Kyrgios tells it like it is; again

This is why some people love Kyrgios, he speaks his mind. Reporter asks a question that is irrelevant and doesn't belong in a tennis press conference, fishing for a story. Kyrgios tells him straight why are you asking me this. Good on you Nick.

also calls his next opponent a journeyman... ;)

-"He's a good player, i have to be at my best to win, i'm not thinking past this match, i'm just happy to be back playing." What Rafa or Murray would have said about Troicki :p

How can you not like the guy? He could be the one of the few reasons I'll keep watching tennis after the big boys retire.

Plenty of people say how bad he is for tennis, yet they still watch him and talk about him. He's box office, whether the haters like it or not!

His press conferences are far more interesting than his yucky tennis. Virus, we found your successor.

Kudos to him on responding that way to the reporter.

He's fun to watch. I guess people are more upset that they can't get to watch his talent consistently on display than any other reason.

Fans have a way of forgiving a lot of things if a player just brings it tennis-wise. Ex. - McEnroe

Common denominator is both have positive h2h against Novack

Rogi may also join them if things go well next few months !
Nah, they are just dull. You won't ever see me bashing Safin, Gonzo and Zverev this way, or Federer and Nadal in the past.

Maybe. But let's not complain about age and court speeds again if things don't "go well".

^^ He side stepped one controversy, but then tripped up anyway, needlessly calling Troicki a journeyman. It was too long of an interview for Nick to not end up with his foot in his mouth.
I mean what's wrong with it, Troicki has never made that breakthru and only has 3 career titles. So one he's not a top player and two he's not even in the next level of players that are the top 20. So...it's probably debatable at this point to call him a journeyman. I don't see him moving much above his current 50-60 ranking anytime soon.

Common courtesy, respect and class. By that yardstick, Nadal and Federer would call almost all other players also rans.

The second part of your response doesn't necessarily have to tie in with the first though. It's not a good reason to like someone. Nobody should like him just because he might be (and that's still a might) the only one with potential out of a bunch of thoroughly mediocre players.

This is why compulsory media obligations are bull***, just fishing expeditions for headlines, for as many words as possible for someone to be able to find a grievance.
There is almost no correct answer to any question for Nick Kyrgios now. Media is supposed to be outsider reporting on the events, the sport, not the sportsmen having to perform for the media to give media the performance, the meal, that they want, like they are the more important one.

If media is demonstratingly provoking and aggressive, then Nick Kyrgios has the right to not be forced in this provoking aggressive situation. He should get a PR manager to sit in and take all questions for self defence. **** the ATP. Private business owning players like slaves. Sitting players on a stool for journalist to throw stones at. They would attack Rios the same way. Exaggerate stories, and attack, because it makes the headlines.

Unless they're up and coming / young or in the top 20-30, I'd say it's an acceptable terminology. Add to that he's almost 32, no one is expecting him to make any sort of splash at meaningful tournaments. There's no shame in that though, it is what it is.

Yup, but it would be wise to wait until after his match with the guy!

Yes, what a hero. Truly an outstanding citizen. Such a nice human being. Deserving of several medals and the Nobel Peace Prize.

On the other hand... no, the guy is a punk and a doushe.

My boy. Kyrgios haters can go back to chess tbh. Tennis was always filled with badboys as the top dogs as well, Fedalovic murray are just exceptions. Hell people loved Agassi, a drug addict and sampras who was known to be an uptight *****. Jesus.

Very true. All sins forgiven in the world of sports if you commit to the battle. But you do have to win or go down swinging - it's all about the warrior. That's the fight Nick has to win.

Who remembers Duran as the great fighter he was? I'd guess most remember him as a quitter - "no mas". Nick is attractive to us fans because his game has huge potential. But he has to find the warrior in him to win us over. Having a loud mouth without backing it up is just being a loud mouth.

Since Kyrgios likes to tell it like it is, when will he tell that he's an oaf and a coward?

Still like to watch him play, unfortunately his matches are rarely broadcasted, I suspect some anti-Kyrgios bias from media.

I am rooting for Kyrgios. Personality is exactly what tennis needs!
Today’s players are all perfectly polite, and get along with everyone else. Boring!
Sampras killed American tennis, just a generic cyborg clone bot with the media personality of a bowl of milk.
Most people have never even heard of Fedal, they are just boring scripted PR machine robots also.
I think that is why tennis has steadily dwindled in popularity since it peaked in the late 70s/early 80s (Connors, Mac, etc)

Frankly, the rest of the Kyrgios "library" is meh, just a guy trying to be flashy, controversial, etc., but that line he crossed with Wawrinka is one that is very difficult to come back from.

I applaud him for calling out the reporter. No doubt there will be a slew of articles calling him a ***** or whatever(this is what they do-when an athlete turns the tables, they circle the wagons and make him the bad guy), but as sanitago_rios says, they are looking to have it all done for them, and if you don't they will make you look bad.

Agree and very few sportsmen have anything to say worth hearing anyway.

Silly question but obviously not the best way to handle it. A pro like Roger whose friends are more classy individuals like Tiger Woods & John Cena of course, would have answered politely before moving on. The impression NK gives again is one of petulance.

Tiger Woods classy? He of the "I won't give an interview to Peter Kostis because he didn't say my swing was perfect?" Not to mention the rest.

And Federer has not had much use for Woods since things came out.

Good thing i bet 40k on st. Nick.

He's got talent and attitude, much like a young johnny Mac, but until he wins a slam he won't win over the rest of the world.

But that's why i like him, he doesn't give a flying flip.

Troicki is a journeyman.

That's true he is but from the mouth of St. Nick it sounds a bit like a case of it takes one to know one. After all, he has a grand total of 4 titles to Victor's 3 with just 1 at 500 level so what tremendous things has Nick achieved so far in his short career that he can afford to look down his nose at someone like Victor? o_O

Nick is letting the work turn into a shoot, dude.
