I'm actually with Kyrgios on this one. What an insane rule that you can't get treatment for an existing issue. What would they rather, the player retire in the final or worsen their injury and miss multiple tournaments? Absurd, especially since Ryan was allowed to change off court which he could've done on court. Players can take fake MTO all the time and yet when someone needs it, they get denied? Ridiculous.

Good to see anything that annoys this brat.

Bow down to the king.

I think this is a tough spot to be in. It is made worse by Harrison taking such a long break to change clothes. The optics are terrible because of that. For once a Nick issue in the news that he isnt to blame for. I really dont blame him for that.

There should be NO times out for ANY reason, especially for a clothes change!

So if a player is injured, he should go on court pretending he has no injury issues in order to be able to take an MTO? I would like someone in the ATP to explain the logic to me. Does that mean that Delpo can never take an MTO for his wrist, Murray can' take an MTO for his hip, Djoker can't take an MTO for his elbow, Federer can't take an MTO for his back?

No MTOs for pre-existing injuries is a sensible rule.

Players entering tournaments while injured has clearly been a big problem on tour. This rule provides a small incentive against it, and then there's the issue of prize money.
They penalise them for not playing mandatory tournaments because they are injured, yet they refuse them MTOs during a match for a pre-existing injury.

I think we all know that tennis has a real problem with enforcing rules. This seems like one that needs changing anyway, can't believe they would rather a player worsen their injury and retire instead of letting them get treatment. Nobody wants that.

Tennis has a problem, certainly. Traditionalists at top haven’t caught up to the need we all have today for quicker and better information. Stats, time outs, injuries, formats, disbursements.

They basically haven’t caught up to the internet. A space where cranky folk like the one below can get on to take potshots with impunity. Not only because it allows for anonymity but especially in tennis, because it also allows for lack of clarity.

They are overdoing it now to be able to show leniency later, when Nadal needs additional rest or wants to play his little gamesmanship.
