Kyrgios is a much more naturallly gifted player than Federer

Federer gets called the most natural player on the ATP tour, but I think with Nick eating Gyrios and playing video games and still beating people at Wimbledon, he might just be one of the most naturally gifted players ever.
First off, the image of Nick 'eating gyros' and half-assing it would reveal itself in an expanded Nalbandian-like waistline -- not the case. A form of coy sandbagging...

Secondly, while you're free to hold to the opinion that Kyrgios is more talented than Federer, to qualify it further by saying he's "much more" (as in the thread title) is patently absurd and worthy of being tossed in the "my favourite male tennis idol's better that your favourite male tennis idol" garbage pail.

He might be the best athlete but IMO Kyrgios greatest attribute is his unpredictability on the court. Mostly all the players have a pattern of play and he does not. It is one of the reasons he doesn't want a couch. A couch is going to have him play a certain way and fine tune that way. Kyrgios enjoys being a mid level player, go to the 3rd or 4th round of a major, win a lower level tournament every so often and just enjoy life with no pressure of being the best.

Nick acts like he sits on the couch all day, but he is either lifting weights or playing basketball because otherwise I think he'd be a lot chubbier rn. If it is the latter, I am not surprised. I bet the basketball really helps with his footwork. Everybody thinks you can just sit around all day hitting forehand after forehand, but playing other sports can help you with other aspects of your game.

As another example, they just had Nole looking like he was doing pilates. You can imagine how that helps him with his particular game.

Don’t underestimate basketball in building leg and arm strength and improving the footwork. I think every tennis player should play basketball as part of the training.

Agreed. Nalbandian, Mecir, Rios, Kyrgios then Federer or Safin.

Nobody really thinks he isn't training, are they?
There is no way he can serve that well consistently without regular training. The quality of serve is not like riding a bike, it's perishable.
And his return game is as good as it ever was.

Secondly, his shoulder and arm would fall apart if he didn't work out in the gym, with the stress his service motion puts on them (he has a very fast and compact motion).

I'm not. I definitely think it's good for Kyrgios. Although for the general case, I think it depends on the player.

I agree. While Fed is still most talented of all big 3 he actually put tremendous work into developing his skill. Kyrgios pure physical and shotmaking ability and pure power are ridiculous

It's funny that Kyrgios' mere presence on the tour, no matter how small or insignificant, is still enough to trigger so many people around here.

Don't worry, he's not gonna beat your guy or take any titles from him.

Awful opinion. Nick’s talent is way overrated. If any player in the Top 100 wants to mess around the way Nick does they’d be considered “talented” as well. Bublik is a walking example that Nick’s trick shots ain’t anything special.

Yes physically. Mental talent is actually a thing in tennis though, and kyrgios is lacking way behind federer.

Self discipline
Mental toughness
Keeping composure under pressure
Resiliency
Clutchness
Making adjustments

There are others but I would classify these as attributes of mental talent.

He can serve very well. He has not much talent at anything else. I dare anyone to name another stroke/aspect of physicality/movement that he is above average at in the top 50.

Bublik is crazy talented too. These guys come along every once in a while. Mad geniuses. That's what Kyrgios is.

Being talented doesn’t make you a great player. So no. It takes more than just talent. Apparently kyrgios doesn’t have the rest of the intangibles. Naturally gifted doesn’t mean squat at the end of the day if you lack other stuff.

Yeah not really. Gilles Simon is the most unimaginative player of all time but he can pull off any of those Bublik/Kyrgios shots no problem. It’s just he wants to win and not play like a clown so.

Right, I'm sure he can do all that stuff no problem. lol

Agree. Nick is one of the most (probably THE most) talented humans to ever pick up a racquet.

I am sure there are numerous NFL wide outs and defensive backs that have actually touched a racquet but weren’t motivated to become tennis professionals. If I could handpick some NBA guys at 5 yrs old to play tennis instead, and add them to the NFL guys, it is possible Rafa and Djoker would be playing on outside courts.

The only athletic event you probably know you have the best at what they do lined up to compete is the 100m.

Debate over talent of professional players is a pointless waste of time.

It can hardly be measured, and is far from enough to win titles.

It's only important to be recognized in young kids on time, so there's a quality soil to be worked on, that is all.

Having potential and reaching/achieving your full potential is very different.

Undeniable that Kyrgios is very talented. But he doesn’t like tennis, he doesn’t train very hard, he will never achieve his full potential.

If Federer had inherited Kyrgios (lack of) commitment to the game, he’d not be who he is. Hard to tell how bad he would be. However if Kyrgios had inherited Federer’s commitment to the game, he’d be a slam winner by now.

I think talent is not enough if you don’t commit, and commitment is not enough without talent. Federer has both. Kyrgios is entertaining and unpredictable. Federer is goat.

Can be, if gifts don’t include brains.

Fed was never the workaholic that Djok and Nadal are, he has been described as lazy. He's one or two character-building events removed from being just like Nick.
