Kyrgios want to play in double with Djokovic

Maybe "it's not even a debate" is a stretch, but...

It's not even a debate is actually the only part he got right.

He has been for quite some time. For the Djokovic ultras now citing his word reverently, we might want to recall Nick's incoherent comments about Djokovic not being a potential 'GOAT' because Novak had never beaten Nick.

That's the quality of reasoning he applies and there are numerous examples of it. He's best analogized as an online poster who enjoys taking positions he knows will stir up majority sentiments quite often regardless of the coherence of the position i.e. a contrarian.
A contrarian is defined as "a person who opposes or rejects popular opinion" and to say Nick fits this mold is a huge stretch

Someone who stirs up controversy for the sake of attention (which is what I'd say he does) is not necessarily a contrarian

Nick's comment on the Adria tour alone shows that he went with the most popular opinion that was out there at that time. I don't see him as a contrarian at all.

Nick both stirs up controversy and is a contrarian. Indeed, being a contrarian is an important part of how he stirs up controversy with his statements. I gave you an obvious example which is all the more ironic as it regarded Djokovic himself and is now conveniently forgotten.

He bashed Djokovic's Adria Tour and Zverev for not self-isolating, neither of which are contrarian

He comes up with stuff against Nadal and specially Djokovic because he doesn't like them on a personal level (stemming from Fed fanboyism); it has little to do with him being a contrarian

You mean the short bus rider who said " LeBron James is better than Michael Jordan and its not even a debate”????

yes... not a contraian at all!

He is born in 1995, he hasn't seen Jordan play, so he is entitled to his views on Lebron being better.

Who are you to question him ?

Kyrgios did have a point in what he said.

In the tennis world if a day has come that Kyrgios supports Novak ahead of Nadal and Tsitsipas then there is something wrong with the tour and they are anti Novak.

Nick showed that beneath his arrogant look he is a good hearted guy while Nadal showed that beneath his humble look he is a grudge filled guy.

Most People who are criticising Krgious in this episode are Djokovic haters or Nadal fans .

Nadal fans are criticising Krgious because Nadal's opinion on Djokovic's Visa-gate issue is diametrically opposite to that of Krgious .
If Nadal hadn't given his opinion publicly or Toni Nadal didn't give his opinion publicly , Nadal fans wouldn't join this debate much. But here they had to join the debate.

Also they are hating Krgious because he refused to join Lynch mobs who were baying for Djokovic's blood .
When an entire country , media , Government , public treated Djokovic as a Criminal/Terr@rist and wanted him inside jail , Krgious refused to join those psychotic lynch mobs .

Yes

This is how it was

Krygios both enjoys stirring up controversy and often enjoys doing so by way of making contrarian statements. There's no contradiction here.

To take solace in his judgement is a fool's errand.

There is no contradiction, but the claim that he is a contrarian is not supported by evidence

The singular example you provided is not even contrarian, since specially at the time Kyrgios said it, Djokovic being the GOAT was far from a majority opinion

Kyrgios went from a straight shooter who is unafraid to tell the truth to a "contrarian" because he refused to join in on the Djokovic lynch mob

It is supported by ample evidence and we have more examples in this thread already. Nick routinely makes claims like that and argues about them online like a certain type of TTW poster.

As for my specific example, I wasn't contending there was unanimity on the GOAT question (there probably never will be and perhaps never should be for that matter).

What I am contending is that many people believed Djokovic to be a reasonable candidate for that distinction and virtually no one believed that a relevant criterion should be how Djokovic performed in his 2 matches against Kyrgios.

Making a claim which cuts against whatever the prevailing winds may is part of what gets Kygrios out of bed in the morning.

When did Nadal say anything close to this??

"Novak is an idiot," tweeted the tennis player [...]. "What I have seen is far worse than any of my irresponsible or stupid behavior."

....Nick Kyrgios

Nick is his own person and says what he thinks. He knows what goes on tour and rather than hide everything and fall in line with the media narrative, he says it like it is and if you don’t like it, don’t like it.

He's attention seeking. Nick will say anything for attention, even if it means contradicting himself.

From the beginning of the Pandemic he's criticized Djokovic harshly. First for organizing a super-spreader event, then for not doing enough to help the needy. Kyrgios called Djokovic "a tool" in 2021 for requesting easing of quarantine restrictions. Suddenly he's on Djokovic's side.

Hollow! Just another attention seeking stunt. I understand Camp Joke is desperate so they'll take anyone.

Two of a kind! If they every got together, all hell will break out for seating wise! Match would go primetime worldwide!

“Me and Novak had some differences in the past.”

Lol like when Kryngios would attack Joker while being unprovoked nonstop through all types of social media :-D Then he has the audacity to blame the media on their one way feud

Honestly this sounds really fun, also with a lot of potential to go horribly wrong.

They could become a traditional heel duo, with Novak as the megalomaniac delusional leader, and Nick as the obviously treacherous lackey.

We need faces on the other side of the net though, not sure who'd fit the bill.
Maybe Wario and Rafa?

Kyrgios want to play in double with Djokovic

Having a hard time with the two missing "s" in this thread title... it sorta sounds like Kyrgios wants to impersonate Novak.

Kyrgios doubles is actually quite good, Djoko not so.

Nick will have to carry him.

Nick wanna-be rebel without a cause... 'cept "sticking it to the man".

Call me cynical….. How much did Novak pay Kyrgios to support him? I mean for the love of god, Kyrgios couldn’t have been more critical of Novak after Novak’s fiasco of a Adria Tournament. So, he’s got to be paid off.
