Kyrgios :" My god. Excluding Gasquet, cuz he playing for just points this is just sad man. No wonder we are going backwards".

Clay sucks, big time but Kyrgios saying this? He looks like an absolute twat, he's not even playing tennis and he's slamming other players who are out there winning matches? Embarrassing.
Nah, I don't quite take it that way. I think he is inferring that people are feeling forced to put themselves through the slog that is clay tennis just to keep up with points/$.

Shut the **** up Nick. He isn't even willing to play tennis currently and he's criticizing tournaments and players who are trying their best? I wish the tour would just ban him at this point and send him to the irrelevancy he deserves. He's a sad, pathetic troll.
No need to ban him, somebody need to ignite his pasion for tennis, he is very good player

Nick has a point that this is July end and we are still on clay.

That said, there is still pandemic and the economic fallout is we have to put up with crapola

Nick has not played a tournament except Australian Open and Wimbledon. He is no one to talk.

Those players like Ramos, Djere and Alcaraz are all good clay players so that point is moot. Also let's not act like the reason the draws are weak is because the tournaments were held the week of the Olympics? Like come on, of course the draws are bad.

No point, Newport was on grass and Los Cabos, Atlanta is on hard, now tell me how many big players are playing.
At july end these tournaments are played by small players for money

IDK what to tell you Nick, there are a lot of clay tournaments in S America and Europe and they cant jam all of them right before Roland Garros. There is nothing wrong with having tournaments on different surfaces at the same time. You may not prefer to play clay over hardcourt but there are many players that do.

He shows so much disrespect to this sport. Imagine sledging a tournament with a stadium court named after Roy Emerson, a legend from Australia, and you yourself are Australian. My goodness. Some of these tournaments have been around for over 100 years and legends have won their 1st titles playing clay tournaments in this part of the year, when top players are resting and they have a chance to make a breakthrough and win their 1st title. Clay may not be your favorite surface but clay is tennis.

There used to be clay court tournaments all the way through from the beginning of February to the end of October, sometimes into November. For example, in 1995, the Buenos Aires event was played from 6-13 November.

Clay is the major surface throughout the whole of mediterranean Europe, North Africa, and Latin America, as well as in many other parts of Europe.

He is not wrong, I feel the same more or less.

But why the comment about Gasquet? Why single-out THIS ONE? This looks bad. Gasquet is 35 years old. The end is near for him. I don't blame him for playing these ATP250 on clay. This is where he has the most chances to go deep. He still has a honorable level and ranking. He wasn't ridiculous against Nadal and Federer in Roland and Wimbledon. I would take Gasquet's tennis and his career over Kyrgios' in a heartbeat, if I could choose one.

Since when are 250s supposed to have elite draws. They are usually where players too good for challengers but not quite good enough to compete for the top titles (somewhere around Kyrgios’ ranking for example) to grind. Occasionally you’ll get top players warming up for bigger events but these caliber draws exist every year.

These tournaments have been played for years, decades and it’s just a problem now? At least they’re playing which is more than I can say for Nick. It’s Summer in Europe and it’s the dominant surface that the players grow up on...what else are they supposed to play on? I never paid attention to this part of the season because I used to not like clay at all. it’s still not my favorite surface. But players need to earn a living. It’s beyond obvious that a lot of so-called fans don’t seem to care about that.

Thank god he has no idea about this week’s WTA tournaments.

The tournament in Poland (Gdnya or something like that) must be breaking records lol. I looked at the last 8 players in QF. 4 of them, I had NEVER heard the names until this week. 2 of them, I just discovered them last week in Prague and Lausanne (Zanevska and Parrizas). The last 2 their names are vaguely familiar but I've never seen them playing (Korpatsch and Kozlova) And I am a WTA fan. This is just tue weirdest draw I have ever seen.

Same here, dont even like clay too much but these tournaments are important for lower ranked players for points and money
