If so, no regrets if I were him. He got to #1 and won Wimbledon in his push to the top ranking. Couldn’t have gone out on better terms. Now he can focus on running his mom’s hotel.

That’s just to argue they can get a bit harmful from time to time, but I’ll leave them alone. They’ve clearly been very good to you :):D

Lol :p no I don't believe in giving money to have something as pure as sex but I respect those who do it because they obviously feel different than me. But yes I have met two prostitutes in the train. They were indeed very good to me:D. They were honest about their profession and didn't hesitate and were comfortable when I asked a few questions.

Judging by this pic taken at his 31st birthday party last month, he does look a bit skinny although still recognisably him.

If Andy Murray doesnt play Wimbledon he will have zero ATP rankings points in Mid July I think. In July of 2017 - he was Number one - cruel.Look how fast the things can change in the tennis
I believe the Scot was number one as recent as August 20, 2017. He was also the second seed ahead of Fed at the USO before he pulled out. And now he's a couple weeks from being completely removed from the world rankings. Wow, no lie that's pretty crazy; well sad but crazy. :(

I never got the invective against Andy here. Yes, he had his faults, as they all do, but it's better for tennis to have him out there.

I have to say his antics annoyed me at times but it made me laugh as well. The guy’s a competitor. Come back Andy!!!!!! I can’t believe i am saying that lol.
