Ilie Nastase has been involved in three separate incidents involving racist and abusive comments in two days.Reuters

Romania's Fed Cup captain Ilie Nastase sparked chaos during a match against Great Britain on Saturday (22 April) which resulted in him to be escorted off the court.

Great Britain's Johanna Konta was left in tears by the incident but rallied superbly to defeat her Romanian opponent Sorana Cirstea 6-2 6-3 and level the tie in Constanta.

After winning the opening set, Konta trailed Cirstea 2-1 in the second set of their second rubber match of their World Group II play-off when the disturbance arose.

According to Press Association, Nastase was heard saying to the umpire "What is your f*****g problem?", before calling Konta and Great Britain captain Anne Keothavong "f*****g b*****s."

Nastase initially tried to take a seat in the stands after he was ordered off the court before he was eventually escorted back to the locker rooms.

Romania's Simona Halep attempted to calm the crowd with Konta left visibly upset as play resumed. The British no. 1 dropped serve in the next game to fall 3-1 behind, prompting the umpire to suspend play for 25 minutes.

Once the match resumed on court, Konta took control of the contest once again, winning the next five games to level the tie between the two countries at 1-1. Earlier on Saturday morning, Simona Halep's win over Heather Watson saw Romania take the lead in the tie with her 6-4 6-1 win.

The Fed Cup match between Romania and Great Britain has been marred by Nastase's behaviour. On Friday, he found himself embroiled in a racism storm after being heard making a derogatory comment about Serena Williams' unborn child. He was overheard telling his teammates in Romanian: "Let's see what colour it has. Chocolate with milk?"

Williams revealed earlier this week that she is 20 weeks pregnant with fiance Alexis Ohanian.

On Saturday morning, Nastase was involved in a row with Press Association Sport reporter Eleanor Crooks, calling her "stupid" for reporting his alleged racist comments made the previous day.

That's not a "rival". More like Nasty showing how to really act mean and tough (true ******).

"Nasty" Nastase was one of the Original Bad Boys of tennis. Kyrgios doesn't quite match up to him in that regard, and still has much to learn. All bad stuff to "learn" of course.

The problem is, I doubt Kyrgios would ever be racist. He's heard an insane amount of racism, I mean, he's half-Malaysian, half-Greek Just a peek in the Youtube comments will unveil a storeroom of racist remarks that even NK has the dignity to not say, and that's saying something.

According to Romanian Tennis Fed president George Cosac the baby comment was a joke and he aint racist because he's a good friend of Yannick Noah and played great matches with Arthur Ashe

They are both good at hurting women's feelings. Kyrgios publicly said Thanasi banged a woman. Nastase used the word bit***s to describe women nearby him and these women are respected member of tennis community. They both did not respect women or a woman and treat them or her like trash.

Tennis needs more 'villains' like Nastase. Look at how much press Nastase's recent comments have gotten. There's no such thing as bad press.

All Kyrgios does is say tame stuff to the effect of "your girlfriend cheated on you"... That's meant to be controversial? Wake me up when he actually says something truly offensive or when he truly commits an act of extreme violence (i.e. the type that would land him in jail if he didn't have top-drawer lawyers) - THAT is what tennis needs to remain relevant in the modern age.

So some of you think it is ok to say in public that somebody banged somebody else's girlfriend?

What if your opponent in a tennis match says that he banged your wife last night?

Don't people have feelings?

So getting your feelings hurt gets you a 25min time out?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disqualification_(tennis)

Disqualifications in tennis can occur for unsporting conduct.

ATP rules state that:

Players shall not at any time physically abuse any official, opponent, spectator or other person within the precincts of the tournament site. For purposes of this rule, physical abuse is the unauthorized touching of an official, opponent, and spectator or other person.[

  • In 1996 Irina Spîrlea was disqualified for abusive language directed at an official.[3]

@@@@

I'm pretty sure it would have been within the umpire's right to disqualify the Romanian player based on her coach/captain's (lack of) behaviour.
In that respect, a 25 mns timeout seems pretty uncontroversial, don't you think?
