Kyrgios & Johnny Mac; Laver Cup Strange Relationship Dynamics

Legend
I think we all are aware that John McEnroe has had some words for Kyrgios in the past on his tankings and behavior and Kyrgios has also replied back to him I believe.

Well during the Berdych/Kyrgios match, the changeovers were quite revealing. At first Kyrgios got broken and he kept saying about not being warm enough and Mac was like well lets do something about it. And Kyrgios was like I dont know what to do I'm not a physio. Then there were comments about Mac reassuring Kyrgios that he looks like a team player, and that to just go on in and play for the team etc. Not very positive exchanges in general. Very awkward.

Then at 4-3 changeover, McEnroe said something along the lines of how Kyrgios's body language was not helping and Kyrgios said thats who I am.

I have a feeling there is some bad blood between the two. Maybe some unresolved feelings. Anyone else feel the same? Was bound to be an awkward relationship from the get go.

McEnroe says positive things only about Rafa but he went on to call him SOB today .

McEnroe is upset about Team World capitulation.

The winning might help reduce the tension. Kyrgios don't give a **** attitude clashes with the Legendary McEnroe approach.

McEnroe wants Kyrgios to fight, to dig deep etc. How can you achieve success in tennis if you are scared to commit to fighting when things get tough? Kyrgios did well to come out of it with the victory, so fair play to him. There was a brief period when I thought Kyrgios was going to quit during the match, when McEnroe was trying to motivate him.

Kyrgios seems difficult to coach.
Johnny is a little high strung.

Ths combination brought to you by

LOL! Good one. :) Mac is a prima donna and probably expects these young whipper snappers to kiss his ass and respect him as an ATG and elder of the game. Nick couldn't care less about that and doesn't show much respect for anybody, even fellow Aussies like Laver or Rosewall.

A really bad mix.

I suspect Kyrgios has a strange relationship dynamic with pretty much anyone you care to name.

But he seems to be enjoying himself in Prague. Never seen him smile so much!

I've seen him just as happy quite a lot. Well, not too proud to admit this, but I watch him play doubles, DC, exo (no, even silly exos, not this one) maybe a lot. Have been saying this forever - he looks very different in team play. Truly a team player. :)

McEnroe likes Nick. A lot. He wants to become his coach. (Well, even Sampras, who has no interest in coaching, wants to coach him.)

He criticised him quite harshly for his tanking and attitude (who didn't?), which only makes sense. The thing is, he cares. He sympathises with him, said they're pretty similar.

Kyrgios in his usual way snapped back, "Ask McEnroe. He knows verything." Usual victim/teenager's angry attitude. Like him against 9/10 of the tennis world.

But he's been getting better, slowly, gradually. Actually a much warmer and more sensitive guy than he lets on. He cares about people around him. Maybe more than himself. Very much still a kid though.

He'll get John someday. Hopefully during/after this LC. I have no doubt McEnroe only means well for him. I'm his fan and I feel like I get him quite a bit. I also like Kyrgios so that helps me get him a bit as well, me think.
