Kyrgios called the event a "circus" and complained about the "f---ing surface" during the match, slamming his racket. He also reportedly complained about the ball kids.

"They were talking in the middle of the points," Kyrgios said of cameramen during his match. "I was just expecting a lot more obviously from a Masters event. You're not going to see Roger [Federer] or Rafa [Rafael Nadal] playing on a court like that. They're always playing on center court, where things usually go pretty smoothly."

He is doing the smart thing.

Get that suspension out of his way ASAP so that it is not a problem for the new season.

Now, this is what I call reasoning and scheduling (unlike other players ;) )

I thought for suspension he needed to accumulate $5000 in fines. So he still has $3500 to go. It is a joke really.

Well that's one way to become the #1 by missing weeks of Tennis, Nick. Grand job.

Or is this a new GOAT strategy that us mere heathens cannot comprehend from Saint Nick?

I dont understand what is his problem. How can he compare himself with Roger and Rafa that they are getting centre court and he is not, centre court is awarded on the basis of your rank and seeding. First get to that level then complain. Last year's win against Rafa really got into head of his entourage and i reckon they inculcated in due course of time that you are the next big thing.
Age is not an excuse, as he often states, people of his age go to colleges and are more disciplined.

On a lighter note, did he not get his pre match se***l inter***** which helps him to be in high spirits, was that the reason for his disputatious and cantankerous mood? ;):D

Yeah, they're desperately trying NOT to fine him $5k. He's desperately trying to be suspended I guess. I thought what I had heard at the USO was that any incident during the probation period would get him the suspension.

So Nick Kyrios, a player who demonstrates the lowest standard of conduct;
Shows blatant disrespect for the game and of its players, and hasn't made a final appearance of anything important (that I can think of).
Now demands the elite treatment equal to that of tour champs Roger and Nadal?

Let me laugh even harder.

You're not going to see Roger [Federer] or Rafa [Rafael Nadal] playing on a court like that. They're always playing on center court, where things usually go pretty smoothly."

I was at the Grandstand court (the second-biggest after Stadium court) sitting right behind the court, a few metres from the players and the playing surface.

First of all, his was the very first match of the entire tournament. So, quite a few things were indeed not up to standard. The ball kids looked quite lost at times especially given the fact that Kyrgios, Sampras-style, only asked for one ball at a time and whenever he missed a first serve he then needed another ball which often came a few seconds late. The kids also ran around quite a bit while balls somehow rolled around unattended. Then the cameramen were sitting on squeaky chairs which also scraped audibly on the court surface (it was rectified after the match with new chairs and a rubber mat). The 'talking' he refers to was, I believe, the cameramen overly loud headphones which was also rectified later.

Truth be told, though, Nick is so highly strung that it looked like he was just looking for anything to complain about and if it weren't these things he would have found something else. He looked sour all the time and left the court without signing autographs even though there were young kids waiting.

The next match provided a huge contrast with Dominic Thiem and Lu Yen-Hsun of Taiwan playing an entertaining match without a single complaint being uttered even though the ball kids were still pretty lost; Thiem was extremely composed and very friendly... and, oh, that backhand!! In the third match Feliciano Lopez (vs. Andreev in a very entertaining match) made a couple of complaints about the ball kids but that was it; he also completely shrugged off one lost ball girl almost taking him out Chase Utley style while he was preparing to receive serve. I shudder to think what Kyrgios would have done in that situation.

In summary, while Nick K. was technically right to complain about most things (there was nothing wrong with the surface) he did make a big thing of it all and generally came across as a thin-skinned whiner. And yes, when observed live, next to Thiem his game looks pretty meh (based on one match, granted). If he wants to be regularly given Centre Court time (Stadium Court here) he better start bringing something more to the table than a boring game and a cr*ppy attitude, IMO.

Edit: I think it is fair to add that while Kyrgios did come across as a moody killjoy he was in no way abusive or over the top in any of his actions. He never abused or shouted at any of the people who irritated him; it was either muttered under his breath or addressed to the ump (Bernardes). He didn't 'slam' his racquet down either unless I missed it and I don't think I did; he just let it bounce off the tip and it came back to his hand. So while he wasn't any fun to watch behaviour-wise he never crossed into any abusive territory. I don't think what he showed on the court warranted a fine; it is either something he said/did after the match or it simply means that his reputation now works against him.

I hope Kyrgios bucks up his attitude, he's a talent and as a fan of tennis I want to see talent.

Excellent post. I watched the match on TV and he seemed generally irritated at times, but nothing too bad. He does need to get over a few things, though. Maybe he should think about decaf instead of regular coffee. Something . . .

Thanks... this is exactly the impression he left with me. Nothing really bad or seriously off-putting but you wouldn't want your weekend playing partner being in this mood all the time.

So, if he didn't actually abuse anybody, what exactly is he being suspended for? o_O
I don't think the tournament director and others appreciate him calling the event a "circus" and dropping f-bombs. But hey, maybe you don't mind f-bombs all the time, being a Murray fan and all :p He hasn't been suspended yet...I believe OP is just suggesting that Kyrgios is acting up again, and it's more than likely that he'll accrue enough fines to get suspended.

He does not compare himself with Roger or Rafa.

He just made a comment that they will not take chances with a bad court when it comes to the marquee players.

Way to misinterpret his comment.

Thanks for a post that's actually informative AND on topic!

How many posts do you want to clog up this thread with? Nobody even mentions skin color until you brought it up. You were basically trying to bait out an argument when there shouldn't be one in the first place. Kyrgios is a jerk. There's not much else to it.
see post 22.

and try and follow context so you could perhaps productively add to the conversation.

and why would you pick my Eddie Murphy post to respond so poorly to? that had nothing to do with race, but with Paul Murphy's lack of comedic ability.

try and keep up!

He's not being suspended. The article says he "edges closer" to 4-week ban with the incident.

That’s the impression I got as well. The article says he has a $5,000 fine allowance through February. Do we know what his current running balance is, including this $1,500 fine?

And what are these anyway, USD, AUD, HKD, RMB, or something else?

Thanks! It is interesting how things don't always look that bad when seen live as they unfold. Last year I was sitting in the very same seats watching Fognini lose his first-round match to a 500-ranked player, be in a bad mood throughout the match and then flip the crowd the bird upon departing the stadium... and yet the entire thing looked very innocent from court-side and everyone seemed more amused than annoyed at his antics. If you had read a detailed written description of all his action it you might have thought Fog had behaved terribly which wasn't the case in the context of the entire match. Similar thing with Nick this time.

I picked it because it was the last post you made in the thread, and also because you improperly used "you're". It doesn't really matter which post I chose to quote, because I see what you were trying to accomplish. You baited him with the "color trash" comment and brought this thread off the rails with your nonsense.

You were the first one to even mention color. Why try to sound smart or clever when you're not even making a proper argument to defend yourself?

Well, if we tennis fans get upset every time we overhear the odd f-bomb, I doubt any of us would be watching tennis for long! ;)

It become the typical Krygios behavior now! He will be suspend for longer and longer durations if he keeps this up! It is entertaining in the same fashion as watching Ille Nastase!

Kyrgios hasn’t been suspended yet. He gets a free 2R pass against wheelchaired Nishikori on Wednesday.

ATP won't be happy till the players are all homogenized and neutered just like they've made the surfaces and style of play.

Obviously nothing to happen to Kyrgios. If he gets any closer to the $5'000 fine, they'll put him up in a big *** mansion and offer him a free "egg cylinder" to stop swearing. ATP are soft as hell, absolute jokers.

I agree. I expect the fines to shrink now, regardless of what Kyrgios does.

You're not going to see Roger [Federer] or Rafa [Rafael Nadal] playing on a court like that.

Un-freakin' believable. Let's do some quick math for Nick's benefit:

Between them, Roger and Rafa have 31 majors.

Remind us again how many this dude Nick has won?

About time, I'm sick of exchange rates and fees.
I'd rather mooch currency value off economic powerhouses.

Also, I thought the Euro was already basically this anyway?

Seems more like young Hewitt in terms of attitude than young Federer.

I always thought young Federer had class, he was just a huge headcase that choked away winnable matches.
Exactly.
I suspect that other poster just doesn't like Federer and had to bring him in here.
There's like ten guys who would be ahead of young Federer in this discussion, so strange to bring him up specifically unless there's another motive to do so.
