Those who want to know the reason why are free to look for it (shouldn't be too hard to find).

Wonder whether this is catching and others may also decide not to come?

Edit: apologies if this isn't really news, didn't see it anywhere on the forum before posting.

"I’ve got no problem with the USTA putting on the US Open, and if players want to go that’s up to them.
“So long as everyone acts appropriately and acts safely ... You can’t be dancing on tables, money-grabbing your way around Europe or trying to make a quick buck hosting an exhibition.
“That’s just so selfish. Act responsibly."

What a pathetic record.
Kyrgios has become a placeholder for a second round loss. We have had enough of this tiresome bore. Good riddance!
Lol.

Here's a direct quote: “I’m one of the best grass-courters in the world on my day so I know that I can back myself under pressure on this surface. I’ve always felt pretty comfortable on the grass.”

Kyrgios grass record over the last three years: 9-8 :-D

Truly pathetic guy that gets pass in media and with "fans" - unbelievable actually. Among other things, stays relevant by calling out legends of the sport while not having any self awareness or dignity nor the results to back him up at least.

Nationalism rears its ugly head yet again! A lot of players aren't coming. You'll just have to deal with your country's loss of prestige.

What a pathetic USO record.

That is speculation on your part.

Kyrgios and Ashley Bartley can hide under their beds. Will not be missed.

All indications are that Djoker, Rafa, Thiem, Medvedev Zverev and Tsisipas will be coming.

The 6 best active players in the world at the moment.

More excitement!

Do you honestly, honestly think it will just be Kyrgios and Barty withdrawing from the USO? (by the way please go back to school to learn people's names as you look like an uneducated fool)

Sorry to tell you Nick, or mate, you weren't going to win it anyway or get to the semis.
Nick has better things to do than be in a grand slam. oh yeah, okay.
It would be fitting if Sasha won it and called Nick out in his winners speech.
Selfish is not playing in front of paying fans who will be mandatorily distanced.
Unless he and his crew are just irresponsible and asymptomatic spreaders he is missing out on another 2nd rd slam loss.

I won’t actively miss Barty, but I do like watching Barty, and at least she didn’t turn this into an opportunity for sanctimony.

The early rounds are supposed to be walkovers over low tier players and qualifiers.

How does a Top 20 player consistently lose in the first or second round of the USO for the last seven years?

He's free to pull out and I don't judge him for that. I do think he's the only one to make a whiny little show of it to make himself feel relevant.

The level of self-sacrifice to save his Aussies and America from the modern day bubonic plague is nothing short of Christ-like! :notworthy: St. Nicholas Gyrios should be the patron saint of ALL athletes!

On a sad note, due to reckless covid deniers Melbourne has announced a State of Disaster and Stage 4 Lockdown with strict curfews! TRAGIC!

A 2-year lockdown is absolutely proportional and justified!

It's really been ridiculous to see so many grown-ass people high-five this brat for simply acting like any sentient 25-year-old should with respect to this pandemic. What next, give him cookies for being potty trained? Get some perspective and save the applause for those frontline workers who've had to make real sacrifices.

Nick Kyrgios is a morally superior individual. . We can only aspire to be 1/10th the person St. Nick is.
.
Amen brother! :notworthy:(y)

I wish the Mafia and drug lords in America were as brave and self-sacrificing as those in Colombia!

Has been a recurring theme in Kyrgios' whole career: skipping lots of tournaments, sometimes for trivial reasons like 'not feeling to play'.

So of course when he has a valid reason, he is not going to play. Maybe he won't even play all year.

Maybe he's honest and he doesn't play because of the virus, or it's just an opportune excuse for his laziness.
