Kyrgios is highly overrated

Not a huge KG fan but despite his asinine behavior he played a great match. Could have been smarter at times but you could say the same for Grigor, who won by the margin of three TBs.

Grigor is in the QFs and has a great shot to make the finals. Don't think this match says anything negative in regards to Nick's level/talent.

That said, "overrated" is a subjective term. I do not see Nick as being close to winning a slam currently. That could change. If someone is pegging him to win in Paris or even IW/Miami I'd say they are overrating him.

LOL. Safin moved so much better than Kyrgios it's not even worth discussing.
The point is moot, agree to disagree. I have three of his personal racquets from his career, he was my favorite player for some time; dearest Safin, forgive my treachery.

To have a prayer at ever winning a slam, he'd have to spend virtually the next year on a treadmill. Dimitrov just completely outclassed him in the fitness department. By week two in a slam, you'd better have your fitness dialed in, or you crash and burn. A fortnight of five setters is a brutal schedule in the era of grinding.

Nick is the poster child of spoiled millennials everywhere. "Instagram and video games should be effort enough."

In reality, the big prizes in all walks of life tend to go to the harder workers. We all know that's never gonna be Nick.

Appreciate him for the gimmick he is. Don't try to push professional aspirations on him. He's not built for that.

So true.

Let's not be too quick to suggest Krygios is typical of a whole generation and he is only five years younger than Dimitrov.

There's still time for Nick. Fed didn't come into his own till 2004 when he was 23, Nadal didn't rise to the top until 2008 when he was 22, and Nole didn't make his ascendance until 2011 when he was 24.

Kyrgios lost in 4 sets against Grigor Dimitrov in a grand slam.

Since when did taking a set off Dimitrov indicate that someone is a potential great? lmao

Pretty mind blowing how low the bar is for young players these days. Remember when people thought Murray was garbage because he hadnt managed to win a slam yet at the same age? He made 2 slams finals by the time he was Kyrgios' current age

Federer won wimbledon at 21
Nadal won Roland Garros 4 times before he was 23
Djokovic won the Aus open at age 20. He won 2 grand slams before he turned 24.

Kyrgios turns 23 before the next grand slam and has made 2 quarter finals total, none since 2015.

By this generation, your referring to the thiem, coric generation? Kyrgios is more talented than Marat Safin; perhaps Nick uses too much topspin at times and could certainly work on his backhand and generating a heavier ball but overrated at 22? At his age, the only measurable is talent, and he blows thiem, who is more accomplished if unremarkably so, out of the water in this respect. His second serve may go down as the second greatest to Sampras or even surpass it, blasphemy I know. He is a head case, may have a personality disorder, but even if he never wins a grand slam, fans will always cringe when hearing his name, knowing full well, what he could have been, the talent he possesses is quite special.

Wouldn't say he's more talented than Safin. Safin won a slam at 20. And I say this as someone who cringes every time the Safin nostalgias and what could've beens are brought up here, and that happens a lot. Way too much in fact. I also rate the Kyrgios serve highly, but 2nd best to Sampras is a bit much. Just because he's "fearless" and goes for the big serve often doesn't make it 2nd best to Sampras. He also DFs a fair bit going after that 2nd serve.

Did you see the Dimitrov that beat Kyrgios? He was almost flawless, playing magnificently. This is the type of performance required these days to beat Kyrgios. So no - he is not overrated.
